      Great video as always! Fun fact about the SR71 Black Bird: the fuselage would stretch around 2 feet or so when flying over Mach 3 due to friction and the extreme speed! About the state fair of Texas, I have been many times myself because I used to live in the Dallas area for over 10 years. Grew up there as a kid. You guys would love it I'm sure! Like the man said in your video do check the weather forecast in Texas because it can and does get mighty hot 🔥. The fairgrounds are enormous too, so you'll do a lot of walking. Anyway I hope you're family gets a chance to go to Texas soon! Safe travels.

    They use coupons so that none of the vendors have to deal with cash. All of the cash is in a few places and is easier to protect than if every food stand and ride had several thousand dollars in cash.

    • @HikingPNW
      @HikingPNW 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Also it is a lot faster to just pay with coupons so you can get through lines faster on rides and food stands

    • @anthonyb.9336
      @anthonyb.9336 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The truth is they use coupons so that vendors cannot cheat the take out of proceeds. Usually when a fair has a coupon system, they charge for the booth then a percent of revenue. So the coupon may cost you $1.00 but the vendor redemption is only $0.80

    Years ago I took 2 college friends, one from Japan and another from France, to my state fair. I've never seen someone eat and try so much fair food in my life. Cotton candy, elephant ears, funnel cake, caramel apple, corn dog, street corn, fair scones and so on. They did an old west style photo with them dressed up like cowboys. One thing I always mention for people unfamiliar with going to a fair, bring comfortable shoes.

    Near beer or non-alcoholic beer has suddenly become popular in the last couple of years in the US. It comes from the regular beer companies (Heineken, Budweiser, Coors) but what is more interesting to me is that there are craft nonalcoholic beer companies now making really good products. I don't miss the alcohol at all.

    You don’t really need to stay near the actual fair. Just check the DART light rail routes and find a hotel near a station. There’s a station right near the entrance so you can pretty much stay anywhere in Dallas and ride the train in each day.

    To Deep Fry ice cream, a simple method. Take vanilla ice cream or any other plain ice cream (chocolate, strawberry, essentially any single flavor) and portion a scoop of it in a row spaced out on parchment paper on some baking sheets and transfer the baking sheet back into the freezer to let it reset. While the ice cream is setting crush up some corn flakes and put the crumbs into a dish and set it to the side, and prep another baking sheet with the parchment paper. Grab the frozen portioned ice cream scoop/balls out of the freezer and coat them with your crumbled and crushed up cereal and transfer to your new baking sheet, once finished place the baking sheet into the freezer, while that's resetting heat your oil in a large heavy bottom pot and prep the previous baking tray with sugar to roll the fried ice cream on once it comes out of your hot oil. Fry responsibly and never trust partially frozen, you want rock solid.

    Deep fried ice cream is a standard dessert at Mexican restaurants in America. They dip the scoop of ice cream in the batter/coating, put it in the deep freeze. When a customer orders one, they take it straight from the deep freeze to the fryer. It turns crispy and golden brown on the outside in just a minute or so, and they pull it out and serve it. The ice cream is still frozen because it is frozen so hard and cold.

    Lifelong Texan. I've been to the state fair once in my early 20s. It was great, I'm not big on rides, but there's so much else to do. Don't miss the car show, seeing the animals, the concerts! Fun fact: every year our school district gives each student a ticket to the state fair. I would have loved to take my kids when they were Leah and Garrin's ages, but as a single mom I never had the extra money. Nor felt safe taking them by myself. Y'all would have a blast! Guarantee if you want to start conversations with random folks have some T shirts made that say "first time in Texas, first time at the fair!" Texans love our state and are proud to welcome overseas visitors. ❤

    For visitors and tourists, ride DART light rail to the Fair. It is cheaper and safer than parking your car nearby in a run down neighborhood. Locals will either drop off riders if they aren’t taking the train. Hopefully it will not rain on your day at the Fair.
    Additionally, there are other tourists and family friendly locales in the Dallas - Fort Worth metroplex. I highly recommend a trip to the Stockyards in Fort Worth, Six Flags in Arlington, or the many museums.

    11:00 I have not been there but I imagine all prices is in whole dollars. So you will not find anything for $1.50 for example. This is good too because you don't have to worry about taxes that way. The fair must take out the taxes later based on their sales.

    If you come in October, you can also go to the Renaissance fair in Texas located in Plantersville awesome adventure walk-through the gates feel like you’re stepping back in time to the 1600s. And if you want to go to a good rodeo come in March and go to the Houston livestock show and rodeo. It is massive during the rodeo halfway through it. They have a live singing performance from somebody famous. They set up a stage in the middle of the arena.

    They use the coupon system so money security can be concentrated to fewer area of the park. If each booth took cash, each booth would need it's own security person. In general, no one is going to steal the coupons because they can only be changed back to cash by the vendors after the fair. Each booth at the TX State Fair can easily take in $10-20k per day.

    I'm originally from the Dallas area where this is at and I went with my mom every year. To me the best day to go is the day of the Texas vs OU football game cause the atmosphere is incredible. I would not park there or nearby cause where the park is in a pretty bad area. I would park in one of the surrounding cities like Irving and take the train to there. And yes they do have some incredible BBQ there as well. Plus you can do some shopping there as a lot of local and regional companies will sell their stuff and don't forget to check out the car show.

  • @RogCBrand

    There are about 2000 state and county fairs in America. Here in Oregon, we have 36 counties and the county fairs run from the end of May through the start of September, with most being 3 or 4 days to several, and the state fair being 10 days. If you do make it to the U.S., you might check to see if any county fairs are occurring near where and when you'll be. A county with a large population can have a big fair, but the smaller counties have much less hectic events- with a lot of livestock judging and auctions, things like judging of quilts, pies, etc., maybe some live music, rodeos, etc., and basic carnival rides and food stalls. I think you'd really enjoy the smaller fairs.

    Non Alcoholic beer is a small segment of the drinking market in the US. Typically, most bars will carry one brand (Athletic is very popular coast to coast) in cans for this purpose. Very rarely is it on tap.
    I prefer Urban Artifact Seeds NA Fruit Tart Beers if available, but they are mostly just sold in Midwestern grocery stores. They are really just adult fruit juices with no alcohol.

    I have to disagree with Mark on one thing, you DO want to go to the Cotton Bowl stadium during the Red River Rivalry. The Oklahoma Texas game is probably the biggest rivalry in college football. The games have been going every year for over 100 years. The first game was played back in 1900. Since it is such a long standing rivalry, the teams play harder and the games are usually pretty great. I'm from Oklahoma so I'm biased, but if you ever want to attend a college football game, that would be a good one to see.

    Kids will definitely need to learn to like Ice cream if you guys ever move to Texas because also the home of Blue Bell. Using coupons is so there's not a bunch of cash floating around so vendors don't have to worry about getting robbed or something. Cash is all kept through the kiosks and is heavily guarded until vendors " cash in " their coupons. Non alcoholic beer is not a thing here in Houston area very few places carry or serve them. In fact i know of only one restaurant/bar that i go to tbat has them. Being a visitor public transportation or DART would be ideal for you guys so no $40 parking. Definitely there's a rodeo at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo plus the rides and food and not hot because runs from middle of February into March.

    Greetings again from Texas. As a former chef and chef instructor I taught knife safety to the student chefs. And I just wanted to say that Jono is 100% correct about blunt knives being far more dangerous than a well sharpened knife. I understand the confusion and it does sound a little backwards but it's not really. Because if your knife is poorly maintained and becomes dull. You will automatically and most of the time without even thinking about it. You'll bare down much more forcefully to get the dull knife to cut. As a result, the chances of you pushing down so much harder than you would with a well maintained sharpened knife, the chances of the knife slipping and gouging or cutting you goes up exponentially. And if you are cut with a dull knife. It's more than likely that it will result in a jagged and deep cut. Whereas with a very sharp knife you aren't baring down very little if at all. And if you do happen to get distracted while cutting and you inadvertently cut yourself. It's typically a much shallower and clean cut . The fact that you weren't having to bare down gives you more time to avoid the cut or at least minimize it. So that's why it's always best to keep every kitchen knife well honed and sharpened. Along with safe knife skills of course. But that's a whole other class.

    Can't believe Texans would charge $14 to ride the boring ferris wheel once. Why isn't there a day-pass or wristband like every other fair on the planet? Take your whole family to the fair for the low low price of just $3000🙄...oh sorry, i mean tickets.

    The Texas state fair is one of the most expensive state fairs in the U.S. You pay for almost everything. It aint cheap.

    The YT algo is not allowing me to mention what happened at the Texas state fair in 2023 which involved a man with a
    🔫. It keeps removing my comment.

    Jolly has a Texas Fair Video you should react to. Those Brits show much more than this video.
