I hope to see a mix between the passive and aggressive play styles. I think the ability to choose how a team wants to play can be healthiest for the game, limiting players to one specific strategy is just going to make the game less fun.

This game's new meta is actually looking very promising so far, the much higher level of Tacticoolers allows people to run in relatively safely, making things more exciting and fun for both players and viewers. I've also been seeing more variety than ever, enabling a lot of different playstyles, which is always a very good thing for a game's meta to have!

Honestly it would be cool to see both styles be useable in the Meta. It would be an interesting clash of fast pace vs careful push. It could lead to pretty interesting interactions and maybe even comps to counter each other. Then it sorta just builds from there as each side tries to adapt to the other, allowing things to constantly be fresh

I think the slow style of comp is going to be more popular for sure. The faster comps seem more map dependent to me (at least with this games current map design) so depending on the map list for a particular tournament they could be really good or just okay. The slower comps work well on pretty much any map, so I'd expect most top level teams to keep using those while some teams might also have a more aggressive secondary comp

Fantastic video. I think whats going to be interesting is the style players will choose to fend off the other form of playstyle. More aggressive comps are going to find ways to pressure up the patient comps and patient comps will find ways to stall out aggressive comps. We are in it for the long haul with the meta but I'm honestly happy about it. Meta constantly changing keeps the game and the competitive scene fresh. It's not stuck to the same weapons over and over again. Its much more enjoyable to watch as well!

The special saver on cooler is great for splashes, as I feel like splashes were forced to be too passive in the previous meta despite it being a weapon that can fight very well, just because crab was so valuable and dying with it was a huge detriment. But with cooler, it allows for the splashes to be much more aggressive without having the consequences of losing crab. We’ve never had a special more uniquely synergistic with other main and special weapons than cooler, really excited to see what teams do with it.

the 2 different ideas could be very map dependent with some wider maps with other ways in cooler can be good but on hallway maps the more slow-paced will be better i think that both can work just as well as one another and it just a matter of time before teams start learning the 2 different playstyles
on the other hand there could be another one where midlines can be good as these provide good aggression and defiance at the same time (this is just 96d compium though)

though it probably doesnt sound as good as i think, i do feel pencil has potential in zones. it can paint very well from very far (only outranged by liter) and on some maps cap zone with 1 charge. with the pain buff it can get 4 full charges with just lde, and it can do what nzap has been doing with constant cooler uptime. snipewriter has the fastes strafe speed of any charger (better than a hydra) and cheapest tap shots, so it can position aggressively much better than other anchors, so it doesnt really need to move up a ton to place cooler. Also because of its range and having cooler, snipewriter can run respawn punisher without much risk.
snipewriter is also quite good at covering teammates and holding zone as a main weapon, becuase it can fire its shots whenever it wants, enemies cant reliably know when its charging or just waiting, and they cant just wait out its duration like a splatling. you need to dedicate some resources to moving it whenever you move.

Im thinking both playstyles will have their places, namely that certain maps will favor one meta over the other. If in the mid season patch Nintendo decides to change maps again and adds more routes (however unlikely that may be) i fully expect QR comps to take over, but if not its a toss up between maps and modes.
Killing an enemy isn't as valuable if they can reingage so quickly, but if they don't have a good way to immediately reingage then that QR just means they're running into bullets even faster. Only time will tell I suppose

Machine also likely gonna just bounce back once people realize machine is still the best aoe weapon in the game and is still amazing at enabling other weapons with its damage. Honestly thinking of picking it up right now, really doubting it'll ever have an alternative at this rate. I don't think any other aoe weapon is gonna get a kit with as much synergy and power as machine's. Maybe next season they'll give some weapons bombs again and we'll see something different.

I think people are counting machine out because of the nerf, but I think it's in a healthy state right now and is not underpowered especially if you run movement speed up on some of your builds. This helps mitigate the "sluggish" feel since you're moving faster even though there's more time in between swings.
Machine's kit synergizes with it so well and it still denies space so well with its wide hitbox that I think its completely reasonable to see one on teams going forward.
The one class i do think is underpowered is brellas. I used to be a brealla main and even the new tent feels lacking. I wish we could get a damage buff to make the classic brella feel threatening and a small buff to the tent recovery time or time to open.

I think that the new meta is going to be based around the maps with ones like eeltail being more slow and patient and ones like flounder being a lot faster filled with quick respawn. Overall, I see the meta shifting towards faster gameplay, but that is my bias from a tetra die hard who loves fast paced games.

I think tri-slosher nouveau can cover both an AOE weapon and a 180 p tacticooler weapon and then you have room for a splash, ballpoint, stamper etc

I don't watch splatoon 3 pro matches a lot so take this with a grain of salt but I could see the meta going where it integrates both where it's high pressure to keep the opponent on the heals but also being patient and playing for your special

We're slowly growing into a healthier meta. We have a slow defensive comp that works really well and a fast agresive comp in the making. We just need a potential third comp, more alternative options for the existing comps and then maybe the meta would be good

I do like the direction the meta is heading in and it feels like the devs are trying to push both styles of play given how they’ve released strong standalone weapons and weapons focused around a team. It’s still to early to tell but I’m sure teams will be able to build their own comps to their liking and the meta will not be pigeonholed into s1 or s2 metas

Honestly, the meta of Splatoon 3, a game that celebrates the series by taking aspects from the first two games and combining them, having a meta that’s a war between the qrsp meta from the first game and the cautious defensive playstyle from the second is actually quite perfect.

  • @LimusTG

I do think that with the latest patch, the two big team comps (fast and slow) will swap over the coming months, and maybe even years. We've seen the slow style become dominant near the start and now we're having faster, more aggressive comps being viable. It feels like there will not be one viable comp, but several different comps, each being either more or less viable than the other, and that's cool.
Although, I don't exactly know, since I am just a salmon run player after all, so I could be talking nonsense for all I know.

I hope that both work, since having a more diverse Meta would be nice. Making one playstyle needed to even compete isnt so nice, having multiple playstyles accesible makes watching more interesting since everyone isnt doing the same thing

what im hoping for is a 3rd meta that creates a meta Rock/Paper/Scissors dynamic where each specific playstyle is strong against one and weak against another
but failing that, my guess is that Splash will still reign supreme until they fix some of the reliability issue with Blasters, though without making them overpowered

I've never really cared for meta, I always thought that if you are skilled with your weapon and you can support your team with what you have, then that works good enough. But I do hope that the meta changes, since this one has been bugging me since day 1.

I think the meta might be an in-between of the two where you use splatoon ones aggressive playstyle with powerful specials farming them like splatoon 2 while getting to mid quick and hopefully using them after key players and specails are down to get key pieces of the map - also who knows maybe it’ll be all 3 splatoon 3 only time will tell :)

I really want dapples to be one of the first hyper aggressive support weapons due to it having such a good kit and it’s weapon isn’t too terrible for that kinda of playstyle. The problem is that N-Zap exists and I don’t think any weapon contests it the aggressive support category and it’s slightly upsetting.

  • @MisterFiasco
    @MisterFiasco ปีที่แล้ว

If Tacticooler comps are the way to go, I wondered if we’ll finally see the vDapples getting some love, as Beakons are good for getting people back in the action, without needing another player who would potentially be in harms way.
Problems abound thou. First, using super jump is substantially faster, so much so you get to keep the respawn armor for a bit after you land, letting you survive any bombs or ambushes. The only way to emulate that speed with beakons would be to run nothing but sub power up.
This makes beakons redundant, which sucks because Dapples would love a proper bomb to toss to mitigate their poor range. Without a way to poke a distant enemies, they’re left with nothing more but a telegraphed approach and a weapon that is easily outranged. Neither the NZap 85 or TriSlosher Nouveau have to worry about this, and the better range on the main weapons let them farm Cooler easier and faster to boot.
So sadly, when the Dapples aren’t being outclassed by the Tetras, they’re being outclassed by everything else.

I genuinly think both could stick around in the meta, especially after the mid season patch where some of the weapons on the brink of being meta or niche could get just what they need to be used more
