    My name is Rod Jones. I'm a 5th generation farmer and KC-135 pilot in the Ohio Air National Guard.
    I was Active Duty Air Force for 16 years and have been with the Ohio Air National Guard for 4 years.

    I am absolutely amazed seeing the ingenuity that goes into some of the equipment you have. All those machines came from someone's idea and over time it was perfected.       Yeah, the machines nowadays definitely save a lot of labor! I can't imagine what it was like 100 years ago!

    One never realizes what goes into farming until I watch your videos. You guys have got to be able to do all sorts of things besides planding, harvesting and tending cattle. YOualso have to be able to repair and keep your equipment in working order. Great video Rod. Keep em coming because I truly enjoy them.

    You are in great shape climbing that silo every 4th load or so.
    That is what I should do. Clime our Leg each day. Well that was a good thought No I think I will pass. Admire you for climbing it also for your service to Our Country. We are very dry here about. 20 miles south west of Grissom Air Base. Thank you for taking the time to share your videos with us.

      I'm in terrible shape, but I can do what needs to be done! We haven't had any rain for 3 weeks! There is a good chance of rain tomorrow though!

    Making that cow candy! You guys are probably one of the last using the big vertical silos. Just about all of them down here in Mississippi are just monuments to the old days of dairy farming. Very few dairies left now down here. I bet you got varmints in that by the bushel!

      I don't know anyone around here that uses them anymore. Most of the dairy farmers have switched to bunker silos.

    I see where you will be one of the local performers at the Rickenbacker Air Show this weekend. i would love to attend the show but I will be baling hay down in Hocking county. Besides, $55 is pretty expensive to pay for admission. Have a good flight and keep the shiny side up.

      I hope you get your hay baled. Good chance of rain tonight.

    I agree I think it’s the Fans Not catching all the Seed or the Alfalfa and Orchard grass probably should of been Drilled in because of the Size of Seed that won’t Broadcast as far as Fertilizer! Looks like Good Eats!👍👍

      We did drill the seed in that field. Not sure what the problem is.

    15:12. Thank you. Now i know im not the only one. You need to go down one step the look at where you hand is & wrap that step with red tape 😎 or mount a large inflatable squeaky toy to the part you hit your head on. 😁

    A.O. Smith Harvestore's were popular in the '60's and '70's. I have the impression that many of them are currently unused.

      Nope.
      Most guys have switched to the bunker-type silos.
      Too much climbing!

    Grew up in NorCal (Sierra Nevadas) on a small farm. Loved the smell of fresh cut alfalfa!

      No pellets. After it ferments, we will feed it next winter.

    When you hit your head climbing up the silo was it as bad as getting “waffled” by the crew entry chute grate on the KC-135? 🤪

      Haha! I've never actually hit my head on the grate. I've got a couple permanent scars on my head from hitting the switches on the overhead panel when getting into the seat though!

      @@ohioflyingfarmer7050 back in early 80s as a copilot at Plattsburgh I was responding to a horn on alert and got waffled hard. Back then they didn’t have pads attached to the grates. I sat in the right seat trying to get my wits about me 🤣

      @@ohioflyingfarmer7050 disease,drought, flooding all caused by nature usually appear as spots ie circles. Spraying,planting,even harvesting,all things machine related are controlled by man.

      Great question!
      We do both. We have a usable silo so that allows us to store a good amount of feed versus building another barn to store dry hay. Plus, the silage has a slightly higher nutrient content since we store the hay wet.
