love that the professor's mom is making a cameo.
One of my earliest memories regarding this ride was when I was very young and my dad took me and my older brothers, it started pouring so hard they had to shut down the ride and said it wouldn’t open for at least another half hour; everyone else left the queue entirely and found somewhere else but my dad decided to stay and wait it out. The teenager at the station got to talking and actually pulled out some cornhole boards and we spent the next hour going hard at cornhole. Eventually when the rain stopped and the ride opened up, we got first dibs, and we actually went a second time in the front row before everyone realized it was open again and flooded to the queue. It’s one of my favorite memories of my dad and I.
That’s an amazing memory
Missed one of the most important cons. Universal removed the floating Mickey hat from the ruined boat.
Ah shit, guilty
They should add that cameo to the Jurassic River Adventure
I remember the first time I ever went on the original Jurassic Park ride! Hearing the monologue and then going through the doors for the first time with the theme song playing in the back is a moment that I will never forget! Got goosebumps seeing the clip
i cried twice when i went on the Jurassic Park ride in florida. First in awe when the gates opened with the soundtrack playing, and later after the drop in absolute fear
The better Jurassic World ride is in Universal Beijing
Is Jurassic World river ride better than the Jurassic Park river ride?
This podcast is like a big hug ahaha. So unique but so interesting
Back when arcades were a thing there was a Jurassic Park game that was so intense and amazing, I would buy it today.
Iconic game vehicle, sitting in that jeep was a trip
Arcades are totally still a thing and you can play that at a ton of places?
Unfortunately, there aren't many arcades left in small towns, only in more populated places. @@rythaguy1893
Thanks for this comment! You brought back memories I forgot I had.
@@rythaguy1893I don't think you're talking about the same Jurassic Park arcade game.
Ryan's reaction when Byron placed Jurassic World over Lost World lmfao
Honestly I had the same reaction. 😆
It's nice that they invited the professors mom for this episode!
I’m so excited for this one because it’s combined two of favourite things from when I was a kid!
I'm curious to hear their takes on old extinct top-tier attractions on the podcast. I hope they cover those too, because there are plenty.
Oh we’ll definitely be doing that
@@watcherpodcasts That's interesting. That's very interesting.
This podcast combines two of my favorite comfort things: Ryan's Ghost Files narration voice talking about theme park rides 😍
Living vicariously through you guys and the TH-cam videos for every ride you mention in these podcasts. Can’t do rides anymore (I’m housebound) but love watching you deep dive on them
i love this podcast so far it’s genuinely so fun to talk about rides and amusement parks it really makes me wanna take a trip out west and go to universal studios
I couldn't wait for that music to stop
LOVE THIS POD
I remember the first time I round JP River Adventure in Florida and hearing the opening dialogue, seeing the gates and watching them open ad the music played. I was instantly a little kid again. But I also remember riding the river rapids version that they have at Universal Studioes in Singapore and that one is such a different and unique experience.
If it doesn't have Jeff Goldbloom in it why even bother
I haven’t been on the Jurassic World ride in Universal Hollywood but I have been on River Adventure in Universal Orlando and I absolutely love it because of how long the ride is! And I am happy they went with a boat ride versus the jeep ride concept. Overall, great episode I’m super excited for the future of this podcast!
As someone that also grew up in SoCal, has a love for themeparks, and has worked at Disneyland in the past, I am so happy you guys made this podcast
Patrick Warburtons performance in Soarin >>>>every other celebrity in theme park rides
The goat
I had the reverse experience of Jurassic park as my parents took me on the ride at 7 BEFORE I’d ever seen the movie - I was lured on by being told it was a gentle water ride with some nice dinosaurs and that is why I now have trust issues
never thought i'd be interested in amusement park rides but dang this podcast is my new favorite thing
I remember when I saw the original Jurassic Park. It was a full year after initial release, and it was STILL playing in the theater. Very few movies have that longevity in theater.
i really hope this podcast gets well received i missed the sad pod and this fills the void
I went on the Jurassic World ride for the first time ever this year during Halloween Horror Nights so it had no line - we just walked right on. The only thing I knew about the ride was it had a big drop. So when we started to climb the hill in the tunnel my friend kept yelling that this was the big drop and to get ready lol. Overall, I was blown away by the ride because I didn’t think Universal had the space for a large scale ride with practice effects like that! When the doors opened on the Mosasaurs tank I was blown away by the shear size of just that one showroom! I too as an adult was scared by the dinos on this ride - would love to ride it again!
I've only been on the Orlando version, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. But it was worth it just for the ride photo where my husband had a look of absolute terror on his face because he had no idea the drop was going to be that big. Worth the whole trip!
I feel like they may need to raise the world class bar to something like 8 or 9 out of 10 with 6 or 7 being the debate region otherwise I feel like so many attractions are going to be considered world class when they probably shouldn't be.
I think Ryan was a bit hard on the Mosasaurus scene. I'll be the first one to criticize Universal for relying on screens, but the size and clarity of this scene combined with the practical water effects make it pretty impressive, and probably the only way to get a great view on this underwater creature.
I don't know why I have a genuine phobia of raptors. Can't deal with them at all. I wanted to go on the ride so bad but my gran knew I'd launch myself out 😅 i can't even look at the mtg cards with raptors on without getting spooked. It speaks volumes that something that makes me want to run for my life is also done so well and so beautifully that I love it regardless.
When I was 12 I watched a vid of someone exploring the abandoned Triceratops Encounter show at Universal Studios Florida. Ever since I've had a phobia of triceratop animatronics, which is such a silly & specific fear. But God the adrenaline that rushes thru me when I see one is so unpleasant lol.
I love this amusement park series. Hopefully they talk about the food too
I never got to go on the Jurassic Park ride from Hollywood. I have been to the one in Orlando and I love it so much that I go on it every time I'm at the Island of Adventure Park
After riding Jurassic World Adventure in Universal Studios Beijing, all other Jurassic Park/World rides feel so far behind!
I know this is a new podcast but I'm kind of stunned there isn't a sponsor or three, this is good stuff!
I remember as a kid, I went on it in Florida and they had a live actor act as our tour guide. Things started going wrong, which as a kid I had no idea was fake, and the tour guide brought us to an area where we "weren't supposed to be", got off to check a broken gate or something and then got killed by some tiny dinosaurs! The boat drifted on and we entered the inside area and the big t-rex moment! I was bummed when I rode it as an adult in Hollywood they had no more live tour guides, but still fun overall, and fond memories of the ride as a kid!
To be honest, I’m not a massive JP franchise fan (I’ve only seen the original movie and only once), and I had a great time listening to this episode! I’ve loved the ride at US Hollywood for a long time, and I also miss the original version quite a bit. I learned a lot of new things about the ride thanks to this episode!
I rocked up to Universal Studios on a Monday afternoon in October. Can confirm, I walked right onto Jurassic World
I enjoy both the original and the reskin as a ride considering they’re SO similar, it’s a literal reskin (in that it’s still the thrilling boat ride with a drop, not in that it’s low effort). But nothing’s gonna beat those 90s masterpiece vibes of the original. The preshow, the music, all of it, just great.
My daughters and I rode it for the first time last year, it was an amazing experience and my 7 yr old was screaming her head off 🤣 it was a beautiful ode to when I first rode the original ride 🥳
I saw Ordinary Adventure’s vlog when they went to Shanghai Universal and their Jurassic ride is basically as what Byron just described!
I love this podcast so far! I love the tests at the end. It’s all things I’ve observed as a fellow theme park head ❤
Getting the history of these rides might be my favorite part of this podcast.
i am not a theme park person but i absolutely adore tuning in to this show! yall make it approachable for folks like me and i really appreciate that, so…. thank you‼️
Surprised you guys didn’t talk about the rumor going around that before the re-theme Jurassic park ride the idea for a new re-theme was a celebration of the jurassic park films (my guess all three jp films in one ride) but then jw came out and destroyed expectations and was later changed to a Jurassic world themed ride instead (again a rumor, I heard this personally was from a Jurassic park or amusement park podcast but can’t recall witch one came first ;-; )
18:20 the Orlando version has extra jets that create bigger splash at the end, the Hollywood version doesn’t use them anymore because (I think) the meet and greet for Blue would be right in the line of fire and they don’t want the queue/dino to get soaked.
Last year me and my friends unfortunately chose to go to Universal on Dec. 30 and we had the 3hr wait time for Jurassic World. It was at the end of the day (we also rode only a total of 3 attractions that day, all with close to 3 hour waits), our backs were dead and we saw the queue video loop so many times.... Needless to say I wasn't too awestruck by the ride. (I have been on Jurassic Park before and I was pretty thrilled the first time. I do also remember later in the years right before the reskin the Trex animatronic not working but it was still fun to ride)
Jurassic park in islands of adventure was my first thrill ride. I was about 4 years old and it scared the absolute hell out of me. I loved Jurassic park so much, but it scared me so bad. I wanted to ride it more, but was so scared til I was older. It was closed a lot after 2013. So finally last year I was able to go to universal Hollywood, and going on this ride got me so choked up because it was such an amazing updated version of my very first thrill ride.
Love this new pod. The music at the beginning was rough to get through though; maybe too loud over the voices.
I think, if I had to act for a theme park attraction, I'm aiming high- Patrick Warburton level.
I wonder if the hosts purposely coordinated their outfits. Ngl, its aesthetically pleasing
I loved the original Jurassic park ride so much!! My poor parents were dragged back to that line on repeat hahaha would love to go on the current version. But nothing will take away the classic grandeur of the original. That drop under the T. rex was incredible and terrifying
I was actually finally able to get out to USH this past week and this was the big ride I wanted to check out (aside from HHN). I hate water rides and have no desire to ride River Adventure here in Orlando, but I could ride Jurassic World multiple times. I loved it!
On another note, so excited for this series as I’ve been (and still do) working in the theme park industry for 7 years now.
Lost world is criminally underrated
I hope you get the chance to visit other amusement parks across the country.
Us too!
I’ve only been to the Orlando park once in 2011 and I’m so happy that I got to go on the old version of this ride. It was my favorite ride besides Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The drop was a huge surprise to me and it was so thrilling! The T-Rex was so scary and immediately after you see it your stomach would drop as you start the plunge. Love this, I hope to make it back to go on the new version!
I distinctly remember my first time on this ride because it WAS one of those winter days and I got absolutely soaked after my friends convinced me it was a little spit of water at the drop. I had to buy a t-shirt because I was freezing lmao
Can’t wait for the florida trip
It's ok, Byron, I recognized the Nedry scream immediately. Even whispered, "Dennis" before Ryan had the gall to ask questions about it 😂😂
I went to the Jurassic Park ride in 2008, you guys talk about malfunctioning, but I remember everything working, I remember the long wait, then being scared since we were tourists and I really wanted to go on this ride, we only had one day and its one of my most favorite memories today ✨✨✨
Love the Puppet History crossover lol
I would give ANYTHING to see yall do an episode on the ET ride, once at USH but now only in USO
ET was one of my favorite rides I went on at USO. It just has so much charm and a lot of history. I really hope they don’t take it down anytime soon.
I REALLY love this podcast. It's the only one like it that I've ever seen and I look forward to it releasing.
I’ve only ever been on the Islands of Adventure version but it was always one of my favorites. Great podcast! I really like the format and the conversation is so engaging.
Crazy how different the ride opinion for this one is depending on the studio you’re at. Me personally, where UO is my home park, I would not wait 60 minutes for our Jurassic park. These water rides are so awesome but man, those animatronics show their age and fast. Kudos to the power of JP, though!
The thumbnails for this series really do not do it justice. I clicked to watch expecting in person park footage but was PLEASANTLY surprised to see two people just having a discussion about their shared interest
Great episode, but I have to disagree with what you said about actors sleepwalking through their theme park performances. The one exception is Brendan Frasier in Revenge of the Mummy. That pre-show and ride queue slaps (if you haven't seen it, look on youtube) and Brendan is a damn treasure.
Growing up with Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure, I had a glut of excellent rides. I love the Jurassic Park ride in Orlando. Now that I'm in California, I'll have to check out Universal Hollywood. This episode has piqued my interest!
best pod ever
I 1000% agree with yall's takes on the old JP ride vs the new JW updates. Especially that intro scene, the big screen with the water dino.
Thoroughly enjoying these!
ryan: i do think that ride in itself pushed theme park tech forward
me: idk but is jurassic world not an extension of--
ryan: and i guess jurassic world in that sense is an extension of that ride
love this podcast lmao didnt realise how strongly i felt about themepark rides until this 😶🌫
This may be premature but I petition for fans of this podcast to be called Fyackers
The dinosaur with the long neck on the right shot a big water wad directly into my throat during my last ride
We just came back from a trip to Cali a few days ago and visited Universal Hollywood for the first time and Jurassic World was on our to do list. I was one of those people bouncing up and down after the ride, just because that Indominus Rex animatronic is truly a gorgeous sight, I couldn't stop marveling about it!! But I definitely agree that without it, the ride itself would've been a little lackluster. Anyways, loving this podcast so far, looking forward to future episodes!
This podcast is everything I didn’t know I needed
Hi boys, listening in again 😃. I need to get the kids out to the CA parks someday.
You should get Jenny Nicholson on as a guest! She’s probably the only person that could beat you in theme park fanaticism and it would be super cool to get both your takes
Have you guys ever been to Alton Towers in the UK? I can watch endless Theme park history videos on those rides. Plus it's only an hour away from me
Fun quirky fact , this ride has the biggest baseball hat graveyard, many have lost their baseball caps, I lost mine😂
This podcast idea is great
I would love you guys to cover by-gone classics like the dinosaur ride at Knotts... the Alien ride at magic kingdom... there were some real bangers that are deeply missed.
I guess Splash Mountain now enters the category as well.
i absolutely love this podcast!! keep it up!
I think the main reason is that it's much easier to maintain the screens. It must've been super difficult to upkeep the giant Ultrasaur animatronics that are outdoors and sitting in water. I miss them though.
I’m loving the podcast but it’s not good for me, now I’ll just be talking myself out of buying amusement park tickets weekly 😂
Love the podcast! Keep it up, any excuse to listen to theme park related content 😂
I soooo wanna go and see this one
I didn't realize how into amusement park rides I was until this podcast.
This ride technically is unfinished, it was meant to have a whole live section comparable to the revenge of the mummy fake out ending that got cut
Jurassic Park the Ride is fantastic, however Universal wasn't maintaining it and the company that made and maintained the dinosaurs went under years ago. It really looked its age and ran poorly.
Jurassic World the Ride, if maintained properly, could be a fitting replacement. I rode it before and after the Indominus Rex update, and it's now so much better. The animatronics are fantastic but the Mosa screen pit is already aging poorly.
If you do want to talk about a world class and perfect Jurassic ride, we need to mention the Beijing ride with the Indominus Rex chase and Tyrannosaur fight.
Hey that's my ride (I'm a ride operator for Jurassic World the ride)
I just rode this a couple weeks ago at horror nights and the indominous at the last scene wasnt working so it was just a giant dinosaur at the end of the ride that didnt move :/
Also i definitely think theyre still turning the splash down at night/when its not summer cause none of us got very wet
The water dino is a Hadrosaur. The area is Hadrosaur Cove.
do you (or will you maybe?) include plain ol rollercoasters in this realm? i notice that the way coaster nerds sort of "rank" or "grade" coasters is kind of different to yours!! im not really one myself but i used to work at an amusement park so a lot of my coworkers were :)
For Jurassic Park the water cannons would be turned on. Water levels are constantly regulated and never change within the seasons. The water cannons are inoperable since they're next to Raptor encounter and they will get the expensive raptor puppet wet.
Hate that so much “technical work” is going into screens and visuals rather than physical set pieces. What made the magic of these parks was physically feeling as if you are there, in the film, rather than watching it through a screen.
I love the singapore USS water ride better then the US one as you will never know how wet you will get in the ride.
Oh Ryan... It's Brachiosaur 😮💨
Ryan- I know it’s not a ride, but I’m dying to know your opinion of your experience at starcruiser ❤
What would be a good B mode for the ride? Some other dinosaurs talking to Blue instead of the Indominus Rex? Or an entirely different scene, so fantastic that people don't know it's a B mode and assume the ride has multiple possible endings or whatever?
I love to see Mom in there.
I would have failed the Simpson test on this one. Universal has shown no interest in holding on to old attractions as evidence to USF only having 1 opening attraction left. They probably would have replaced ET by now but supposedly they would need permission from Spielberg to replace it.
