      Lots of folks don't ground the automobile with the drained battery they just connect the battery like they connect the automobile with the fresh battery.

    why don't you attach the negative cable to the negative battery terminal on the dead car?

    NOW, after the negative cable is out of the way, try to crank the vehicle with the weak battery. If it cranks let it run for about 10 minutes or better yet drive it a mile or two. ONE CAUTION. When a car is running the fan blade is turning fast and it's often easy to NOT see it. Don't get your cables or hands near the fan. If the battery died because you left lights or some accessory running it will probably be OK. If not go to one of the auto stores or service station and have it checked.

    Baking Soda + water in a pitcher, stir, and pour over your DISCONNECTED battery, will remove ALL the rust and other corrosion, wipe dry, and MAKE SURE IT'S DRY BEFORE RECONNECTING!! Another helpful tip!
    ALWAYS use a permanent marker to put a + and - on the rubber grips. My fiance is greyscale color blind, and couldn't tell the difference, and the woman trying to help him didn't know what she was doing! >.<
    Dome light test is a great way to find out without blowing up your phone too! haha

    I have a doubt... After 10min should good battery car should off before starting the dead battery vehicle???
    Second doubt... After dead car battery start should i turn off good battery car n then remove cables... Or remove cables with both vehicle in starting position

    is it not risky to disconnect wile running cos if spark comes then open way for it into computer to damage it if ignition is on.There are some who claim that jumping with the engine running can lead to alternator failure very soon thereafter. I’m personally agnostic to it-- I can’t really understand why it would happen, but there seems to be some anecdotal evidence for it.when the dead cars battery is totaly flat (like under 6V standing voltage)donor running or not, and this is the time the donors cars electrical system is pushed to the max and it is not good to push the donor car to the max, this is when those anecdocal stories get their legs.
    Never lean over the battery of either car.
    Do not smoke while jumpstarting a car.
    Never jumpstart a battery if fluids are frozen. This could lead to an explosion.
    If the battery is cracked or leaking do not jumpstart the car. It could lead to an explosion.
    The Safest Way: Start the car with the fully charged battery and let it sit idling for roughly five to ten minutes to charge the dead battery. Turn off the engine remove the cables in the reverse order and be careful to not let the cables touch which can result in sparking. Attempt to start the engine of the car with the dead battery.
    The Other Way: Start the car with the fully charged battery and let is sit idling for roughly five to ten minutes to charge the dead battery. Attempt to start the car with the dead battery without shutting off the fully charged car. If the car with the dead battery refuses to start, let it sit for a few more minutes. If the car with the dead battery still will not start, very carefully readjust the red (+) positive cable to the terminal in hopes of getting a better connection. Reattempt to jumpstart the car. If the vehicle starts, remove the cables in the reverse order they were put on, being careful not to let them touch.

      I have an 04 petrol 9³ -luckily no problems so far... But my battery is like new.
      Maybe your alternator is down?

  • @wa4aos
    @wa4aos 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the cables are correct and you still get a large arc, stop and replace the battery. You could have internally shorted plates and that battery WILL NOT CHARGE. A small spark is normal since it is supplying current to the weak battery
    VERY IMPORTANT. AFTER cables are hooked wait about a minute then start the car with the good battery. Run it about 10 minutes while leaving the other cars accessories off. After 10 minutes turn off the charging car and disconnect the negative cable

    Drive a vehicle with a manual transmission. Get the car rolling, pop the clutch, and drive away.

    when removing the cables, do any of the cars have to be switched off?

    • @stevelondon3511
      @stevelondon3511 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Doesn't matter. You can turn off Good Car but don't turn off Dead Car straight away because the engine needs to run to charge up the battery.

  • @wa4aos
    @wa4aos 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would expect video like this from a manufacturer. Do what you just saw in this video and you stand a great chance of blowing the alternator in the car running. Instead, hook both the negative and positive cables to the battery. Trying to find a metal part to hook the cable too may be a challenge do to paint, dirt and oils on metal parts making them poor conductors. If you see any LARGE spark when you hook up the last cable stop and check that cables are right. and reconnect MORE NEXT POST

    it will take more then 30 minutes to charge a car battery off the engine more like 60 to 90 minutes depending on the size of the battery but 30 minutes is o k that way you know you got enought charge in the battery to get the car to start again and let the battery charge as you drive it normally

    Oh. Well ironically I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero that was dead this morning. The rescue car to jump my car just happens to be a 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible. We took the advice of turning off the car . We ended up with two dead saabs in the driveway. Luckily the sister had to go to work. She was trapped in the driveway. She had to take her 05 VW beetle off roading and off a curb. So she left and now step dad has to come jump both the cars. So rule #1 about a Saab. Dont trust em. Not reliable as shit

    • @consaka1
      @consaka1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nathan Woodard Consider it a good thing. Your situation is no reflection on Saab vehicles. You are basically blaming the Saab for having batteries that are wore out. Thats pretty lame man. Any battery that runs down so fast in the charging car is bad. Be thankful it happened in your driveway and not 40 miles from home at a park or shopping center. Oh and in the future, actually check your batteries at least once a year with a load tester. That should give you a heads up when the battery is starting to go bad.
