Kasey Kasem every week. But in the 60's we had different people doing the top 40!!! Love the 60's because experiencing the change those 10 yrs was incredible!!! Then came the 70's with their changes into the 80's. Stayed up on the music into the 2k's but then it got to be too much nothing really worth listening to. Thank goodness we had all the best music!!!

Riding around with your friends made for a great Friday night. Jumping from party to party. I feel bad for kids today. Christ last year they had to bring in the National Guard to my old school because the fighting was so bad. Yeah, the 60's & 70's were the best years to grow up in. Nothing but ✌️&❤️. That was the Carpenters, including the legendary Karen Carpenter. She had an angelic voice to rival any. And if that was legendary enough, she could also play the drums as good as any.

A lot of us were lucky enough to grow up with these tunes., Especially in the 60s and 70s, every day it seemed like a new artist or group came out with another hit. It really was an amazing time... And it's so gratifying to see younger generations today enjoying and appreciating a lot of the music of their parents and grandparents.

I am 60 years old and was born in 1964, so just turned 60. I am absolutely fascinated with looking at you younger folk on youtube being equally fascinated and appreciative of the older singers and songs of decades gone by. And song writers etc. It is very nostalgic for me looking back at these songs and knowing absolutely every single one. And sometimes an emotional journey to back to the past. Do you know the feelings of "oh I remember so and so when that song was a hit" etc. But as with many who have commented on your channel and others like yours, the 60s, 70, and maybe very early 80s were the best generations for "good" music. I absolutely love, love music, but after the early 80s I lost interest in popular music. The 50s were also good, but I would say the 60, and the 70s were the best. And many people have said that too. And I agree with them. They had the best song writers then and some in my opinion were great poets too. I mean that goes for all singers and groups then. As I said on another webpage like yours, you either had talent "then" or you didn't there was no need for Americas got talent, England's got talent, or Irelands got talent. You either had it or didn't as I say. I told my now 34 year old nephew you wouldn't be allowed up on a stage if you didn't have "real talent". You say in this video you wish you could do a side by side comparison between these "original" songs and the covers. Why don't you do that in your own time, and you'll definitely will be amazed at the "quality " of the originals, well that very much in my opinion. Some singers today have butchered some of the songs of the past. And this compilations that your plating in this particular video, why don't you look up each song individually and hear the full recordings. Just a suggestion. No ! Definitely I am absolutely delighted I was part of those generations. And grew up in the 70s. When they were still playing a lot of the 50, and 60, songs too. I think what is wrong today is that they don't have good song writers anymore or poets, so the singers of today are having to depend on the older singers songs. And in some cases doing their own versions of them. That's when I feel "personally" they butcher them. Showing my age now.😂. The instrumentals in some of the songs of the 60s and 70s were as good as the lyrics and made the songs too, as in a " whiter shade of pale". Or a song just called "music" I think by John Miles. I could be corrected. Anyway all you young folk keep up the good work. One more final thought, I think because the singers and song writers of this period, put so much effort into writing good songs etc, that is why they stood the test of time, I don't think we will ever see the likes of it again. Good singers today, "some" but not the calaber of the past. God bless.

Maybe because I'm a late boomer 😃 and was a teen in the 70s but it was the best decade for music. So much was going on! It was a transitional time with rock really defining itself, disco coming in along with New Wave, the last vestiges of folk rock, international artists other than the UK, and even new instrumentation.
There was also a dark undertone with peace and love hippy music falling by the wayside and social anxiety building over Vietnam and post assassinations. Then Nixon. It could be argued that was the last time the majority of Americans trusted and believed in the government. All that turmoil makes for good art, including music.

ABBA won Eurovision in 1974 and had a string of immensely popular hits during the seventies.
More recently the jukebox musical Mama Mia! was written around their music and later turned into a movie of the same name. Bringing them renewed attention, although even before that their music had remained consistently popular and featured in other movies like Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The 70's was my childhood!😁 I so miss those days, and the early to mid 80's (mid teens to 20). I grew up on my mother's music, so throw in some 50's and 60's, too. The music was so great!🥰 There's too many songs that I'd love to mention, Lewis, but "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" and "Lean On Me" made a big impression on my young prepubescent mind. As for Elton, I grew up hearing him on the radio all the time (here in the States), and I adore his early stuff.🥰 Two of my favorite songs of his from '74 (I think it charted then, but was produced in '73) were "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". It's too bad you're not hearing enough of the songs from this list, because they cut off too quickly for you to realize whether you heard them before or not.. and yes, "Horse With No Name" definitely has lyrics.😂Whoever put these samples together did a poor job representing most of these songs.🥲 Also, the woman you like with the "twang" in her voice, Helen Reddy.. she was actually Australian, not American!😂 But yeah, so many artists lose their accents when they sing, and she just happened to have the type of singing voice that made her sound more "country". And yes, Glen Campbell was about to sing about "riding out on a horse..! You got it right!😃💯💯Anyway, I enjoy watching your reactions, Lewis. Much love from upstate NY!🤗❤️❤️

I was in high school in the 70s and the music I remember was from school concerts like when Andrew Lord sang 'A Boy Named Sue'. Everyone was singing 'American Pie' and 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon'. Our band played 'I Can See Clearly Now' for a parade when President Nixon stopped over on the way back from China. I remember a song about a rollerskate key and brand new pair of rollerskates. The local band used to sing at sock hops a song about Jeremiah was a bullfrog.
The thing is that these songs took me from junior high to college when I met my boyfriend who became my husband who was from Japan so he was crazy about American pop, John Denver, Olivia Newton John, and songs with English lyrics especially ABBA, Horse with no Name, Santana; music over the PA in Wyoming colleges. I remember the explosion at Three Mile Island and music playing at the time was Afternoon Delight, Sailing and Ride Like the Wind by Christopher Cross, music of Elton John and Grease.

It's awesome and she even changed some of the lyrics, instead of " I can see all obstacles in my way" she says, " I accept all the things that I cannot change", I probably got that wrong, been a while but listen to it if you like the original, she's great! I have several favorites of these 70s songs spread out thru the video. These are the songs my parents would listen to & still do occasionally.
Lewis, u had me cracking up w/the song "Brown Sugar", when u said "I don't know who this guy is, but I guarantee u, I know what was happenin'..."
I was like "He doesn't know who the lead singer of the Rolling Stones is?" It's Mick Jagger.😄
Bob Marley did write & perform "I Shot the Sheriff" in 1973, but Eric Clapton did a cover of the song in 1974 w/Bob Marley's blessing. Later, Bob Marley got ticked off for 2 reasons. Eric Clapton's cover version became more popular than Marley's reggae version topping the charts in the USA, Canada & England. 2nd thing was Marley wrote the song to express his dislike of birth control, & Clapton's version was taken as a cry against corruption & injustice.
U might recognize more of the songs if u listened to them in their entirety, not just snippets. That possible memory triggered by the song "Top Of The World" by the Carpenters, might be from when u were really young & u heard it somewhere.🤔
Hey u know, seeing that "You're The One That I Want" was #1 in August 1978, brought back the memory of my grandmother taking me to see GREASE which was released at the movie theater June, 1978, when I was about 6yrs old. I remembered asking my grandma what a "hickey" was. She told me "It's a monkey bite." Man, that confused my little 6 yr old self.😄 The actress/singer that played Sandy in GREASE was Olivia Newton-John. They showed her earlier in the video, where she sings "I love u...", & u said "Aw, I love u too." She was mainly a singer.

Yes, the disco clubs were so much fun. I took disco lessons, those turns were fast. Lots of fun.

I was born in 1960 and was in high school in the 1970s and we had the best music ever!! The 1970s music was, and still is, #1. We had so many great singers and great bands it would be hard to pick a favorite. The Doobie Brothers was my favorite Band, followed by Fleetwood Mac. My favorite song of the whole 1970s was You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone, which was actually the longest running #1 song of the decade, although it gets left out a lot. some of my other favorite bands was Kansas, Queen, The Eagles, The Bee Gees, Abba, Heart, and Creedence Clear Water Revival. Favorite singers were John Denver, Olivia Newton John, Jim Croce, Karen Carpenter, and Linda Ronstadt. Delta Dawn was country and sung by Tanya Tucker. In the Clip you played she was only 13 years old! seriously there were so many good songs during the decade of the 1970s.

LOVED IT ! Thanks for taking me down memory lane. My teenage years were the 70's. Never liked ABBA until I saw Momma Mia, now I love them. Great songs, good times !!!

Also born in 55. Spent early 70s happily listening to all of these in high school. In Alaska, where I carried a big ol radio to keep me company on my morning 4 mile hike to the bus stop under the stars and deep cold. Actual magic even if my mini skirt and heels were ridiculous for the weather! Anyone else remember the Desiderata??

It was so good during the disco era, I was there with the glittery disco ball over the dance floor, having a blast. Love all the Bee Gees songs

You get bonus points Lewis!! Who doesn't love Grease & Olivia Newton John. She was on your 70's list wiyh 'I Honestly Love You' - but you didn't recognize that song. She also sang Xanadu.

Thanks for a blast from the past! Best music, ever. If somebody opened a 70s disco now, it'd be packed, guaranteed! Hop in the car, windows down, music blaring, just cruisin....

So fun, thanks so much! On the other ocean, Santa Cruz, California. I turned 13 in 1977, knew all the songs. Great job! I'm now in a great mood too.

I was born in 1968, so the 70s was my childhood and the 80s was my teen years. After graduating high school in 1986,
I didn’t really pay attention to the new music anymore. My parents introduced me to music from the 50s and 60s.
I love it all still, what I grew up listening to. The best music, Rock and Country all comes from the 50s to the 80s.
Country music became very popular in America in the 1980s. A country group named Alabama won the “Artist of the Decade” award for the 80s. You should check them out.
