  • Long one this. Part 1 of the Shimano 5600 105 shifter rebuild. Part 2 will eventually come.
    Link for Part 2 for the 3 speed side • Pt.2 Shimano 105 5600 ...
I've got more bike parts than bikes! This channel gives me a reason to buy another bike part and to keep working on bikes. "Une raison d'etre" if you will.
Please suscribe if I helped you, so I can make longer videos instead of making 2 part videos.
Love bikes, components aswell as the history of cycling. Specifically 1980's and 1990's MTB's. Something about the adventure, using a 2 wheeled device that allows you to freely go where you want, was my attraction to cycling.

Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to develop such a thorough product. Daunting job, but with your simple process it makes it achievable. FYI, near the end of the rebuild you have to hold back the spring and you use an Allen key. I had a look to see what the special Shimano tool looks like - a thin metal straw. I used the inside of ball point pen, one made of metal. I cut off the ball point bit and it worked perfectly first time. Thanks again.

This is a very useful video, really saved my day. At the end, where ATBOY used the 1.5mm allen to compress the spring, I used a metal tube from a thread bobbin holder because I also tie flies for fishing. If you don't own one, it's about $3USD compared to the (unavailable) Shimano tool for $15. The metal tube was the ticket. Done on the first try.

I had a snapped gear cable stuck inside a lever and to take one apart to get it out. This vid saved my bacon - cheers

    Great video!
This saved my 105, that I almost was to scrap for a new pair. I managed to dismantle and find the hidden end of the broken wire, beeing the problem, and then reassemble and remount the leaver.

Thank you. @17:00 I can clearly see 6 lugs attached to the cable-pulling barrel. Whereas mine are all snapped off and lying loose inside the grease.
Damnit - now I need to try epoxying them back on, or replace the whole shifter.

24:25 This 'Pro Tip' saved my life today. Still took me 2hrs to get that darn spring in place. Ended up using a modified guitar pick. Your concept worked a treat. Thank you. 👍🏻

Brilliant clip. The video is so much clearer than many. Thank you! I had a snapped cable end that I managed to get out without disassembling the spring at the top but a small spring fell out of somewhere while I was washing with WD-40. I was hoping to identify it. It's not any of the parts in this video. That seems to be good news.

Thanks to this video, I managed to save my st7801........ not exactly the same but couldn't find any for the 7801 that showed these internals..... this 105 turns out to be very similar and helped me work out the main order of assembly needed - especially the springs. Now managed to get the 7801 back to working order saving more than a few pounds. Cheers 👍🫡

On a PC you can sometimes turn on CC closed captions in auto translated language.
On a PC you can find the full video speech transcribed/ scripted, then you can Google translate
On phone you can translate comments.
