@@jarekpszuk6944 honestly the 4g69 is actually a decent sounding engine, the turbo being right next to the ports muffles the sound a lot though. The induction noise would be loud as hell if you were in front of it under load

They need to do something to kill that understeer. Maybe beefier sway bar in the rear. Softer springs up front. It looks like it’s at its handling limit out there though.

There are A LOT of highly regarded fwd track inspired cars out there. The Megane R26R is one of the most sought after track ready cars and they're fwd.
The rwd only brigade do make me laugh though 😂
P.s. have a look for 'ring mini' a Mini VAN with a non VTEC Honda D16 with no engine mods... battling with and even beating some rwd stuff around the Nordschleife. I'll say that again, it's a Mini VAN, with a used Honda 1.6 chucked in it by a bloke in his own workshop and it can go against some top end stuff...

I’m so glad seeing this video was recommended cause I got this same exact car sitting in my garage except mines a 98 Mitsubishi mirage technica. It’s a 1.8l single cam engine and it truly does miracles. Technica was sold in Puerto Rico and we brought it to the U.S

Have you seen the tyres on the mini? If he'd have been on the power much more than he was he'd have just been smoking the tyres and understeering everywhere
As marty and moog said multiple times, they have hardly any grip and loads of torque steer. More throttle would make things worse in that situation. Real life is not like fast and furious, burning tyres look impressive but it's a lot slower than keeping your foot off the throttle and maintaining traction.

Watching all your mini modifications from the UK and I'm so keen on on doing the same to my mini. Awesome track and two great cars.
A trip back in time to the all conquering 1600 BDA engined Mini built in the late 70’s by Baldwin . This engine actually used a modified 1275 gt gearbox and adapter shaft to fit the engine . Apart from a bit of tig welding on the gearbox qwrthe Cosworth Kent block drops on top of the BMC gearbox !

The angle of the steering-wheel in the mini makes me feel uncomfortable..
That was a sacrifice they had to make.. If you watch the build they (obviously) ran severely out of wiggle room. The Honda engine is both taller, wider and longer than the Siamese port putter the Mini came with.
Anders Juel Jensen all classic Mini’s have the steering wheel at an angle like that. It’s just a result of how they were originally designed and packaged, not anything to do with the engine swap.
Why would it make you feel uncomfortable? Have you got some weird steering wheel angle phobia? As said every single mini ever made is like that.

The angle is Bus N truck.
If you have ride a go kart that is too small (the old ones) then you often had almost up right steering.
There was two or three cars like this but manly you would have this angle in trucks (lorries).
Can't say it ever bothered me, but it is designed so that you can get in and out of the car. Just side your car seat forward and seem what gets In the way first.

Yeah he'd barely be in Vtec and he'd shift. I think the mini's clutch is going out, so he didn't drive it as hard as he could have.
He was short shifting every gear
He would have been slower if he revved the engine to the max because the mini is almost half the weight of a Type R so he wouldn't be able to put the power down and he would spin like crazy.
He was trying no to push his luck with all that torque steer I guess

This reminds me of all of the early 2000's racing games on PS2 and the 360. I loved building over powered minis and running them against anything in the game just to get money for my next car.

This is a great video. Just two guys having a gentlemans race. No high stakes. Just fun.
I think this is what most MCM viewers want to see - head to head laps, and more than a few. My ideal 2SEXY vs 2WISTED would have been a drawn-out track battle, an endurance race to see who would last the longest. This gives you extra time to perfect your technique and would make for some great viewing! The brake-tests etc, not so much. We wanna see these things raced hard!

I had a B16A powered Integra DA6 and keeping it in the VTEC zone was never a problem. It topped out at 185 km/h due to JDM speed limiter but redline in fifth would have seen 200 km/h

You need to do a mr2 build. Once you experience the mid engine rwd layout, you don't go back.

that i did genuinly not know, i had an old friend who had one, he said it handled like a gokart, i imagine it does. but he said it you push it to far you can't get the arse back into control.
@@kallumbmx yeah they do handle better than people think. They assume it's like a mk2. I don't think mcm have done mid rwd platform yet and there are lots of people who like it. It would be nice to see.

I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with the 3.5 V6 VTEC. At 4,000 rpm the VTEC kicks in and WOW!!! It really does feel like a turbo kicking in and sounds freaking awesome and the power is crazy! I normally don't drive it hard but when I'm feeling froggy I say out loud "VTEC!" like Moog does when it kicks in! I just can't help myself. VTEC cam profile is pretty cool and that Mini sounds sooo good!
Rev that b16 for longer and stay in Vtec. Slowed the mini down big time. Cool battle either way

This video was pretty fun. A little metal box moving like that is plenty of fun to watch. I think that you could leave to one audio channel the audio for one car (and pilot) and the another channel for the other car (and pilot)... though not so sure of what can it really feels like doing it.

Sweet to see the Mini back! Kinda wish that Moog drove it in the VTEC powerband a little more though, it sounded like he was shifting just north of engagement, which is between 4500~5200RPM, while redline is closer to 8400rpm on a Type-R engine. This would keep you in lower gear an in the powerband, allowing the car to go much faster. Were brakes or tires preventing you from using the power of the car? Or were you just taking it easy for that run?

So? Did the petroleum industry tell you that you need a turbo timer so you can buy more of their product? Keep on shaking that head
@@1gt4dude that's dumb, your turbo needs time to stop spinning and cool down when you stop, you don't really need a turbo timer, you just have to let the car sit at idle.
@@nikolabegonja5490 Without talking about extreme cases where the turbo is glowing and the oil that is no longer flowing is COKED and hardens into crud and reduces oil flow until the turbine shaft snaps or bends next time it's run (which is a thing, I'm not denying and have happened to me several times ironically on cars WITH turbo timer), The reality is not as extreme with modern turbos like Garrett with ballbearing cores, infact I've never "warmed down" a car with a Garrett or Borg Warner in some 15 years. If you ever log and monitor temperature data on a turbo car you will see that nomatter how long you "warm down" you will always get that spike on shut down where non moving air across the radiator was never going to shift all that soaked heat from the engine bay

Hi Moog, just a suggestion mate: Swap for Yoko's A048R... real track tyre. That will give you an huge advantage. And then a slightly harder suspension setup at the front so the tyre doesn't rub the wheel arches anymore. You guys doing an awesome job. Keep rockin. Cheers from WA

The B16b was built for track use in mind hence the close gear ratios and Factory LSD as compared to other b series Honda’s. You just gotta keep the revs up and gears low in turns to either stay in vtec or stay just shy of vtec. Same thing when I mess with ppl on the highways. Rolling out before vtec is useless
That's some good driving, though do you think you could stay in the lower gears longer? I don't know what rev limiter for the VTEC is, but it sounded like it had a bit to go and pretty sure a little bit of bouncing off the rev limiter isn't too bad for those Honda engines.
Moog's making me want an old simple fun car like the mini. I'm old enough to remember them and how they won rallies right and left until they started limiting the number of tires they could use (they ate tires!)
Unfortunately I lived too far away from a dealer (none in my state) and was too poor to afford one.
The torque steer in this vid wasn't that visible but in the Haltech review vid where your long friend tuning fork takes place in it (worth watching because of that ;) There was a shot where it was very evident. Hard to re-position the rack in such a confined space I presume? That V-tech kicking in sounds awfully good though. Certainly testing the limits of front wheel drive in both cases.
