  • Bach’s famous chorale 'Jesus bleibet meine Freude', from cantata 'Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben', was first heard when the cantata was performed in Leipzig, on 2 July 1723, for the Feast of the Visitation. It was during Bach’s first months as cantor and he reused music that he had to hand, as he often did. Bach had already written most of BWV 147 in 1716, as an advent cantata for the court chapel in Weimar, but it was only in Leipzig that he added the recitatives with instrumental accompaniment and the well-known chorale. So Bach turned a concise cantata (opening chorus, four arias and probably a simple closing chorale) into a big two-part cantata.
    Recorded for the project All of Bach on December 13th 2018 at the Grote Kerk, Naarden. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.
    The English subtitling for this cantata was sponsored by the American Bach Society. The translation was made by Daniel R. Melamed and Michael Marissen. For an annotated version of the text and translation, see bachcantatatexts.org/BWV147.htm.

      Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a prolific German composer who in many ways is the father of Western classical music. He was a genius at counterpoint, which means lines of melodies that wind together, creating melody and harmony at the same time.
      He wrote 7 sonatas for flute and harpsichord. The harpsichord was a precursor to the piano-but instead of hitting the strings with a hammer, they are plucked. A “sonata” simply means a solo instrument with some kind of accompaniment, and they are one of the most common types of chamber music. 18:55 [Astraios Chamber Music]

    As a teacher of singing, I would like to compliment the singers in this performance. Exceptionally fine voices, perfectly formed vowels, words that can be understood, excellent intonation, and not a hint of pretentiousness. Unfortunately, many singers we hear performing Baroque and early music are not of this caliber.

      @Boysermusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of harmony, pitch in the range of the major key generally evokes a happy feeling, Bach takes this to the extreme with attention to detail. The result is as an extremely joyful hymn that just makes you want to dance. The second section bounces to the other side of the colour spectrum, evoking a really serious emotion instead, making one lament various things. Each musical technique Bach deploys is carried out to perfection.

    I'm not a religious person. But I love that religion spurs artists to create such incredibly complex marvels of beauty. Bach of course is the master of the ear. But I just came from India and I saw the architectural version of what Bach did with music in Humayun's Tomb, an Islamic monument built in the late 1500s. It was conceivably the most well-structured building I have ever beheld. Every single angle was just a wonderful play of light and shadow, all in expertly-carved red sandstone and marble. The marble interior was just as mathematically precise as the exterior, and from every angle in every entrance you took, which was 12. I cried tears of joy when I had been there 4 hours and I saw the sun set, the muezzin call reverberating over the base of this tomb, which was a subtle interpretation of infinity as you went around and around in a circle. No building before or since has made me cry. Bach and the Muslim architect of Humayun's Tomb--true geniuses that married math and beauty together in one resplendent union, all for the glory of God.

      Вы не совсем правы Аркадий. Все мы становимся людьми по факту нашего рождения, но разными, добрыми, либо злыми, либо понемногу и теми и другими, либо никакими. Но музыка призвана доставлять людям эстетическое наслаждение, и напрямую никак не связанатс воспитанием личности человека в духе гуманности, милосердия, и смиренномудрого терпения. Общеизвестны исторические факты, свидетельствующие о том, что в третьем рейхе буквально процветал культ поклонения перед музыкой Вагнера, Моцарта, и Бетховена. Однако смею заметить, что официально одобряемая, и навязываемая силой официальная идеология его была , мягко говоря очень далека от гуманности, и даже более того, именно под сенью национальной немецкой культуры как раз развивалась и расцветала буйным цветом одна из самых человеконенавистнических идеологий 20 века. Так что никак не существует прямой связи между получением эстетического наслаждения от приобщения к высочайшим достижениям мировой культуры и уровнем гуманного развития каждой человеческой личности отдельно. Ведь можно совершенно не любить и не понимать величе музыки Баха, но быть пои этом милосердным, смиренным, добрым, мудрым человеком, и наоборот😮.

      Ni siquiera una pequeña gratificación a los técnicos de sonido, músicos i el director? Ni siquiera a Johann Sebastian Bach? Quien fue el mayor músico i compositor de todos los tiempos.
      Respeto mucho a la gente creyente, pero actitudes como esta me hacen reafirmarme en mi pensamiento sobre la alineación de los creyentes a la iglesia y sus creencias, sin apreciar lo que hicieron y hacen los humanos en la tierra.
      Gloria a Johann Sebastian Bach.

    I suppose like many others this is one of my very favourite Cantatas. I watched and listened to this performance with happiness and thanksgiving in the half hour build up to Christmas Day. How wonderfully Alex Potter sang and the power of Matthias Winckhler's voice really impressed.
    I do wish that NBS would give the names of the obbligato performers. I really enjoyed the Oboe d'Amore playing in the Arias.
    As always excellent playing by the continuo.
    What a delightful gift from the NBS. Many thanks to you all.
    I wish all of you reading this a joyful Christmas. Greetings again from Port Moresby PNG. :)

    La perfección en esta Tierra. La grabación es definitiva, el individualismo de los solistas, la entrada de los instrumentos, las caras, el,fervor de la interpretación. La gran arquitectura sonora de Bach y los subtítulos en inglés. Un trabajo muy bello, meditado por las cantatas. Todas ellas son maravillosas. Es el gran descubrimiento en TH-cam de vuestra falange al principio de la pandemia. ❤

      fonte di gioia per loro stessi
