Lt. Falcon, Jinx, Fast Draw & Outback; Battle Armor Cobra Commander (easy to justify getting as he can be Fred VII), & the Techno-Viper. I ignore the lies presented in G. I. Joe the Movie.
@dinomonzon7493 not a fan of the movie. Got it 😅 seriously great choices. BA CC was the first one I got from the batch and I was completely blown away...moreso because it meant he was BACK !
Chuckles I definitely didn’t take seriously in ‘87 either but now he’s on of my favorites. In fact his desert version that came in the “Desert Duel” set is one of my favorite figures as well
Ha! Great video. Magnum P.I. is the whole reason I became interested and started wearing hawaiian shirts back in the day. Still do. I still love this weird character in GI Joe's ranks.
Thanks! Yup he's definitely in a style of his own :) hawaiian shirts are very common in my country but if they were I'd probably be wearing them more often than not given I live in such a beach-y country 😅
The first ten min of the James Bond movie Casino Royale (2006) with Daniel Craig is literally a Chuckles movie demo reel. There is a funny video of one of the comic creators commenting as such. Check it out.
Wow that's so long ago I don't remember 😅 but yeah I do remember enjoying Casino Royale! Can you send me the link to the video or name of channel? Thanks!
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf It was a plug, but it is a holster... Chuckles is unique because his holster is an accessory of its own. Some other Joes could stow their respective weapons on backpacks and such... So similar. Bot Cobra Commander has a holster to holster his weapon... just molded into his back. Even the New Classified retro Commander has it, but now as a separate piece that plugs into his back :D
As I said in the reasonable FB group, Jerwa helped bring the character into the spotlight first with several flashback appearances. That made fans clamor for him around the time IDW got the license.
That's cool! Curious though, was it a gift? Or did you specifically pick him out yourself and if so what made you choose him. Hope you don't mind me asking...I just think it's an interesting "first" Joe:)
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf remember as a kid we did stupid vows? (Well, I did) It was stuck in my mind, from ogling my friend's GI Joe carton, I somehow picked him out (the reason's lost on me), but I remember picking him out in SM Harrison Plaza back in the day when it costed only PhP 59! That's how old I am!
@@owensayaman7047 Maybe it was the flowers he he....you're not OLD because I bought my Joes from Nova Fontana in Goldcrest at PhP 59 too! so by your definition that would make me old too 😅 I prefer to refer to myself as a "seasoned" collector 🤣
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf this is a bit of a flex, but when I reached around 12 yrs old, my GI Joe collection numbered about 10 figures (1st year high school, first time having real 💰, my other friends have like 15, & his cousin like, 8. Suffice it to say, we had a considerable army). Only problem is, we lacked Joe vehicles (so expensive!!!),, during our playtime. So I took it upon myself to build helicopters, planes, out of cardboard boxes (I still remember passing by the market to buy old carton boxes of cigarettes, the big, sturdy ones, brown.) I fashioned out a H-1 Huey, "'Nam, Tour of Duty" was big during that time. My friend's old man, a seaman, was impressed with my handiwork, he just told me after all these years.
@owensayaman7047 that sounds amazing! I could never really buy the vehicles too with my own money. The few that I got were gifts on my birthday or Christmas. So yeah even if I didn't make my own vehicles, improvisation was key as desks became Joe headquarters and outdoor play was key! Being a kid in the 80s was the best!
See I never once thought Magnum but that makes sense. To me Chuckles was straight Miami Vice Crockett Lowlight was always my guy, by far the best backstory
Yeah as a kid I never watched Magnum PI so I never got that connection. Yes Lowlight is cool. That backstory was something else. Being lost in the woods for days is nightmare fuel for kids....but made Lowlight ultimately cooler!
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf I had to look that up. I remember Lowlight from the cartoon & the accompanying story. His drunk old man left him stranded in the junkyard at night and told him he couldn't come home till he bagged a few dozen rats It was so dark for a little kid but I loved it. Always stuck with me that trauma makes you tougher and able to deal with things better
@thegadflygang5381 yup exactly! Lowlights backstory really made an impression on me of how he conquered his fear of the dark and made it a part of his identity moving forward!
I think Chuckles was a Miami vice inspiration. Gi Joe loves that 80's cheese. 😅 boo RockBlock!, Every time I look at Terry Cruise I can't help but think Roadblock!. Imagine Terry playing a classic RoadBlock blasting big guns and rad rhymes. Yo Freaking Joe!
Seriously Chuckles' look had you stumped , but Sneak Peak didn't? A Joe running onto the battlefield with a giant freakin perscope was perfectly fine? Yeah ok
😅😅😅 yes Sneak Peaks choice of equipment was questionable. But at least he kinda looked like a soldier to my 11 year old self. Today he reminds me of one of Dark Helmet's ship crew from Spaceballs 🤣🤣🤣
Never liked Chuckles since his intro in G. I. Joe #60. He seemed more based after Hula-Hula of the 1970s Plastic Man cartoon. It doesn't help that Larry Hama wrote him as a smartmouth. Ironically, he's supposedly 'naturally likable'; yeah, right. Even in DDP's G. I. Joe: Declassified he was annoying. And in G. I. Joe Special Missions #18, he was a cold fish like Flint was in G. I. Joe #63.
Granted visually he isn't most interesting looking in the bunch, the fact that he looked silly was the reason Costa and Gage selected him for their Cobra series. Have you read that? Possibly one of the best GIjoe stories ever...IMHO of course 👍
Awww I think there was a lot to like in 87. For me the downfall started aroundn89-90. DIC took over the cartoon. AndnNinja force and all the other neon subteams took over the toyline.
Well it was the eighties...but to be fairnto GIJoe they were fairly inclusive for the time. It just made characters like Spirit, Quick Kick and my personal favorite Airborne more unique and special. And don't worry will be getting to them soon :)
Who was your favorite Joe or Cobra released in 1987? Besides Chuckles of course! 😅
Croc Master was a pretty cool character and story
@thegadflygang5381 yes he was! I don't remember his filecard backstory but I loved the way IDW reinvented him into a definitely creepier individual

Chuckles was Sonny Crockett/Thomas Magnum. And he was FANTASTIC!
Yup! The epitome of 80s coolness :)
Mike Costa, I just want to say thanks for your part. Thank you so very much.
Couldn't agree more!
Costa is the GOAT 🐐
Best GI Joe comic ever
Amen!
Right 👍
Tunnel Rat will never be forgotten.
No he won't 👍👍👍
Chuckles I definitely didn’t take seriously in ‘87 either but now he’s on of my favorites. In fact his desert version that came in the “Desert Duel” set is one of my favorite figures as well
Oh yeah I missed that one. That was I think the last version to come out in the 1/18 th scale so far. Cool version :)
Him being undercover as He-Man was an ace joke. lol!
Ha ha thanks! It's nice to know that my viewers share my humor 😅
I wish they would have made a chuckles in classified with the untucked shirt and long hair. That was such a cool looking way they drew them
Yeah I myself am not a big fan of the chunky, hulky Chuckles....hard to imagine such a big dude being an undercover agent 😅
Chuckles and Scoop are so Halliburton
Aw poor Scoop!

Awesome! BTW the first Cobra Commander figure (mail away) had a functioning holster for his pistol on his back.
Thanks! Wasn't it more of a plug in to his back? Not really a holster?
@@StoriesFromTheToyshelf It was a plug, but it is a holster... Chuckles is unique because his holster is an accessory of its own. @Sturmvapor yup that's what I meant :) Chuckles was the first to have an actual working holster accessory separate from the figure 👍
He was the first to have a removable holster
Yup! But removable holster wasn't enough to overcome the flower shirt 😅
DUDE!!! EPIC!!!!
THANKS :) 👍👍👍
That Night Force version is still my favorite.
Yes I loved it too! Made him look more military but still keeping his own sense of style with the dark floral underneath 😅
As I said in the reasonable FB group, Jerwa helped bring the character into the spotlight first with several flashback appearances. That made fans clamor for him around the time IDW got the license.
Then we have Jerwa to thank then! Like I said on a whole I quite enjoyed the Devils Due run. They knew how to craft an epic storyline :)

Sonny Crocket was the definition of COOL in the 80s 😅

😅 boo RockBlock!, Every time I look at Terry Cruise I can't help but think Roadblock!. Imagine Terry playing a classic RoadBlock blasting big guns and rad rhymes.

Thanks! I'm just retelling it though 😅
I was thoroughly entertained.

The joe with only the .45 accessory? A lot of kids I knew gave the figure a pass.

Chuckles was terrible along with a lot of the 87 line with the exception of a few . This was the beginning of the end gi joe
