Well done. I used (my neighbor actually) oxy-acetylene and got it red hot. Turned right out. I didn't know the welding trick or I would have tried that first. Soaked mine in vinegar to remove the rust, but media blasting is just as effective :-)
I have a friend with an induction heat gun, that thing is incredible. It can make things glow red hot but you don't have to melt anything nearby with the oxy torch!
Weld a washer on broken bolt welder amps as hot as you can handle it.Weld a nut same way,it will easily come out.I have done this on 1 1/2 bolts,as a certified welder in a large paper mill.

Next time I will do. I've used that trick a few times since on my old Dodge truck restoration some of those 90+ year old bolts were very stuck!
