Glad you had Kevin on for this one. I hope you guys do "Retaliation" too. I personally like it more, though I've come to enjoy this one more than I did the first time.
This movie had no right being almost 2 hours long. Being like 8 tho, I was the movie’s target demographic, so at the time I loved it. Also Snake Eyes looks terrifying, his costumes so bad
Can we have just Newt for the next movie that has Joseph-Gordon Levitt. Or, can we have Tony and the two girls so they can keep Tony from mentioning his cameo in Dark Knight? BTW, I like this movie
When I first saw this movie, I did not like it. Especially the Iron Man knockoff suits. But, it has grown on me. I do like the supporting cast, especially Arnold Vosloo, Christopher Eccleston, and the Baroness. And I like seeing Ray Park swing those swords around.
I was in the toy department of a K-Mart in the late 90s when I learned how to be economically responsible. A week's worth of allowance was burning a hole in my pocket and some newly acquired Aliens and Predators were waiting in my toy box. I could get a 3 3/4" GI Joe figure to take on the Xenomorph infestation in my room, or for the same price, get a seven pack (eight including a motorcycle) of The Corp figures to handle the job. Easy decision.
Great review guys; as a comment, the name of the movie armor is "Delta Six", which I think is a reference of "Gi-Joe Sigma Six" because in that cartoon they use a type of exo-suit with attachments similar to those armors.
That's an interesting thought. I've always believed that those power armor suits were introduced purely because of the video game being developed at the time. The GI Joe video game as I recall made heavy use of power armor, and the fact that they only exist in one entire scene in a 2-hour movie makes me think that someone somewhere said you need to stick these things in the movie to encourage people to buy the video game. As quickly as they are introduced and then ignored, that also smells of what kind of happens when people are forced to put crap in their movies they don't want. They make the barest of efforts and then they punt it to the Sun as soon as the studio exec turns around
While many viewers in the U.S. found it strange that G.I. Joe was international in this movie, G.I. Joe has always been that way to the rest of the world. For example, all of my toys from 82-84 have Canadian flags and some of the figures have Canadian places of birth on the file cards.
Hey Tony and Newt, I know that animated movies have done poorly in the past, but if you ever do another one again, can I suggest Treasure Planet? It had a great mix of hand drawn animation and CGI, it's in my top 3 disney movies (Hercules and Atlantis are the other two). Or if you guys ever do a movie vs. movie thing one day, maybe Treasure Planet vs. Titan A.E. ? I think it would rock!!! Titan A.E. is a little guilty pleasure of mine, and the space environment for some reason gives me Dead Space vibes. Thanks.
@@newtonwallen3210 I love Treasure Planet. Firstly, I am a sucker for taking old classic stories and rewriting them into different genres. That said, the Creator's really did their homework when they created the the setting and the in Universe logic. For example, the way ships fly space and the fact that space is filled with gas that is flammable, that is what people thought space was like around the time Treasure Island was written. I've also long held the belief that Treasure Planet was at least inspired, or perhaps some of the people who created it used to play, Dungeons & Dragons setting spelljammer. The setting has a lot of similarities to Treasure Planet even though it came out over a decade earlier, and as a fan of the setting I really enjoyed the movie on that level too. From a cinematography perspective, the film is a wonderful blend of CGI and hand-drawn animation. It's just beautiful to look at even if you don't care for the story much
My theory about Covergirl and the Wolverine, is that it's all a giant in joke at Marvel Comics. Hasbro had paid Marvel to do all the writing for Transformers and GI Joe, and Marvel agreed as long as they were allowed to do whatever they wanted in the comic books. So my idea is that when they release the tank called The Wolverine as a joke they put one of the cheesiest female characters in it Covergirl, and made the joke that basically the Wolverine is a piece of junk as a kind of in joke that the comic book Wolverine is a killing machine. Side note, but that is why the Transformers has a very different storyline in the comic books. In the movies and the cartoons they are created by the quintessons originally is material to be sold, and when they become sentient they chase them off. In the comic book timeline, they are created by Primus who is a avatar of the universe that came into being to defeat Unicron who was an avatar of chaos and destruction. Primus tricks Unicron into teleporting into a planet, trapping him in a corporeal form. Primus then reshape his body into a factory and creates the Transformers so that he will have an army with which he can destroy Unicron. Unfortunately he slips into a sleep State and the Transformers fracture into a civil war.
I'll say it,I really like the Design of Snake Eye's Suit in the This film with the Muscles being Defined and how it covers the Lips on the mask, which isnt something that you usually see on alot of Ninja stealth outfits.
Love this review. I might be one of the 100 people that actually like this movie even though the storyline doesn’t follow the cartoon & comics faithfully. Please do Retaliation & Snake Eyes Origin. Subbed to Pegwarmers too!
Looks like it's up to Tony, Kieran, and Kevin to defeat the evil forces of Crystal Baroness, Newt Commander, and Destro Justin. Hope they don't burn the Porkchop Sandwiches.
I just watched it and i have a question - why the movie doesn't use real military hummer or at least commercial H1 and instead they went with hummers H3?
I wonder what shape the GI Joe toys I buried in the yard in the 80s, are in today. Maybe I should go dig em up & see...remember going to Toy R Us & the GI Joe toy pegs were almost empty & I had all the ones up, then an employee said they just got a new shipment in, saw him open the box & 1st one he pulled out was SnakeEyes, which was really hard to find at the time.. omg 1 of the happiest moments of my life lmao!!!...had all the toys back in the day..lol...went He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe, Ninja Turtles, wrestling figures & then I grew up.

It got me liking transformers. This movie did the same with G.I. Joe. Sometimes fan complaints are UTTER crap on what they chose to harp on and what they chose to let go of.🙄
The problem with this movie was hack producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. When he bought the rights in 2003 he had no idea that Hasbro and Marvel rebooted the line in 1982, he thought GI Joe only consisted of the 12” army dolls from the 1960s. The script for the movie leaked online and all of the fans eviscerated it. Hasbro had to sit him down and explain what was happening.
I actually quite like Rise of Cobra and Retaliation, for all their campiness and JoeFastJoeFurious-level action, but the new Snake Eyes was so jaw-droppingly disrespectful to this franchise and riddled with nauseating shaky-cam that the original two flicks look like modern cinema classics...
Might be off subject, but we need a review of "the Man with two brains". Out of the Carl Reiner/Steve Martin collaborations, that was the best 1. Also Kathleen Turner was fine AF in it.
The lips looked fine on the toy (the very first Action Force figure I owned), in the comics and on the TV show. They just looked creepy on Snake Eyes in the movie. Didn't like the movie, it was dumb. This review of it was great though! Kieeeeran is cool, Tony is a very famous TH-camr and Kevin from Pegwarmers did a great job joining the Talking About Tapes format - hooray for Kevin!

I'm really surprised at the positive review, I thought this movie is awful. It's 50% flashbacks, terrible acting and lazy design work. I prefer Retaliation it seemed more GI Joe like. But neither are great.
Given how big of a wrestling fan I was, my personal gripe with this movie was that they used Sgt. Stone instead of Sgt. Slaughter during the training. Also, JGL had said on playing Commander that he was considering using a voice closer to the original to tribute Chris Latta, but when he tried he couldn't get it close enough so he went this route instead to not sully it.

I believe Flagg was the original General which the Aircraft carrier was named. Hawk was introduced in season 2 I believe.
Flagg was in just the comics.
Tony admitting to be a Power Rangers collector back in the 90’s when he must’ve been in his late 20’s/early 30’s at the time is really brave of him.
