- The Rays have been a .500 team for most of the season, with virtually no chance of getting to the playoffs, let alone be successful in October. But, does that mean there’s no reason to watch Rays baseball? A 21-year old with a bunch of power might disagree. Junior Caminero had his breakout party in Los Angeles and Rays fans should be excited for what he can do. Yes. Junior Caminero is the main, but not only reason to watch a Rays game. Ideally, he will become the face of the franchise much like Longo was way back when and Wander could have been. Makes you wonder why they didn't bring him up a couple of weeks earlier than they did or even at the trading deadline, but at least he is here now.
Hate to belabor the point, but the offense needs to be better next season. You cannot be a playoff, let alone World Series contender when half of your lineup is hitting below .200. Catching could also use a major upgrade. I am fine with Ben Rortvedt, but as a #2 not #1 catcher. Same with shortstop because Taylor Walls is not the long term answer.
The pitching looks like it is falling back into place and will be even better with (hopefully) a healthy Shane McClanahan back next season. The bullpen also seems to be doing well with Rodriguez and Uceta supplementing Fairbanks.
Felt much the same about Randy Arozarena. Think he will be received very warmly when he returns to the Trop next season. Even the Shohei Ohtani game winning 40/40 Grand Slam did not bother me all that much. If you are going to lose a game, it might as well be because of the best player in baseball. Truthfully, what bothered me a lot more was seeing the MLB channel's wild card standings and the Rays no longer being shown on the board as one of the contenders. Ouch.😬

After just watching Armstrong give up two 2-run homers in Seattle, no.
