ABSOLUTELY AGREE---WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!! You will understand a couple of things better if you do...1)All the excitement when Kevin Bacon(Ren) 2)Chris Penn(Willard-Blue suit guy,you referred to as "fish out of water")dance moves...Just make sure you watch the 1st Footloose BEFORE watching the 2nd one cause well in my personal opinion the 1st one is the better of the 2,and it gives you the base line you need to understand all the excitement you see at the prom...
The school where this was filmed had their last prom in 2023. The school was demolished this past year. The students had a campaign to invite Kevin Bacon to the last prom. He accepted live on national news. It was a big deal. You should see the movie.
Senior year for me, older brother a member of the westcoast breakers, they opened for the premier of Footloose at the fox theater in Portland, OR. Great era to be alive!
As a teenager of the 80s, everything seemed exciting and fun. We were always on the move. Our school didn’t have dances but this scene accurately reflects the happiness of the time.
this is the real thing that we all need!!! i lived thru the 80s and i can tell u that if i could choose i would live in that era all the way!we were happy .healthy and wise
The character played by Chris Penn couldn't dance a lick and didn't want his girl dancing with anyone else . So there's a movie montage of Kevin Bacon teaching his new country boy buddy how to dance. Basically it's the first time all these kids in this town can dance publicly. Fun 80s classic movie to check out. Yes, glitter effect.
You have to watch the movie to really appreciate this dance. A religious community that was forbidden to dance as the parents thought it was a sin. So, the kids took it upon themeselves to have their first ever prom. They turned a deserted warehouse into the dance floor, and they literally cut footloose!
In a bit of irony, my father, who was also a preacher, had a similar belief that dancing was a sin. Although he wasn't as vehement against others doing it as the pastor in Footloose
What is funny is while the community this was filmed at wasn't against dancing, they were very religious (Mormon) and they were in the middle of the Satanic Panic. I grew up there. There was a big kerfuffle about not allowing school bus drivers to play the rock station on the bus. It was country or 50's music...and a little while after that country wasn't allowed either because the lyrics were dirty. (Sleepin' single in a double bed!)
One of the best 80's soundtracks ever recorded. A few facts: 1. This dance was the first time these kids were allowed by law to publicly dance. 2. The guy jumping around learned how to dance in this movie and that was the first time his girlfriend ever saw him dance. 3. Lastly, Kevin Bacon at the time of the movie was just out of his teens, just starting to act; at the time he was on a soap. But yes he did the flip, went to college on a gymnastics scholarship, but didn't finish college. Now you know.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂🎉
The original school where this was filmed got taken down a couple years ago. The senior class worked hard to get him to come back for one last dance. It was amazing!!❤❤
Wrist guy/Williard was all big and bluster with a heart of gold and three left feet until Kevin Bacons character taught him how to move to the rhythm,. He was played by Chris Penn, Sean Penns little brother who sadly died in 2006 at age 40 from heart problems which he had his whole life.
Loved the whole montage of him learning and practicing. Loved when he was upstairs and there was actual dust falling on his parents downstairs. The looks on their faces … classic.
I wasn’t old enough when it came out to see it in the theater, but I saw it at least 20 times at home 😂 my siblings and I memorized it and it is one of the first movies I showed to my best friend because he hadn’t seen it. This is must watch material.
So good to see you again! I'm 68, yes we had some crazy shit back then, but music crossed all colors! Heck I took 6 years of tap lessons a minute ago and can still out dance many lol, well in my mind! Peace from Northern Michigan!
If only you had seen how little ability the tall wrist action guy had in the beginning you would have said "Well done dude". Those scenes where Kevin Bacon was trying to teach him were hysterical. Do yourself a favor and watch the movie. Great reaction as always AB! ❤
This scene will mean so much more if you watch the movie. You should keep in mind, in the '80's EVERYTHING we had was about music, dancing and FUN. It wasn't gangsta - it wasn't drugs - it was about FUN - having FUN and good music. This movie was about kids (our age) being told that music and dancing was illegal. It was ALL WE HAD back then. So, the event in this scene was a long culmination of every '80's kid saying " we will not surrender our music - we will dance" and they did. GREAT MOVIE!
It was filmed in Lehi, Utah, about 20 minutes from where we lived at the time. The Roller Mill, where Kevin Bacon worked and the dance was held, is still there.
I was 12 years old when this movie came out. Saw it in theatres. Loved it and thought Kevin Bacon was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Definitely see the whole movie!
I remember seeing that movie in the theaters at least a dozen times back when it released, and that dance scene at the end of the movie had EVERYBODY dancing together. Just seeing people who didn't even know each other dancing in the isles together was why I went to go see it so many times. Great memories. Unfortunately we can't do that today because people might get their feelings hurt. 😂
I remember I went with three of my friends, we were in a line over a block long and the theater was so crowded we could not even sit together we were scattered in between strangers and we were only 13 at the time. We all still love this movie 😂
LOL! Such a great reaction! I loved it. You need to watch the movie, it’s good. It’s about a town not allowed to dance, listen to music, etc. very southern old school Church going town. Kevin Bacon’s character moves with his mom from Chicago to this town. He shakes this town up.
Iconic movie, iconic dance scene, 🕺 you definitely need to watch it! Iconic song by Kenny Loggins!! I would have been a sophomore or junior in HS when this came out! Loved it!❤ Thanks AB!!👍👍👏👏
My sister and my sister in law were both attending the high school this was filmed at. My sister in law's big old 80s glasses can be seen in the lunch room scenes. They paid the naked butt kids in the locker room 50 bucks to show it off. One of the boys looking bored in the prom scenes had a crush on my sister. So, yeah, everyone that lived there at the time still talks about this movie. It was a big deal...and so much of where this was filmed has changed drastically since 1984.
I saw this movie on my first date with the guy who was my junior prom date. 😊 You should see the whole movie since it adds a TON of context to this final dance scene.
I can’t tell you the first time I saw it, but I can tell you what I was doing the first 3 times I told my parents I was going to see it. Aaahhh the good ole 80’s high school party days. It was the best.
I was 10 when this came out. It was a huge deal since the movie was filmed in my home state. If you are ever driving on I-15 through Lehi, UT, you can actually see the Lehi Roller Mills building where the dance took place right off the west side of the freeway.
The high school where the movie was filmed, recently closed, and the senior class recreated this movie and dance for their prom and asked Kevin B. to come... and he did! look for news clips from "foot loose high school prom with Kevin" it's pretty cool. :)
Bruh. You are cracking me up hahahaha I was born in 76 and I remember hearing this song played so many times a day on the radio. It was definitely a thing. Lol such a fun song and dance. 🤣🥰
This town had banned dancing - all dancing, no matter how sedate. I don't remember the details, but Kevin Bacon's character had managed to defeat the ban and this scene is a celebration. It's worth a watch.
They brought in two ringers from the local clubs: the guy who does the break dance, Luis Ledesma, and the guy who does the poppin', whose name may be Stephen Hammers. They were also both in another 1984 film "Breakin' 2". ( I guess there was also a "Breakin' 1" ?)
The whole premise is that a heavily religious town in the deep south, outlawed dancing as "immoral". The movie was about the fight the kids put up to change the law so they could dance at their prom. This is the finial scene of that movie. This movie, Caddy Shack, Porkies, Animal House, Breakfast club and a few others were water sheds for my generation.
I would have been 8 when this came out. Don't remember seeing it, but I'm sure my mother took me. I do remember listening to the soundtrack when I was allowed to go along with my best friend to her sister's bday sleepover. Soundtrack was on a vinyl record, and the sleepover was at their father's house. He had a pool table and I was trying to play lol.
Best movie. Best sound track: Footloose; Lets hear it for the boy; Holding out for a hero; Hurt so good; Almost Paradise; Dancing in the sheets; Never; I'm Free ... plus others. I was 6 when it was released. I don't recall seeing it for the first time .... just seem to have always have seen it lol.
I was 14 years old when that movie came out. They did a remake. Sometimes its not a good idea to make a remake. The original was the best, and I went to the theatre to see it. Classic. Love it to this day. So many great actors and actresses in it. Sara Jessica Parker from Sex and the City is in this.
I have seen this movie 1000 times and never ONCE thought about THE GLITTER. OMG now I can't unsee it! You need to watch this. The one guy couldn't dance before this scene ;)
Dude, not sure if you know (and probably a lot of other viewers don't know), is that guy dancing @1:50 is Chris Penn, brother of Sean Penn, and the girl is Sarah Jessica Parker. He was actually a pretty good actor himself. Oh man, I feel so old now. 😂
Yes!! You definitely need to watch the whole movie!! I remember exactly when I saw it for the first time!! I was a sophomore in high school and saw it in the theater when it first came out!! I wore out my vinyl copy of the soundtrack I played it so much!! It's a fantastic soundtrack!! You should definitely give it a listen!! I'm sure you've reacted to some of the artists on there!! 😁
The guy who was jumping around in the beginning and then dancing up a storm throughout with the blue frilly shirt hadn't known how to dance in the beginning of the movie and Kevin Bacon's character had taught him how to find a beat in a song to learn to dance. Previously, he hadn't wanted to dance with the girlfriend because he didn't know how and that was an actual type of dance back then when guys jumped up and down and rammed into each (kind of a weird dance, I agree). But that was Christopher Penn playing him - Sean Penn's brother who passed away a long time ago at a young age, unfortunately. But you really should watch the movie. It's very entertaining!
I was 35 and a mother of two younguns ages 9 & 6 when this came out. I loved it then and still do. ♥ Wish it was out when I was in high school 40 years ago, I would have danced my ass off. I always loved to dance, can't now, but then, ooooooooweeeee I danced, a lot!
I was in high school when this movie was released and I remember listening to a hand held radio on lunch break waiting for this song to be played, then we all squeezed like teenagers do
I graduated High School in '82 ..... I was in the US Air Force, stationed in Europe in '84 .... The song was huge, and I mean huge, But I didn't see the movie until I got home .... sometime in '86 or '87 .....
I was 21 years old and saw this after it had come out in the regular and watched at a movie theater that kept playing it after. I was in college and was home. I was about to make the worst decision of my life. I could write a book. You are right. I know exactly where I was when I saw this movie. I loved it because I went to a southern Baptist school, ironically, and was not allowed to have a prom. We had a senior banquet.
Yes, I do remember the first time I saw this movie. It was my senior year in high school and my best friend and I went. We got so annoyed at a group of girls sitting farther down in the theatre, they would scream and squeal each time Kevin came onscreen. As if he was Elvis or something - I like Kevin but I’m not going act like that over him. Anyway, we went again when it moved to a smaller theatre and loved every minute of the movie. Highly recommend checking it out. BTW it’s actually based on a true story.
That dance will mean a lot more to you once you watch the entire movie.
Yes! One of my favorite movie.
Yes. I had just been to my jr prom when I saw this movie!! It was a great time to be alive!!🎉😊
Yes, Kevin was magic.
100% need to see the entire movie - it is an absolute classic!!!
ABSOLUTELY AGREE---WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!! I would watch that.
Definitely
I agree as well! I need to know the entire build-up to this point.
@@abthekreatorfilm it's a top must-see dance film

I didn't know this; how cool; thanks for sharing!
That was one of the coolest things 😎, I love Kevin Bacon
Wow! Thats pretty cool of him to do. Thanks for sharing this information.
The dancing is so important at the end because it is in a town where dancing and rock music were illegal. So it is no ordinary school dance.
This scene is not about how good they could dance. It's about their joy in being able to dance.
Those people on set are still finding glitter in places 😂😂😂
We popped confetti many years ago for New Year and are still finding pieces every blue moon after cleaning. I can only imagine glitter 😅
Yeah, I can't stand glitter. It has a bad habit of sticking around forever.
Senior year for me, older brother a member of the westcoast breakers, they opened for the premier of Footloose at the fox theater in Portland, OR. Great era to be alive!

I miss Chris Penn. The scenes when he was learning to dance were precious. Now I want to watch Reservoir Dogs.
I was graduating high school the year this came out. Such a classic. You’ve definitely got to see it!
Radical acceptance ❤ let folks move and dance however they move. Anyone brave enough to dance deserves grace from the viewer.
80s were the best. Bring the 80s back, we need it.
I was in 8th grade….there was nothing like this….everyone was up dancing in the aisle! Best thing EVER!
Wow! I’m sure it was a great time to be alive.
Man I miss the 80s SO much~!!! I was 19 in 1984,it was such a decade of fun........🤗

Kevin still has glitter in hair to this day! LOL
To Kevin's credit, he still has his own hair!

I loved it because I went to a southern Baptist school, ironically, and was not allowed to have a prom. We had a senior banquet.
???? what????
U need to see the movie ❤
I was in kindergarten and we did footloose for the end of year recital
Now you MUST watch the movie! 😉
You funny AB 😂✌🏽
