    Actually hunters DO NOT have to use the maximum ticket value in their moves. "After spending a ticket token, the hunter can move to a city that
    is UP TO a number of railways away from their current location
    equal to the number on the spent ticket token".

    I bought this and played it tonight. I got seriously owned took 10 damage from Gadolming and Seward in Vienna and then got away and was 1 point away and was hiding in Colonge when Gadolming played a 3 move train ticket and just happened to end up in my town and Van Helsing and Mina then played a chartered carriage to join him. I mesmerized Mina and went to fang her buy she blocked it with Garlic and I went out like a punk. I was 12/13 influence so if Fangs had worked Drac would have won.

    Besides the fact that you are brilliant and charming at explaining the game, thank you so much for your preperation. One might assume that for a person uploading such content and specializing in it this is the very basic thing to do but so many others don't do it. They often don't even shuffle their decks and be like "oops well that's unfortunate now, I should have taken a look at it first" whereas you precisely put everything according to your tutorial. Much appreciated!

    A few months ago my city library had a few games on display and this one caught my eye. I've never been into board games ever. Forgive me but I thought of them as a bit nerdy and rolling dice to fight things just seemed dull. So I was in the library again at the weekend, and it turns out you can hire them for free (I thought you could just play them on special games events). Some arsehole has stolen this game but I hired Letters from Whitechapel for the family and we're hooked. Question. Regarding Consecrated ground. In the rule book, it says "When using "Wolf Form," Dracula cannot choose a location that would require using roads that connect to a city with either a consecrated ground token or a heavenly host token." Does that mean that:
    A. I can't utilize wolf form to pass through a city with holy ground and all cities connected to it?
    B. I can't utilize wolf form to pass through a city with holy ground and only that city itself?

    -event cards you must read the top line, outloud to everyone when you get it.
    -first location card of Dracula at the start of the game does NOT get an encounter card.
    -recommend possibly only allowing Dracula to play power cards once as they can be overpowering if you know how to play them to their fullest. (it is possible to have Dracula stay in 2 spots or 3 spots continual and win the game in 10 days)
    -another possible recommend if not the above is to only allow 2 power cards to be in path

      @WeAreSoPredictable 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      _"the handsize number is 4 on all hunter cards... missprint*?"_
      Yes, it was a misprint. From what retailers have told me, some copies were pushed out by retailers anyway (despite being aware of the misprint, some retailers just wanted cash from the in-demand 4th edition), but there was a recall prior to the amended 4th edition being re-sent to retailers. So anybody buying the game now should get the correct cards (hand size of 3 for Mina, Van Helsing and Godalming, but 4 for Dracula and Dr Seward).

    I've played this game with my friends two times already and there are things we dont understand, so I would be glad if someone explained that to me - what happens with items cards when I used them during fight? A knife for example. I hit Dracula with knife and then the card goes back to items deck or to my hand? We couldnt find it in the instruction book. Second thing - every hunter has his own special ability, that can be used one time or many times? If you can use it multiple times, then the lady hunters ability is truly overpowered.

    However, within my multiple searches for board game reviews, I found a couple of articles describing JAWS as one of the best movie-based titles ever released ...
    I recently purchased a copy of JAWS: The Board Game and the gameplay is similar to Fury of Dracula in that it is a strategic Cat vs. Mouse battle and that each hunter/character has a specific set of skills.
    It would be GREAT if you lads could post a JAWS video review.

      Very well, because one player controls all hunters. And in a game with 5 players, 4 players control 4 hunters but they all usually agree on a general strategy... so again, it is uniform. Of course it is more fun with more people (cracking jokes, someone deciding to go Leroy Jenkins-style etc.), but as far as mechanic goes, it does not matter - it is pretty much the same with 2 and with 5 players.

    could you or anybody active here please explain me two things that are neither covered in the manual nor any tutorial video i’ve watched so far, thx in advance!
    1. how are event cards used EXACTLY
    - yes they sometimes say “immediately” that is clear. BUT they sometimes say “use as an action...” or they just say “use at dawn” (without the “action”)... what does that mean? the player rules always say that “special” (use an event card) is equal to performing an action, meaning also nothing else can be done at this day or night... i am absolutely confused! how does it work? do i always have to use an action to play an event? or just when the card says so? what about the other cards... when can i play them? can i play them also when it’s somebody else’s turn? how many can i play if they are not bound to actions? can i instantly play all 3 cards i have??
    2. how exactly does the situation continue after a combat where nobody dies and dracula didn’t excape? meaning: dracula played 6 combat cards and it is just over...
    - the rules state everybody just stays where they are and that’s it. that’s nice and so but shortly after comes the next dawn or dusk, right? that will automatically trigger the next battle, because you have to battle, right? this seems a bit like an endless loop... or at least a stupid situation where you have to fight until somebody dies, right?
    thx for the help, guys!

    • @WeAreSoPredictable
      @WeAreSoPredictable 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1:
      Immediately means play it when you draw it.
      At dawn/dusk means play it, without restrictions or use of an action, at dawn/dusk.
      As an action means as an action _instead of_ moving, supplying, searching, obtaining tickets, etc, *on your turn.*
      2:
      If the first battle is at _dawn_ (at the end of Dracula's turn, before hunters get their turns, so the hunter(s) must have already been there) then it continues until it ends, and Dracula and the hunter(s) remain in that city. Then the hunters will get to have their day action, after which it becomes _dusk_ before the hunters get their night action. At _dusk_ a combat occurs once more, since _"If a hunter is on the same city as Dracula at dawn or dusk"_ (p.12 of the rules) is fulfilled, with the difference being that Dracula's _night time_ effects are active (e.g., _Escape As Bat_ now doesn't just end the combat, it actually lets Dracula flee to another city location). After this battle, the hunter(s) have their night action.
      If the first battle was at _dusk_ (at the end of the hunters' day action, but before their night action) then it would play out just like the second/dusk battle in the first case, with Dracula being able to flee to another location with _Escape As Bat_ or, at the end of the battle, Dracula could just move away as his normal Dracula phase action.
      In other words, if Dracula moves to a hunter to battle them, he's stuck there for bot the _dawn_ and _dusk_ battles with them, but if the hunters move to Dracula to battle him, Dracula is only pinned down for _one battle_ if unless he's (for some reason) keen on trying to stick around for another day. So there's no endless loop, really; just 1 or 2 battles before Dracula can just move away to a new city, or use Escape As Bat. The only way it's endless is if there are hunters waiting in potential escape-route cities, in which case the hunters did a great job and Dracula will have to fight them many times.

      WeAreSoPredictable thank you very much for this great and detailled explanation! it’s really good! - the “endless loop” in the battle question was a bit over the top and basically i thought it to be like you explained... i just thought it seemed stupid. - still think it is. i somehow can’t get around the idea that combat is mandatory! i think the game would work mucch better is both dracula and the hunter(s) can choose to start a combat.
      the “when to play an event card” question became clear to us after a few rounds of playing, and we found some clues in the manual. still, it is not explained well and confusing. so thx a lot for your explanation there as well.
      stuff like this would be easy to avoid by for example using different colors on event cards and then explaining that this color you can only play as an action therefore giving up any other action, and this one you always play, maybe even when it is somebody else’s turn??
      since we ar e talking already...
      i found one more question:
      how does the escape as mist works?
      again also there seem to be missing sentences in the manual...
      - escape as bat is clear: when successful; move to a location up to 2 spaces away...
      but what with the mist? there is no word on how far away you can move as mist after escaping combat... the card says “not so far” or something. so is it just one city away? :)
      thx a lot

      @@seraphimipx2611 All good. Yes, the game's rules are almost all clearly explained, but not actually in the same place, in a logical manner, so it can require some deep delving and slogging through the entire section of a topic just to find that one thing you were looking for. So yeah, the rule books aren't brilliant, but they're at least fairly comprehensive.
      Escape As Mist is just a way to end the battle without actually fleeing to another location, so it ends the combat much like how combat ends after Dracula has played his sixth combat card (I actually don't understand their logic for this; surely combat should continue until either part is defeated or flees?).
      And I agree that the event cards should be colour coded or somehow make it clear when and how they activate. The allies should also include some sort of artwork I think, to signify who they are, and to make it clear to newer players just how important the card is.
      Glad I could help. I just hope I got it 100% right. :)

    • @seraphimipx2611
      @seraphimipx2611 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      WeAreSoPredictable thx again! i thought so. yep, artworks for the allies would be amazing. :)
      we have playes 4 games so far. and we like it a lot... only thing we need to figure out is to dial down the time :D but maybe that comes from alone. so far every game lasted an average of 4 hours... that can be slightly exhausting. haha. it somehow also feels that dracula is always having a hard time. don’t know if its balanced that way or the draculas just need to get more experienced.

    • @Prismatic_Rain
      @Prismatic_Rain 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hide card is easy. Dracula just shuffles it in with locations at the beginning of the game. If Dracula wants to hide he places that as his "move" for the turn, and also places a plot card with it when it is played. If a hunter later lands on that city where Dracula hid, both the plot card of the city and the plot card on hide are in effect and can be used to ambush or be found with a search.

    this game is so hard, its impossible to win as dracula, once someone finds his track everyone using train tickets and gang up on him or cut him off somewhere, its impossible to win. i think the guys i played with was cheating tho, their characters could apperently move both during day and night

    • @Wustenfuchs109
      @Wustenfuchs109 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why there are special powers that Dracula can use. Also, Dracula player must be really crafty and shifty (as you'd expect from a centuries old vampire) and cannot play as other players. And yes, if they moved both during day and night, they cheated and it breaks the game completely.

    Do you *really* have to move the whole number on the train ticket? How stupid is that? Rhetorical question. It's obviously very, very stupid. Looks like my streak of having at least one house rule in all my games will remain unbroken.

    • @jeremiahdillard9201
      @jeremiahdillard9201 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      No, you don't have to. Page 11 of the rules reference says "...the hunter can move to a city that is up to a number of railways away..."

    • @marknic
