While I'm an SSB DXing kind of fellow, I am very glad that there is a dedicated frequency for folks who do CW and digital modes. I'm currently trying to learn CW because it's a foundational stone in the history of amateur radio. Thanks for another awesome video...73...Hugh...KN6KNB
Very under utilised band here in VK, but we are very lucky to have a small area for SSB/voice comms. I use it when activating WWFF parks as it fills the skip zone between 40m & 20m. Cheers, Adam VK2YK/VK5GA
I used to work PSK31 on 30m and always found someone to chat with, but not much lately. I also like CW on 30. I've worked into Europe and Australia on 30 with a compromised antenna and not much power. Great band.
I do like the way we do things, we only have a bandwidth restriction and it's quite generous. Under our rules if AM is fine, so is 8Khz wide SSB, but I don't run this 😆
Great overview. 👍I don't think the downloadable ARRL frequency (band) charts identify a bandwidth restriction; they do show RTTY and data only. Not saying you're wrong. I learned something.
I haven't use 30 meter yet but plain to . I have a few UNUN I can use like a 4:1 or 9:1 . I have wire length cut chart for both. I want to use ATU 0n 7300. I can E-TUNE 50 watt or less . Should be fine for FT8 . I hear WWV on 10 mhz all the time so band is open ! Just going to use CCA speaker wire from walmart to test . Once I find a UNUN I like and wire length I will make a winder and UNUN with good wire for 30 meter band. I don't care about 80 meters. I won't talk health problems over the air. But I may work 40 meters . Girlfriend may join Lids on the air ! I told her use my call go back to them. We just listened instead . Looking for random length that can tune 30 and 40 maybe 60 meter . I have good 20 meter to 6 meter end feds I use. 49:1 / 4:1 / 9:1 UNUN . I need to buy more toroids . I had 56:1 and 64:1 and 4:1 BalUn but re wrapped them. We got lots of snow in 2 storms. 3 FT first one and just night 1 1/2 FT . Getting deep snow hear. Boston NY . I see watertown NY got over 60 in total on news. Crazy ! 73
No. Pota/Sota are not timed, don't use small slices of bands (pile-up-intensive), don't award points, are invariably using much slower CW speeds and lower power. Pota/Sota by their very nature don't use hi-gain antennas. The exception being 2m activations...even then they are low power. Even SSB pota are using much lower power than other stations. Parks On The Air organization goes to great lengths to not be a contest. Hence, they don't run afoul of the WARC bands.
I chillax on 30 all the time. CW all the way. Love it. Low noise floor. .
Awesome!
Mr. SMOKINGAPE!!! I would like to tell you that your channel inspired me to go out and get my Extra class license sir.... THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for watching, glad the channel inspired you! 👍
Thanks for the reminder. It's been a while since I've perused the 30 meter band. I like to setup there when I'm doing SKCC's Straight Key Month.
Hey Ralph, thanks for watching 👍

Yeah, I enjoy the band myself 👍
I have never heard any bad behavior on 30M. Nice place to be! Thanks Mr. Ape!
Hey SF, thanks for watching!
The logical home for HF APRS and JS8Call
Howdy LC, you are correct!
Great video! I never really looked into 30 meters. Very cool! 73
Glad you liked it HRR, thanks for watching 👍
Great job Ape full of fantastic information 73
Hey Andy, thanks for watching bro 👍
I have had a lot of fun working 30m and 12m this year. I might just re-cut my EFHW for them!
Howdy Danny. I like doing ft8 on 30m, always get good results 👍
ur description is exactly right!🇺🇸
Thanks for watching 👍
CW all the way!👍😃🇺🇸
👍
Thanks Ape. I have gotten some great contacts on 30m. Japan always seems to be using this band as well as other DX Entities.
Thanks for watching Don 👍
Good stuff, Ape. Leave no band behind!!
Haha, thanks for watching Mike 👍
Very grateful to have SSB privileges here in VK on 30. I find it’s got the characteristics of 80 metres but without the effect of the D layer.
Hey Peter, thank you for watching 👍
Great video, I love 30m for FT8
Right, me too 👍
A video on 30 meters? I'm subscribing!
Welcome aboard!
I know! It's like Rodney Dangerfield always used to say..."I don't get no respect!"
Ironic I was chillin on 30 today before you released this. Ha. It’s a great band.
Thanks for watching Nate, glad you liked it 👍
I like 30m 👍📻⚡️
I think it’s getting more and more popular 👍
I love using digital modes and I need to utilize 30 meters more often. Thanks for the vid, much appreciated. KC8ROA
Glad you liked it, thank you for watching!
Good video
Thanks Gary!
A contest free portion of the spectrum seems to appeal to more hams these days, an interesting trend.
trend?
It’s nice to have a contest free space 👍
Here in VK, we can also use SSB on 30m. :) You should note that the rules you mentioned are ONLY applicable to the USA!
and Europe

@godarklight lol
Whenever I see a POTA spot on 30m, I always try to make contact. Perfect for my mid-level CW capabilities and compromised antenna.
Thanks for watching Doug 👍
Long live the smokin ape
lol, thanks 👍

Glad it was helpful webanon, thanks for watching!
30 metres is my favourite band, if had to choose only one band, i'd choose 30.
Awesome man, thank you for watching 👍
I keep my radio tuned to WWV on 30M
Good way to check propagation 👍

Hey Robert, I use speaker wire for for testing all the time. Thanks for watching!
I tried several times on 30m to make a qso on CW. Never did get one.
Dang!
Isn't sota and pota a contest?

@jeffreyhall4149 cool
will it work with efhw 4010 or 8010?
My rigs built in ATU is happy with my 8010 EFHW. But a 4010 EFHW will never work.
Probably the only HF band that is still courteous. I have my opinion as to why, but I'll leave that up to the viewer. Thanks Ape. 73
Haha, thanks for watching Hollywood!
Naw, 160m has that crown. Unless your gonna be difficult and tell me it’s MF not HF 😅
@@forgetyourlife LOL!
@@forgetyourlife it’s MF, get off my lawn!
200 W PEP what a joke, 800W FT8 is the bare minimum !
Lol
