This is one of the most beautifully uniquely designed homes I’ve ever seen. The innovation, detail, global influence and use of space texture and material is simply devine. What talent he has! I’m definitely watching this multiple times for inspiration.
This was so artfully filmed -- and without the style getting in the way. And I loved the details about the cement blocks and the choice of materials and finishes.
I've heard the phrase "lifestyle porn" before. Didn't know what it meant until now. Wow! What a beautiful home and the couple just seem so amazing and thoughtful. I am trying to get ideas for what I want my home to look like. This is an amazing video!
I met him once when he was giving a lecture in Melbourne Uni. Nice person who emphasise on material honesty and a true believer in the courtyard house. I even had him signed my copy of his book. I always use this house as an example of composition of elements of design.
I am currently doing my 2nd year in Architecture. I'm doing a project on a shop house and this house has been my inspiration since everr. I really want to design something influenced by this beautiful residence ❤️
I have always been wanting to become an architect, and actually lost hope of becoming one ever since I started IB last August 2016. This video really inspired me, and pushed me more to become an architect all over again. Thank you so much.
I didn't go for architecture because of my high school mentor who said there is no good living in architecture because the Chicago market is over saturated. As much as like what I do, this is the biggest regret of my life. If you have passion and determination for what you do, you'll enjoy it and you'll find a way to make it work.
omg its my dream house!! i found this house in a magazine here in new zealand and fell in love.. i never threw the magazine out because it really embodies the house i wanted.. i'm glad to have seen it in video form
I'm becoming obsessed with semi courtyards. Indoor spaces that seamlessly meld with outdoor spaces. To be in your living room and be sitting outside at the same time is incredible.
I have never seen such an inspiring, creative, playful interior design!!! It's a courageous fusion of an unforgettable adventure with the joy of life - but what a wonderful life! 🍀 Bravo! Thank you,
IM super impressed with their art collection and use of materials and colour. It's clear that they're rolling in the dough. The indoor outdoor play is magnificient. Thank you for doing this feature.
Wow.. just wow... I would love to design my own house even though I'm not an architect! Really thinking about making a tiny house to keep myself dept free to survive my mid 20's and 30's ;p
No paint. No air conditioning. But they hv 3 cute cats. Thank you Architect Steven for sharing yr modernist architecture home with the world. My favourite design as it is blended nicely with the natures and so environmental friendly. Amazing architecture. Awesome home owners.
Boy is this home a treasure. Love the meticulous details such as the craftsman's notes on the steel pole, "do not paint." This home has soul. Plus, hello? These trees are the centerpiece. Bravo.
Pretty awesome. You transfer imagination into the real. The strongest connection between outdoor indoor. Super detail in every aspect, high art, comfort .. etc, and more... and so on.
This house might be my favorite of all time. Only thing missing is it needs to be transported to a beach somewhere, or a cliff overlooking an ocean...but goodness gracious PERFECT combination of in/out!
Wonderful ideas and execution , the culmination of a lifetime obvioisly of all his best multicultural experiences and ideas. MY husband who was a builder and I, in retirement, went to the former Colonial capital of Central America while we were cruising on our sailboat. WE lived for 6 mos with a local family in an authentic Spanish colonial courtyard centered home next to the most beautiful 16th century church there....we fell in love with the town, the family, their friends , the social life, the year round spring climate, the tropically planted courtyard centric homes, everything about the place. Later we sold the boat bought an existing house with views,of the surrounding volcanoes and went to,work designing and building our dream home. IT is in keeping with the Spanish colonial locale....mahogany and cedar solid cabinets and woodwork throughout, all local materials, enormous wall,of arched glass windows on the upper, level to bring the views in....deep terraces for outdoor living providing a large outdoor living room in front of a traditional two, fountained Spanish Mudejar courtyard. I did the drawings and the decorative tile and mural painting . My husband hired and managed the construction team. It took us seven years to complete, living on site with an average of 4 workers....A similar house in California would have cost us millions. I planned the garden having had some university training in garden design.....Aside from being highland coffee finca country, this once was the largest cut rose exporting region in the Americas right here, so the volcanic soil is perfect and we were still able to get the stock for a Spanish style rose and tropical plant garden. It is bliss....the culmination of our lives and to be here with people who have become our family is a privilege beyond compare. So,I understand deeply, in my soul, what this house means to him. WHat a wonderful thing to have achieved....and the indoor, outdoor esthetic is such a happy way to live at one with nature...a paradise!
I visited this house when Dwell organized house tours throughout Venice Beach and Santa Monica. It was my favorite and feels like a real home that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor space. It is very private from the street which reminded me of homes I visited in Marakesh. Steve Erlich is an amazing architect!
I love the inner courtyards and the openness of the whole space, even though you still managed to have private space. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us. Shukran.
I loved every single detail of the house. There are big windows, doors to bring whole outside indoor. glass bridge, Vibrant colours, unique guest bed room. it is mind blowing. You did a marvellous job. Well Done.
holy crap... well that was just about the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Multicultural modernism as a way to reflect a culmination of diverse personal experiences into modern architecture. Beautiful.
feels like a very genuine home- from the owners to the design. nothing was forced. not pretentious at all. now am off to find my courtyard house and my condo will be inspired by your multicultural modernism
I think houzz should show more of the house with their voice over. so we get to see more of the house. my fav thing about the house is the octogenarian tree and least favourite was the glass bridge, not really comfortable when u r wearing skirt and people are below. great that he didnt use paint
Such a beautiful house. It has everything that I love, in it. From the walls and stairs, to the outdoor and indoor spaces. Those trees are magnificent ! I just love it all. ♥️
This is definitely the best well designed house which i have ever seen in my entire life. Never too much but never too less so this modernist building looks not cold but beautiful and vibrant. The architect did amazing job!
Wow!!!! What an amazing house and property. I just love this whole design. It’s architecture, it’s design, but not cold as many homes that are “over designed” are. You know, more like showrooms that are just there to impress people. This house oozes warm colorful personality, a home that is lived in. You can clearly see what’s important to Steven Ehrich and his wife, instead of “what does people want to see if they visit me”. I love trees, and my dream is to build a house on a property with old majestically trees , just like this guy did. I just love how they designed The Whole build around those trees. I love the “multicultural modernism”. That’s just my style. It’s sort of a bohemian meets design outlook. You can clearly see how he designed the house and she warmed it up with her bohemian comfortable style, and of course his treasures from traveling around the world. One of the things I loved and found made this home so personal was all the photos on the kitchen walls. I wish you could show us more of this home
I love it!!! Especially the huge windows in relation to the highlights of the house such as the trees and the pool. Also the openness created by the use of transparency for bridge. Last, but not least the sincere use of materials. What a fantastic creation.
It's perfectly designed. Cozy and warm and open, all at the same time. Spaces are flexible. The flow of air is incredible. Perfect play of colours whilst not going over the top. Especially the courtyard and trees blended with pool just puts you in that naturist space when one gets up in the morning. I loved two of the furniture concepts. The glass table in main hall with lots of books underneath it and the dining table with those benches giving you unrestricted access to whole table and simplifying your motion. Just perfect.
Hands down this is the best home I have ever seen online. It might not big a typical 20k sq ft mansion but there is just something about the house that make it so cool, the architecture it’s amazing. I love their decor as well, everything’s seems to have a story behind. I’m In love with this house, beautiful!
Incredibly inspiring , love the ingenious use of materials both natural and man made all designed to flow seamlessly from season to season . I am in Love with this :)
This house is so dreamy! 😍 I love that the fact that they used sand colored carpet in the living area.. it gives an illusion of a continuous connected outdoor and indoor space..
Hey neighbor, we live on San Juan and pass by your wonderful home on our doggie walks. We've always suspected, judging from the outside, that the inside would be special. Indeed it does not disappoint! Thank you for sharing and helping us to be inspired by design.
This house is an amazing celebration Art & color that makes one feel happy to be alive. Just watching it on my computer screen uplifted my mood so much !!!
This is hands down one of the most beautiful designed and tastefully furnited houses I have ever seen in L.A.-and I have literally seen 1000 over the years-bravo&kudos👌🏼
A designer and an idealist... it's reflective of all his own personal experiences, his enabling visitors, his family and himself to take a journey/ revisit his life/ work/ passions/ treasured memories of his personal liveable album and his done so with practically, function not just aesthetics.
This house really is an outstanding design merging both form and function. It has real character, and it looks sophisticated without seeming to be pretentious and sterile. I love it.
I absolutely love everything about this house, he is brilliant with the natural flow this house allows between the outdoor/indoor and all the natural light that comes through, being an avid reader I fell in love with all the areas to have books and read. If I ever could afford it he would be the one to help me design me home... just brilliant! 😍
Absolutely phenonminal! Never have I ever beheld such beauty! I'm stunned! This is absolutely My most favorite design! Can never forget this! Thanks for such a beautiful thing to share , you made me happy today! Thanks again!
This had completely driven me to become an architect. One of the most amazing houses i've ever seen. Probably the best for me. I'd love to take this as an inspiration once I start designing. Love it!
I love the indoor/outdoor elements. I think it would be neat to use conex containers to create a house with courtyards and different pods somewhat like this. We have so many of those shipping containers sitting around, it would definitely be environmentally friendly.
A perfect balance between: cozy, contemporary, geometric composition and materials. My congratulations architect! As an architect, would like a home like this.....
I totally agree! I just saw this video and immediately sent it to my husband saying 'the is it! Multicultural modernism!" Absolutely LOVE this house :)
I wonder if this man might be the son or grandson of Joseph Eichler, architect and builder of so many open-design mid century homes? If so he has taken Eichler’s art to the next level. Wonderfully warm and deeply inspiring. Thanks for the tour.
Perfect, out of all the great homes I've ever seen in my life this is probably the best. Only thing missing is a hifi set up with a turntable and a few thousand records.

Beautiful design. I love how eclectic it is, yet it all works together.
It's like living in a piece of art
*‘Ehrlich’ means ‘honest’ in German .... one can feel the authenticity of the man! It doesn’t get any better than this!!!* _Brilliant!!_
So impressed, I watched it four times. Love that it has no paint. I wish I could have seen the powder room, and master bedroom.
I want to be an architect by just watching this! They transform art into real life!
This is one of the most beautifully uniquely designed homes I’ve ever seen. The innovation, detail, global influence and use of space texture and material is simply devine. What talent he has! I’m definitely watching this multiple times for inspiration.

of all the random house videos I keep watching, I like this house the most. Modern, happy, and bright.

Same😁😁😁
Master overall design. Inside and out. Really like the exoskeleton and interesting surfaces. Perfect.
I love this house. Using the trees as part of the home instead of cutting them down.
This man is a genius really. How gorgeous is his design and he gets to live in it!
omg its my dream house!! i found this house in a magazine here in new zealand and fell in love.. i never threw the magazine out because it really embodies the house i wanted.. i'm glad to have seen it in video form

Roy Wardenaar It'd be worth the investment! Also, you dont have to be an architect to design a house :)
Roy Wardenaar that's really a good idea me too I'm in my teens but I could make it for my 20s sure is a great experience to travel in my country (:
absolutely, all you need to do is to feel the space and adapt it.
A space that honours the trees that were there before they came in. And beautifully executed!
No paint. No air conditioning. But they hv 3 cute cats.
Thank you Architect Steven for sharing yr modernist architecture home with the world.
My favourite design as it is blended nicely with the natures and so environmental friendly.
Amazing architecture.
Awesome home owners.

Stunning home. So much depth and symbolism was incorporated into the design.
So inspiring...love the courtyard design and the entire philosophy of design that is so beautifully articulated in the space.

To me, it’s breathtakingly beautiful!
Great example of brilliant architecture in a village by the beach, perfection.
Finally a colourful house! Beautiful work.. 👌
This house might be my favorite of all time. Only thing missing is it needs to be transported to a beach somewhere, or a cliff overlooking an ocean...but goodness gracious PERFECT combination of in/out!
This house is divine. I love that his wife added softness to the house with the furniture. Such a good combo.
I am absolutely in love with everything about this house 😍😍😍

Not usually a fan of ultra-modern homes, but this house is well designed and beautiful. Job well done, Ehrlich!

After watching so many minimalistic contemporary bel air /beverly hills houses
my eyes were almost dry
so everyone will ignore the sentence, "we want to preserve the trees because they were here first"? what a beautiful line.
When he said "no paint" I started really paying attention
This house really is an outstanding design merging both form and function. It has real character, and it looks sophisticated without seeming to be pretentious and sterile. I love it.
