Hearts of Iron IV is probably the easiest Paradox grand strategy game for new players to get into. When you break it down, the game really isn't that difficult to explain when it comes down to it's most fundamental mechanics and gameplay. However, that's not to say that there is nothing to sink your teeth into with HoI 4... far from it.

I have over 800 hours in hoi4, but I still don't know how navy works

I play America a lot so I know a thing or two about this.
So what happens is, you put your ships in a fleet and then click on the red parts of the ocean to make them green. Also I think there’s something about ship types and screening and detection… not sure really.

i think there's a bit of misconception in the way that their kill counts have been included as those starved or dying of other similar causes over the course of their entire regime, rather than the direct kills. as well as that, these were also pumped up by the writers of the main source of the kill numbers in the black book of communism to make them look worse.
edit: the book also genuinely counts german soldiers as "victims of communism" because the writer wanted to reach the 100 million mark.

I'm mostly play as small country that rely on licensed equipment, fun times until that country that i license the equipment from got defeated leaving me in the mercy of my enemies
I know how navy works it's quite simple (I spent an entire game building up to die in one battle to UK AI)

its the only game ive put 500+ hours in that i hate. loved EUIV though.
mostly due to the factory and peace conference systems. factory snowballing makes playing as a small country pretty much impossible.
Great video mate. Would've helped me a lot if I had it back when I started playing! Personally, I learned the game by playing Sweden and turning either fascist or communist since you can't do shit with democratic Sweden. Sweden's actually decent for learning across most Paradox games (coincidence? I think NOT!)

I want to make one minor correction about paradox not so much HOI IV.
Crusader Kings is the easiest game by them no question
CK2 specifically.
In my opinion, Stellaris is easier to learn then HoI4.

Paradox AI is somehow simultaneously impressive and retarded. In my most recent democratic USA run, I’ve been waiting over 7 years to actually join WW2 since Germany got dog-piled by every minor European nation (and Italy) (and Poland) at the start and Japan went back to being isolationist.
I ended up getting bored and going to play Stellaris instead. Biggest mistake of my life.
i have around a hundred hours in stellaris and had to drop hoi 4 for being to complex, at 100 hours i feel as though i know every mechanic and important piece of information in stellaris, though i do consider ck3 to be the easiest to learn
