- In this video, I will repair a 9.0L that the front crank damper came apart and rubbed through the auxiliary drive cover. It all started with an oil leak on the front of the engine. Going to haul the tractor back to the shop for surgery. At the end of this video you guys can watch me getting inducted in the WyoTech Hall of Fame and see some cool pictures of my Wyoming trip!

Nice to see intelligent, articulate, personable, and hard working young family man getting much deserved recognition! I’ve watched a number of your videos and always appreciate your knack for puzzling things out, but more impressive is the fact that there isn’t even a hint of quit in you. It is rare in a shop setting, to find an individual so willing to share knowledge with his cohorts, and use teaching minutes as they present themselves. I just hope JD appreciates what they have, as much as Wyotech does.

Congratulations on 17 years of marriage and congratulations on being honored as inductee into Wyotech Hall of Fame. I highly respect you for both those accomplishments and being a wonderful family man. I would like to suggest you might consider a GRK wood screw to use in removing those pesky seals. I got desperate trying to get one out and tried it. The screw and a flat nail pry bar and it popped right out. Just a suggestion.

Congratulations Zeth Key on your Wyo-Tech Honors. So happens I met one of your co-inductees, Randy Savlina at Wyo-Tech in 2007. He was an instructor in the frame fab shop I believe. I am from Mississippi and am a retired Diesel Instructor at a Community Collège here. We had been invited with a group and made the trip to Laramie for WT. Had a great time, met Randy and a lot of the faculty which is prolly gone by now. Have a picture of Randy standing with us in his shop, what a great great Guy. Actually drove back to WT in 2010 for a trip and visit and was able to chat with Randy for a bit again. Love your videos and your professionalism is unmatched. Crazy about Josh as well. Thanks!!

Hi Zeth, I watched your video about the spurratic wiring issue on the combine. A partially broken ground wire, will create havoc in any electrical system. You were on the Wright track considering, a ground and or neutral problem. You still have to follow fault codes. And the possibilities of issues, that cause failure codes. And you have to depend on years of knowledge and experience. When all else fails, you have to depend on technical support. What I have learned over the years of troubleshooting. Is look at the simple possibilities first. You find and fix more than you miss, way more!! Can't hit one out of the park every time. Hopefully the customer realized what you were dealing with. Just a thought, keep doing what you do. I like your style, Joe Capo

Another great video Zeth! Congratulations on your induction to the Hall of Fame. A former mechanic (Sears Automotive) and drag racing enthusiast, I enjoy all things mechanical. Still have a GM 502 ci gas motor in my garage looking for a project car (Nova?), drive a 2018 GMC All Terrain with a Duramax. Used to own a John Deere lawn tractor until we downsized our property. When he mentioned how you inspire people to become ag technicians it made me think of how you inspired me. Your attitude and passion makes me want to strive to become the best student I can be. I’m on my 2nd week working in my dealer here in Texas. I just graduated from HS and will start with the John Deere Ag Tech school in Corsicana in this coming Fall. Congrats and thanks for the constant motivation. I hope to one day reach the success level you have. Till next time

Great video, I'm glad I found your channel, it was nice hear a little more of your history. Make sure you look forward to a backup plan as you get older, as someone closer to 60 than 50 I can tell you it's a must eventually, we wear out. Your videos show me that your very good at the trade of mechanics. Watching your videos reminds me of how I did things with a Chilton manual as my only backup on things I wasn't sure about, the earlier things were just things my Dad had taught me. My first vehicle was a 56 Chevy Pickup and by the time I was 16 there wasn't anything I couldn't work on related to that truck.
Congratulations watching your videos for sometime now and you are a highly intelligent person and to refresh and to see if somebody has picked up the trade as I have retired after 45 years in the trade of heavy equipment repair. Admirable restraint again Zeth - I'd have given that errant seal a good cussing that's for sure - and I've calmed down quite a bit in me old age! You are truly Mr Cool under pressure. Congratulations on your induction, seems like a fitting reward for your study and hard work. I thought for sure you would have to remove the radiator and accessories to do that job, but it looked like plenty to take off and reinstall even without that. Even though I am retired and a Z mower and 4020 are the only JD products I work on, I find your channel to be one of the most interesting on the tube. I have picked up several useful tips on tools and tool use from you and have purchased a number of the tools that you use.

I was always taught to clean and remove as much dirt from an engine before pulling parts off, then to fill pipe openings and entries into the inner engine with clean papertowels or something to prevent accidental dirt or dust from getting into the cooling system or the inner engine

Well as always Zeth you never disappoint. Great video of the 8310R and its car crash of a front crank dampener and the fight you had with the oil-seal. Most of all I was so moved by you last part of the video and your induction into the Wyotech Hall of Fame. As you know I have watched every video and although I live thousands of miles away in Scotland and we will probably never get to meet, I have to say I felt so very proud of you for your achievements in life. You have a great family, and are one of life's true hard workers and I for one will always support people who work hard and strive to be the best they can be. Thanks Zeth.

If you encounter more challenging crank seal removals, then it may be possible to modify your install tooling to also remove as well.
Do those balancers have alignment marks between the hub and the inertia ring so you can see when they are beginning to separate?
Just wanted to add that if there's any danger of damaging the radiator during these repairs, then a small piece of plywood or cardboard can help prevent a bad day!! Saves the knuckles from the rad fins too......
