Peter Alliss is that VERY VERY rare commentator.....He can provide "Color", main commentating AND analysis.....Plus he knows when to SHUT UP...and let the moment exude its power!!
He was also a VERY GOOD golfer before his putting got the better of him.
He glossed over his playing career:
He was a multiple winner on what is now known as the European Tour
He finished Top 10 ..5x in the British Open....best finish 4th
He played in 8 Ryder Cups with a 43% winning record

    My absolute favourite golf commentator.
I would watch every single minute of The Open Championship that was available to be watched live. He is the king of understatement and yet he can still paint a nuance.
His greatest trait was that he knew when to shut up and let the moment speak for itself!
I never missed a Pro Celebrity Golf Show shown on Australian TV.
Aliss is also a very good teacher and analyst.

One mark of his true class and wonderful sense of humour is that after a playing career blighted by a severe dose of the yips his personalised number plate was '3 Put.'
