  • Glock | Field Knife | Models 78 & 81
    First off I forgot to mention that the handles are made of FRN.
    Here I have for you a couple of beefy but not too beefy blades 👌🏼.
    The differences between the 78 & the 81 models is purely a fixed blade and the 81 has a sawback on it, along with the olive green handle and sheath.
    As these arrived in the post the day of posting this video I have therefore not had time to use them, however I have a good amount of faith in them, along with all the reviews about them all already !
    As I mentioned in the video these are made by Glock, a renowned arms manufacturer so they do know a thing or two about arms 👍🏼. Not to say they are going to be the best knives in the world but perhaps they are one of the most durable and in all conditions as per what they where intended for.
    For the price point as well I don’t think you can go too wrong at all because they are not that expensive and I feel you do get a lot for your money ! I mean these are about £10/£15 more than the HH Real Steel Luna 🤷🏼‍♂️
    I appreciate this was not the greatest review on these it was more of a first look per say, but I’m very much looking forward to going absolutely ham at some wood and destroying it as much as I can 😂.

    I have both of these myself. I recently purchased them after watching many reviews here on TH-cam. as most of then say, they may be the best survival you can get, but they are a very high quality knife that will last you and get you through most situations. I'm very happy with mine, even though they cost me just over $200 AU dollars thanks to exchange rates here in Australia where I live, but they are well worth the expense as far as I'm concerned. Cheers from Down Under from this Aussie girl.

    I've had several Glock knives and I prefer 78 over the 81. Even though 81 looks cool, the saw is pretty useless and acts as a weak point of the blade. I actually broke one 81 while batoning firewood. 71 is also cheaper.

    I sanded the little tooth that locks the knife into the sheath a bit. Easier to withdraw, now. Works great! Use the thumb of my draw hand to lift up the locking tab, as I draw. Easy one hand draw, and still locked in tight.

    Last week I unashamedly paid $164AUD for Glock FM78 and I brought 4 more (already had 2). I predict the Glock FM78 will be worth $1000 in 5 years. It will be more sought after and more collectible than the legendary Gerber MkII, for the fact it is both stronger, more versatile and more legal in more countries. Glock FM78 is the strongest most versatile military knife ever made. Its a masterpiece. My assessment after 50 years of collecting.

    Instead, you can also insert a metal sculcrasher or glassbreaker, which can be made with a hole drilled to match the hole in the plastic of the handle and threaded with paracord for fastening... that means replacing it with a plastic one...but make the hollow to be waterproof👍👍👍...in the case of emergency the hollow is ready to make survival spear..but carefully secure with a screw so as not to damage the plastic handle...prepared👍

    I've got both of the models as well, and I absolutely love them. The sheath is my favorite design that I've come across yet. I will say however that I wouldn't buy these unless you're capable of re-profiling the blade or willing to pay someone to do it for you. Both of mine came with a very dull spot on the blade and also the tip isn't very sharp either, and I've heard similar stories from others, where the blade wasn't very good from the factory. So only get these if you plan on doing that. However, once re-profiled/sharpened up, it's such a nice blade and the blade steel is pretty great and will take a wicked edge.
    Also, if you wanna make the knife easier to get out of the sheath, you can trim away a tiny bit of the polymer tip that snaps it into place. Just trim away a tiny bit at a time, because if you remove too much the retention will be lost.

    • @BladedArticles
      @BladedArticles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a fantastic testimonial right there, thank you for sharing for others 🙏🏼! I was lucky enough not to need a re profile when I got these but for sure need one now 😂. I also do whole heartedly agree on shaving a little bit of that poly tip away because darn these are hard to open one handed when you don’t 😂. Again thank you for the comment and helping others out it’s much appreciated by all 🤙🏼👊🏼!

    • @Visiblyblue
      @Visiblyblue ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How do you reprofile the tip? Mine came blunt

    • @madawcofarreat2348
      @madawcofarreat2348 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Visiblyblue Mine did too. I think they're just like that generally because it's a bayonet for the Steyer AUG first and foremost, and it's preferable to have those be a bit blunt for durability.
      You have to have the entire blade re-profiled though, since just doing the tip isn't feasible, at least to my knowledge.
      But getting that done will make it so much better overall anyway.
      I just sent mine off to a company that specialize in it. Wasn't expensive at all.

    • @jamesfair9751

      Is there any reason to buy one over the other or is it basically the same thing

    • @madawcofarreat2348
      @madawcofarreat2348 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesfair9751 They're the same, except for the serrated/saw tooth part. But as others have pointed out it's not really meant to be a saw in the regular sense. They're not really sharp at all, but are used to cut small roots when digging trenches in a tearing motion. If you're used to having a thumb on the spine while making finer cuts or feathersticks I'd just get the plain one without them though.

    It's amazing how many own ers of Glock knives don't realize there is a hollow handle for storage of survival items. Or if they know the handle is hollow, they never include in the review videos how too remove the cap for access to the hollow handle. The 2 holes in the sides of the Glock Knife handle are for use AFTER the cap has been removed.

    • @lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822
      @lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yes you can put small survival items in the handle but it's actually there so you can fit it on a austrian rifle as a bayonet.
      You'll be surprised how many people don't know that either lol

      The hollow handle is for the adapter..
      The Glock FM78 was a Bayonet from orgine..
      Bayonet for the Steyer Aug rifle.
      But now its used as combat and field knife.
      I have put a pommel on one of my Glock knives.
      The hollow part is to little to put serieus Survival stuff in..

      And by the most Glock knives you buy now..the end cap can not open anymore..
