Tahoe z71 5.3 aluminum block high output is where it’s at. I’d love to take an aluminum block and put a 4.8 crank and 4.8 flat top pistons with some decent ported stock heads and ported truck intake. Especially with 10:1 compression. That would be a fun little screamer. And lightweight.

These engins were in Camaros, pickup trucks, vans, U-Haul/rental trucks, station wagons, for over 25 years, & are absolutely everywhere withon the lower 48 states. You'll find these engins in any 1 of the aforementioned vehicles that was assholed, t-boned or just dumped at a junk yard, put about $2K into it, & you have an elite grade powerplant, for cheap. Same goes for the 302/351 Windsors, Coyotes, 318/360 MOPAR engins as well!
They got some 4.8 and 5.3 blocks with casting numbers on them that say "4.8/5.3/6.0" on them, and u can bore them out to a 6.0. If you bore the 5.3 out to 3.902, and add a 4inch stroke, with upgraded 6.20 inch rods, u can make a 383, so now u just turned a 5.3 into a 6.3 liter engine. Idk how well it will hold to boost, boreing the walls out that wide, but i know naturally aspirated, thing makes power
I'm waiting for my grandpa to hand me down his Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3l someday. The mileage is a bit high but it's been very well maintained. The only problems he ever had came from the cylinder control valves when the actuators got seized. When he gives me that truck I'll start working on getting that engine swapped into my Z31 300zx. T56 outta fit fine, just gotta figure out the rear-end and get a standalone. I want to keep it n/a with an upgraded cam, injectors and direct port nitrous. If I can get 350whp or more on 93-octane I'll be totally happy :)

You can only tell if it’s a 4.8 or 5.3 by dropping the oil pan and looking at the casting number on the crank. You can not tell by looking at the block. The 4.8 and 5.3 both have 4.8/5.3 on the block.
Theres a form somewhere online with a build called the heavy hitter i believe you use the crank and rods out of a 4.8 and slap them into a 6.0 block making a large displacement high rpm getting machine, it would definitly be insane to supercharge or turbocharge that combo.

And lightweight.
my 2007 chevy tahoe ltz has the 5.3L and its still a beast with over 200k miles on it and bro has the 4.8L Yukon, both great engines but damn you feel that bigger 5.3L. Running 275?55R/20 all terrain tires on them, gas is ass though of course lol
My wife’s Tahoe LT 5.3 been running since 2015 with 26’s on it,older white couple had it,it only runs on flex fuel,no 93,89,87.
You're making me want to leave them big block Chevys on the shelf! Gather up a few 5.3's while they're still cheap...✌🏾
I have a 2010 Silverado 4.8L and it’s 2024 no issues other than than replacing 3rd brake light switches small stuff , notice that the 5.3L and newer after going to a shop don’t go back to the road and sit on someone’s driveway for long time
Not only is he highly intelligent he’s a man of taste, just look at those car recommendations
My first one I bought a 6 liter and my buddy had a 4.8 crank this was years ago and he had some k1 rods and wiseco pistons so we got tanked it at the shot put new rings some summit head studs And new timing chain in it I had a ole 4150 performer intake and elderbrock elbow we had my buddy to a quick head job on it and decked the surface that way I didn’t have no problems and put a 88 milameter vs turbo on it with procharger blow off waves that was back in 2013 maybe and I traded it off in 2016 and built a good 408 with forged interals bjt that summbitch is still going honestly now I have a dart block 427 with twins forced inductions all I’m saying if you get into this stuff it’s addictive and you may stay broke.
My modded 350 small block: allow me to introduce myself
Love my 4.8 got a Holley hi ram 105 mm and that thing sifts at 8k just Krazy 🔥
Dude, you blew up like my toilet bowl after taco tuesday
I love the 5.3
I'm rocking a 4.8 456 gears with long tube headers and btr stage 4 cam 3 inch exhaust no cats .
When you're busted out the Chevy LUV 😁 I had a friend that built the Lil Datsun he had to put couple inches body lift on it for the fit under there with a 350 he called it his dog hunting truck it was a fun ride.
The absolute biggest bang for one’s buck!!!!!
Lol.
Great info keep it up!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!
Love the longer videos brother
I had a 5.3 and it run like a beast with bad head gaskets
Thanks for making this video I'm now going to look for a 5.3 to purchase to put in my Chevy S10
Your a engine genius my guy salute respectfully 👍
This guy needs to do a podcast !
My 5.3 finally gave out on me at 272,000 miles...not bad
Rebuild it take better care of it.
4.8 LS turns 12,000 rpms!! Music to my ears!!🚘😡💪
Had 320,000 miles on my 5.3 and I was making around 650 on it man that suv was fun too bad it got totaled during the winter
Pull the engine
Boi talk yo ish! Love this channel
This man just literally called my entire recipe in my g body minus the turbo
Hello,
I have yukon 5.3 v8 2008 with 4L60E transmission, and DOD DELETED and I will add in my yukon:
1-long tube HEADERS (Speed engineer)
2-cold air intake(volant)
3-full system exhaust with Y pipe
The qustaion Is which cam should I buy to make more hp and tq:
1-BTR GEN III & IV LS TRUCK NORRIS CAM
Or
2-BTR GEN III & IV LS TRUCK NORRIS NSR CAM
Another qustaion do I have buy valve springs and pushrods?
Thanks a lot and you are helping the people who want to get more hp and tq in thiers cars
my first car ever was a gmc yukon with a 4.8 and man i miss that sucker so much
My great uncle got a Tahoe 4.8 1999 100k miles
Thanks for video definitely got some ideas about my 5.3
I am not sure why the algorithm suggested this man but let me tell you. I am ready for a GM motor in something so i can beef it because of this man!
I had a 5.3 in my XUV. Loved it.
I wish you were my high school shop teacher.
Im building a 240sx with a 5.3 and yes im going to boost it as soon as i can get the car running first
I remember when my mom gave me her 05 suburban aw man that truck loved it
I truly luv your knowledge of everything 🚗 s
I have a 01 suburban with a 5.3 I love it
Bro please use my 2002 Chevy Silverado 4.8 , as your project or test video 🙏
You can only tell if it’s a 4.8 or 5.3 by dropping the oil pan and looking at the casting number on the crank. You can not tell by looking at the block. The 4.8 and 5.3 both have 4.8/5.3 on the block.
Theres a form somewhere online with a build called the heavy hitter i believe you use the crank and rods out of a 4.8 and slap them into a 6.0 block making a large displacement high rpm getting machine, it would definitly be insane to supercharge or turbocharge that combo.
I'm trying to fit that engine in a Datsun Rl 411 sss blue bird as we speak ,got to love these engines
Got the 5.3 at 300k still running great. Gonna do an upgrade build come summer
I’m a Ford guy and I respect the simplicity and cheapness of building these engines but don’t let ‘em pull up on a boosted coyote
Lmao yea right everyone knows ford engines can’t handle decent boost😂
Coyote is one of the most overhyped engines there is expensive ass Ford nonsense. I can build three Chevys for the price of one coyote. Not to mention the coyote motor sound like shit. Ford really screwed up when they stopped making the old Windsor small block.
@@zackypoobaby whatever ford engine you’re talking about isn’t the coyote lol I’ve seen stocks motors run 15 psi
@@kskip4242 like I said they’re expensive but can still out perform an LS with no internal work.
@@trimflex9554 I mean if you like the engines that make s*** for low end torque I guess coyotes your motor lol.
I had a 5.3 in my Tahoe LS
That thing would run for an SUV!!
best explanation of this subject ,,,,
I would still rebuild it with forge internals.
I love my 5.3 basic but efficient power plants
Hell yeah just bought me an 06 5.3 silverado with 112k miles might boost it in the future
I have a 79 camaro with a 5.3 mild build just a 230/238 cam kit, best stock flowing heads ,headers, cold air intake and a 93 tune ...my nephews friend don't believe I can smoke his 2022 stock scat pack on the 1/4 mile run after that they catch up on the long run lil by lil they start to catch up but I get left on the their fender ...on a 40 roll
I’m gonna have to subscribe I don’t wanna switch to the 6.0 I like the way my straight pipe 5.3 sounds in my Z 71.. it sounds as smooth as a 302 with Flowmaster. I don’t want to get rid of that sound but my motor is about done I got the GM tick and a head gasket problem but it’s a project truck hopefully keep making videos to help me rebuild that 5.3 💪🏽
