Bach's music is a bright meteor that has not faded since the last 3 centuries (so far); it astounds, captivates in its "simple complexity". God bless Rudolf Lutz, the singers, the choir and the orchestra.

A special nod to Esther Fluor on oboe d'amore. Such sweet and relaxed arches of sound, such confident and centered authority in the alto solo. I wish she showed up more in the Bachstiftung recordings.

Bach eventually provided a cantata for each Sunday of the liturgical year in Leipzig, but that doesn't mean that a new cantata was performed every Sunday. Do you really think that, on top of all his administrative duties and the private instruction he gave, that in just 7 days there was time to compose a new cantata, and prepare a fair copy of the score for the copyists, and have the copyists copy out all performance parts by hand, and rehearse? At university, it would us take 6-8 sessions just to rehearse this cantata.

@@ericfern8869 I think that 17th-18th century composers/ musicians were not stricken with our modern, frantic, hurried, assaulted senses. In order to fully comprehend and appreciate the *highly complex and linear* character of Baroque music, it must be comprehendable to be savored - and that means performed in a relaxed, "savorable" tempo. To Baroque composers, the term "Allegro" simply meant "cheerful and lightheaded," not "break-neck fast." Too many modern interpreters of Baroque music perform it so unnervingly fast that all one hears is an incomprehensible sonic blur. As a college music professor once told me: always take the Middle Way, tempo-wise, with Baroque music; neither too slow nor too fast. That's all I'm saying.

    • @bobh5087
      @bobh5087 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ericfern8869 You're arguments are essentially meaningless, as "unequivocal proof" is literally impossible - there are no sound or video examples to "prove" anything... only second-and-third-hand writings (i. e., historically removed subjective personal opinions).
You are, in fact, generalizing and jumping to unsubstantiated "conclusions." What does "fast" or "slow" even mean without composer-inscribed metronome indications (which early composers never provided)? Who knows. As a British musician friend says: "It's like asking, 'How long is a piece of string?'" Obviously, there can be no answer.
I still stand by my opinions, as I'm certain you do. In the end, everything in Art boils down to personal tastes and aesthetic judgments. And this is one "generalization" I'll wholeheartedly continue to believe.

@@neosannyasin8022 The message is love and hope. Nothing wrong :) but of course I see your point. But there are bad people in every powerful organisation who use their influence for their own "advantage" and harm others. This isn't a problem of religion, it's a problem of power. Abuse f.e. is also an issue in every other organisation which cares for children. The institutions in the catholic church how ever have failed fixing the problem because they come from times of absolute hierarchy and have an attitude of "solving the problems of the church in the church". (Btw. Bach was a Lutheran composer and this topic isn't a really big problem in Lutheran Churches due to their more modern structure and theological orientation)

PLEASEE I BEG YOU and I thank you for so much beauty and art presented BUT Bach Foundation, for instance, has changed its introduction from a huge bombastic fanfare to a subdued one....please...COULD YOU replace the clapping for something else? I have you in my playlist and I go from Bach to an apparently infinite obnoxious clapping...pleeeassse...I think you are the best of the
    best except for that :(

Turn your volume OFF! Lutz is paying homage to his musicians and singers individually and in subgroups, and he wants everybody to thank all those talented artists one by one. It is his privilege, and if you don't like it, don't bother anybody with it. turn your computer off.

I once had a music teacher who said the difference between the music of Bach and Handel was a matter of "personal preference". What an idiot that man was. Two ears but nothing in between and ne'er a heart with one beat of passion.
