Stacy and I are sitting on the couch watching this. It’s great to see you guys!! Love the Fugitive. At that point in time, Harrison Ford was my all time favorite actor, and even today, this may be my all time favorite Ford film. Frantic is another contender.

Gerard is unequivocally the antagonist, a compelling antagonist. The storyline with the one-armed man & Nichols is the McGuffin to set up the core of the movie, which is Gerard & his team chasing down Kimble. Interesting that by the end of the movie Gerard has moved to almost filling a protagonist role, as he turns into Kimble's protector against trigger happy cops, who have Kimble in their sights and not necessarily in a strictly metaphorical sense.
What I like about the movie is that Kimble & Gerard are flip sides of the same coin. They are matched in intelligence, in drive, in persistence. Throughout the film, Kimble is escaping by the skin of his teeth, because Gerard is forever hot on his heels.
I love TLJ's performance. He's a powerhouse. The movie needed it, otherwise Ford's easy charisma would have overwhelmed the Gerard role. Yet I think Ford deserves more credit for his performance than he received. I was watching the film recently, and, while I loved the big set pieces at the dam & the court house, in which Ford was excellent, I was struck by the scene of Ford getting on the bus that is taking him to prison. It's a low key scene at the outset of just Ford taking a seat, but he makes us believe Kimble is scared out of his wits. We believe he is afraid of the other convicts, what prison life will likely hold for him, while confronting the harsh reality of a death sentence hanging over his head.
Sorry, I kind of ran on about this. If you had not already guessed, The Fugitive is one of my favourite movies

Great points! Totally agree about the bus scene. I really noticed it too on my most recent rewatch.
