    Thanks, Peter. I love my FT-710. I have also had mine for one year - it was my first ham radio. At first, I was intimidated by it, but now, it's my go-to radio. Yaesu's receivers are so quiet. I love that! Thank you for all your videos. 73.

    I bought one from you based on your initial feedback. It has made an excellent first radio and I have read of a number of seasoned Hams that have said it’s the best radio they have owned.
    Clearly with a bigger spend you will find additional features.
    Thanks for the advice. 👍 73

    Great video! I love mine but I also do not have another radio I can compare it to. But with that said, it makes a very good first HF radio as it is very simple and easy to use, has all the bells and whistles you need to get going all while coming in at and excellent price point. Also it’s great for taking out of the shack and into the field with its size for some portable operations.

      I don't see a killer feature where would it be way better than the IC-7300? It looks like a competitor in the same price class with similar features. I don't see the point to throw away my IC-7300 and get this instead.

    • @OffSurfaceAdventures
      @OffSurfaceAdventures 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@la7dfa So the IC-7300 got a better sensitivity and lower noise floor and the FT-710 in some case better filtering? I am not sure what all those numbers really mean in a practical setup without comparing them side by side.

      @@OffSurfaceAdventures A really important parameter is the big signal handling. Will a really weak signal close to a 9+30dB signal survive? That is the most important trait of a radio, and here are were those modern HF Yaesu radios shine.
      Any cheap radio can have incredible sensitivity with a cheap component, but big signal handling is the important one.
      For a modest antenna setup the 7300 will work like a charm, but when you get a decent yagi in a relatively noise free location you will notice the difference.
      I remember a few decades ago when I was listening to the CQWW contest on 20m with my FT-767GX. That was a crap radio on HF and even on the most quiet and free frequency the S-meter showed S5 noise from all those big signals elsewhere on the band.

    I bought my FT991a just before the FT710 came out. I'm pleased with the ft991a which was an upgrade to my first HF transceiver the ICOM IC-718, I wanted the 2m/70cms capability too. I keep seeing people raving about how great the receiver is in the FT710 though, not sure I can really afford a second HF receiver or if the money would be better invested in my antenna system instead, hmmm if only money was no object!!

    I started with an Alinco dx9 and then added the 991a then the dx10 Yaesu and picked up the President Lin 2 plus but alas the Alinco and President have been sold dirt cheap and I find myself hardly ever chasing any signals or even powering up. My area used to have a number of repeaters on u and v but now hardly a one to hit. I seem to be the only one with an antenna on my car. Anyway, I plug my dx10’into an audio amplifier and eq and it sounds incredible.

    I've had the FT-710 for two years now and it is excellent. It is as quiet and sensitive as my FTDX-3000 and features excellent selectivity in a contest environment. It is 'head and shoulders' above an Icom 7300 and is cheaper as well. Advice for your video.....I would program "VVV VVV DE CALLSIGN' instead of 'TEST'. The 'test' might be construed as someone participating in a contest.

    The 710 is a standard setter. For its price range, the 450 for many years was the "compared to" radio but with the 710, the continuing improvement is almost limitless because it pivots on the use of software. Although in a different category, the Xiegu G90 is also software upgradable.

    I am very happy with my FT710 and think i made a great choice. Two minus points that i have found:
    1) The position of the tuning button, just below the power button.
    2) Not all functions are available using the touchscreen or mouse (e,g. going to the menu system). So when operating with a big screen and mouse you still sometimes need to use buttons on the radio itself.

    No built in soundcard is a bit rough this decade. Still need boxes and wires, does it do cat control via usb or is that more wires to buy and link up. I dont understand sometimes. For example, the old 847 with no swr meter, no vox and you need to be on different band for the dual RX to work full duplex. Cant do iss fm duplex etc. Why do they do this to us. A dedicated rx input is a basic necessity now too for many.

    Another great video, Peter. I too have owned the FT-710 for about a year. I have a VDI-D to HDMI cable and use an external HDMI monitor. On our radio club's WhatsApp chat there were some memebers warning of voltages coming back into the transceiever through the VDI cable prodiced by the HDMI in the monitor. This may cause a fuse to blow in the FT-710. Just wondered what your views were on this? Should I be using the VGA socket on the monitor? Thanks Peter, James (M7SWL).

    I have the FT-710 and I love the radio. One BIG fault is that there is no TXW button like on the FT-DX10 but you have to use the function-button for this. This gives a 1 second delay and that's way too long for finding a station in the pile-up when working split.

      Ah! You're just the person then. I have a couple of 991s, one in each QTH, but I've been fascinated by the 710. How do you think they compare? Is there a step change or is it just that little bit better?

    • @JohnR_ytbe
      @JohnR_ytbe 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @paulsengupta971 so the scope is a LOT better, and the controls for reducing noise are significantly better. Its sort of personal preference but *mostly* I prefer the button layout but I have tended to rest my fingers on the top of the case and on the 710 there's buttons there so that was an adjustment. There huge thing for me is the monitor and mouse support. Its not perfect but being able to click to tune and having the big screen really transforms the use for me. I prefer the menu system on the 710 too and it's a bit easier to set up for digital modes. I was interested in the 710 for a while after having used my club one with the screen and mouse I went out and bought one. I would say a significant difference but not game changing tbh. With the cashback and discount they can be had for £815 plus delivery and that's a bargain IMHO. Hope that helps!

I've had my Field model for a year as well and I find I don't need the extra speaker or the extra $$$. I'm still debating a monitor as I can see the screen and I don't have the desk space anyway! Essentially because the FTDX10 has a roofing filter before the ADC and so can achieve better blocking performance for signals outside that filter's passband.
      Depending on your requirements this may be an advantage but of course it is a more expensive radio.

    I have used my Icom 7300 since I entered the hobby 4 years ago. I did not like the user interface on the FT-891 (which I still own) and have a significant investment in a boom mic and rig control software for the 7300. Nonetheless I was intrigued by the reports of the FT-710's receiver, especially with CW. I debated between the FT-710 and the DX10, and opted for the lesser price of the FT-710. I have had it a week and used it primarily for CW. I can absolutely state the receiver performance on the 710 is superior to the 7300. I have them side by side with an A/B switch and it is definitely quieter and hears more. Begrudgingly, I will be migrating to the FT-710. 🙂
