  • Hunting season is a full blown affair from the prep work to the excursion to harvesting and processing. Every year we are rewarded with the experience of hunting in Alaska's tough and vast landscape. Having the privilege to be among majestic wildlife is not something we take for granted.
    This year Arielle harvests her first ever Alaskan cow moose. We both couldn't be more appreciative for a short season and the wonderful meat and so much more this animal will provide for us.

    The amount of people who can set up well composed time lapse shots, narrate and edit a story, yet also hunt/butcher a moose is likely a pretty small group. I wish you two and your channel the best. Living in the part of the US were the low quite possibly may not have fallen below 70 in the last 5 months I had to chuckle about your 'getting hot today' regarding 70F comment.

    I'm not a vegetarian and fully understand the process. I love your respect for your hunt and the sustainability for harvesting your own meat. I still felt emotional for the moose cow. It's definitely something to reflect upon as we, socially, have become more disconnected from our food source.

    • @dospalmascb
      @dospalmascb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Extremely difficult to watch for people that don’t have any concept of where and how their food is sourced. I’m unsure as to whether I could do this, I’m a chef and have butchered various species but whether I could make the shot is a different question.

    If you have an ice fishing sled, put it in the back of the ATV. It takes up little room, and you can put stuff in it. If you harvest an animal, you can put it (or parts of it) in the sled and drag the sled. The sled has handles and attachment points that an animal does not. It keeps ground debris off the meat, and it pulls so much easier.

    Of the 5 or so 6 channels that I watch and subscribe to, and I’ve really narrowed it down, Your’s is the most authentic, and real life experience that I have enjoyed. I am honestly impressed by what you have been able to accomplish as a team in this video, and I am consistently impressed by how much you both pack into a day. My old Foxfire books, even if updated, would not hold a candle to this. I think you both should seriously think about a video series, or some type of permanent log of your accomplishments. It is truly impressive- what you both have been able to accomplish. And I mean this comment as sincere as I can offer it as a family law lawyer for over 37 years: It is a very, very rare thing to see two people in a relationship work together as cohesively and as a team as you do. This is worthy of some reflection by you both- and maybe it helps to see yourselves through the lease of the rest of the world sometimes. But you should see what we see. Congrats. Keep up the great vids. I am so much enjoying them in my retirement. Great. Good for you.

    I just watched this video again (Can't get enough of Alaska.) I'm curious. Judging from what it looks like where you live, would you be elgible for a subsistence license? I have a cousin that lives outside of Delta Junction that has a subsistence license. He utilizes a fish wheel on the Copper river. I know that with a subsistence license, it opens up a whole lot of other possibilities for harvesting game. Curious to what you think about that.

    You guys are pretty brave, and honest, to video and show this side of self sufficient living off grid. I will probably never go that far in living a self sufficient life but I admire your commitment. All the homesteading channels I watch stop short of filming the animal processing aspect of this lifestyle - there's a lot of criticism out there and they just don't want to deal with it. But it is a reality and one which you face honestly and respectfully. Good luck to you.

    Great job on the hunt and harvest. It’s a lot of work and the Ranger was helpful indeed. I have a Ranger 800 as well and one thing to be aware of is the little block relays under the hood. They can go bad or short from time to time and leave you with no lights. I’ve unplugged and tapped them before until I had a replacement to get by but now have a spare. We enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work and stay safe. - Tom “Outdoors and Country Living”.

    Well done. I know it's a huge thing being able to hunt a moose successfully. The cost of food is so much now & even more so in Alaska. Without this ability to hunt life is very different & harder. It's certainly a lot of work getting your meat this way. Not much goes to waste either. Even the chickens benefit hugely & the meat they don't eat will provide a place for maggots to hatch which will in turn provide food .

    The last time i went elk hunting i was asked to never return and simultaneously informed that i will never be invited again. Because i cried..... So now the wife goes hunting alone. I really only cried for a few minutes and, Jesus, she cries all the time, she cries watching movies, she cries reading books, she cries when she breaks a finger nail, she cries if she burns dinner, she cries when she gets a flat tire, she's always crying.... The next time she asks me to go visit her mom with her, I'm going to immediately start bawling my eyes out

    Wow Congratulations Arielle, I am so proud of you! I had no clue just how short the season is there. I read for the bull moose it's Aug.24-28th, and Sept. 8-17th. You might have more dates, but I didn't see them looking it up with Mr. Google pants! May be you could tell us sometime about the dates of the season for hunting. Also the cost just to hunt. I can't see anyone going hunting by themselves with all that work, and watching out for the wildlife while gutting it! You were so lucky you could get that close, and didn't have to carry it, or drag it. Silly me asking questions, but there is a lot you have to do just to be able to hunt, even if you don't get one. This will surely help you through the long winter months, and remembering just this day when you got it! Are you still able to go out for the Bull now? Was interesting to see just how you went through the process of gutting it and getting it home. Well done!!
