The most beautiful thing to me about the ending of this movie is how perfectly they both complete their arcs at the same time. Rocky goes the distance, knows he's not just another bum from the neighborhood, and has this connection that means everything to him and he's not lonely anymore. And Adrian, who tried to take up no space, never say what she wanted, just shrunk into nothing her whole life physically pushes her way through this whole crowd of people to get to Rocky and tell him what she felt first. Perfect.
Great point. Its not only Rocky who comes out of his shell, but Adrian is a revelation as she finds strength within herself, she never realised she had after being put down by everyone and her loser of a brother. She becomes the "Rock" for Rocky.
Mickey finaly fight a big fight. Paulie helped Rocky training to break ribs and later helped his sister to get in the ring. Even Gazo did a god thing with his dirty money.

He's so in tune with her, that he places her before his obvious pain to notice something so trivial about her. Great review - thank you for posting this!
This is so much more than a sports movie. This is a love letter to all the invisible people that we take for granted every day. Pet shop workers, butchers, teachers, nurses... the people who make up the true backbone of this world and yet constantly get sh*t on. That's why the ending is so perfect: even after he manages to go the distance, Rocky still knows what matters most and all he wants is to be in the arms of the love of his life.
The older I get, the more this fantastic movie makes me cry. There are so many details about the characters revealed through wordless images. I’m sure someone already brought it up, but the story of that dog melts my heart. Stallone was homeless , that was his dog, he had to give him up. He wrote Rocky , sold the script , bought the dog back and put him in the film.
I saw it on my own on a VCR in 1982 or so... I was 11 in Belgium. It's amazing to know this movie was so well crafted, played, directed, that I understood every details, every romantic situations, social, dilemmas, inner turmoils of each characters. This movie changed my life, the same way it changed many teenagers from the 80s. Now you can easily understand why Rocky's univers is so cherrished. I'm glad women of the 21st century can discover and appreciate one of the most touching love story ever written. This is Stallone's heart.
This is one of the greatest movies ever made, bar none. It's NOT a sports movie. It's a movie about Heart. It's ALL heart, and it's a love story. Adriane and Rocky are one of the greatest couples in all of movie history. I don't think I've ever, ever heard a negative review of Rocky. It's the best.
I remember seeing this film in 1976 and when the movie ended the the whole theatre stood up and cheered, I've seen that happen after a movie in my lifetime!
Butkus the dog is actually Stalone’s dog that he was forced to sell when he was a starving actor before this movie was made. Very touching story. You should look it up
The Rocky movies just feel so GENUINE. The characters are written so well and depicted so realistically, and in such a short amount of time. You have to watch the next one too!
Was 12 in the theatres when this came out. Let me tell you during the fight everyone in the theatre was standing yelling out for Rocky and then the final bell many had tears in there eyes. Even me. Still to this day the most iconic movie experience ever. Well done!
I remember when we saw this in the theater, first, there wasn't a dry eye in the place, second, everyone was standing and cheering like it was a real fight! EPIC!
There are two types of people who watch this movie, people who think Paulie is just a dick, and people who see the pain beneath it. Most don't see beyond his actions. Not an excuse by any means, but it IS an explanation. People often attribute their own actions to their circumstances, but attribute others' actions to their personality (Paulie must just be a dick, it's who he is,, but I'm acting like this today because I had a rough life or I'm angry). It's nice to see someone who gets it. Great reaction.
Personally, I appreciate how you understood Paulie's character more than most reactors. Nobody understands how Rocky doesn't want Paulie to get in that criminal life, so he's trying to protect him, although Paulie can't see it. Also, you saw how Paulie was dealing with growing older in a physically demanding job and how it was that despair that made him act out like that.
@@MeDaisyDog-n7f Jesus, thats a rough looking 36. Just died last year I believe though. Paulie is what Rocky would become by sticking with his lot, just another angry lowlife.
@MeDaisyDog-n7f he lived a bit more than the rest of the cast. Honestly, he jad far more experience boxing than anyone else in the cast since he picked up boxing while he eas enlisted in the Marine Corps. He had a pretty great record of wins. Even had a fight with Muhammad Ali for charity. Paulie was going have a bit more of fleshed out charactization in the original script that emulated Burt's life. He was going to be a veteran and was drinking to deal with his PTSD. That's why his character is negative so often. But they cut that bit of backstory sicne they were so tight on budget. If you look in his living room, you can see a real life picture of Burt in his Marine uniform.
This movie changed me as well, I went from a chubby unathletic 11 year old to someone that’s been focused on health and physical fitness ever since the early 80s. This was and still is my favorite movie and movie character. Thank you for reviewing this; this franchise means a lot to me.
This is a must see franchise. Some misses, but an iconic movie character throughout. This, the sequel and the bookend of the series, Rocky Balboa, are cinema gold! Hope you get to each of them.
I’m glad Stallone didn’t go for the storybook ending of having his character win the fight. It was all about proving to himself that he was somebody, in a rough life where he felt like a nobody.
It wouldn't have been right or appropriate for Rocky to win the fight. Apollo hadn't taken the fight seriously, or trained hard to be at his best. Rocky winning would have been ultimately undeserved and unsatisfying. Championships have to be rightly fought for and earned to be meaningful.
I was 25 when this film came out and watched it in the campus theater in college. Since then, I think I've seen all the TH-cam reactions and your's was one of the best and most authentic. Hope you do the rest of them, now. thanks
Yes! Mickey always believed in Rocky's ability as a fighter. But he hated the choice that Rocky made, to become a "leg buster" for a loan shark. I don't think Mickey was ever trying to "get a piece of the money" by asking to be Rocky's manager. But rather, I think he saw an opportunity to help Rocky finally turn his life around. People don't become coaches to get rich (though for some, it does work out that way). They become coaches because they enjoy teaching young people how to maximize their talent, and improve their lives. Edit: BTW, this movie was set in 1976, which was the bicentennial anniversary of the United States. The celebrations were huge, and that's the reason for all the red, white, and blue.
One thing that always stood out to me in this movie is one of the best supportive characters of Rocky is the loan shark. Most of the characters barely give him the time of day until he gets signed up to go against Creed.
When I was in the navy , my buddy lived in Philly and invited me to see QUEEN in the Spectrum. I was more interested in running up the stairs at the museum. I did it! It was one of the best moments of my life! Love this guy!
The most amazing moment there. While they were reading a split decision on the most important fight of his life, he didn't even care to listen. Was just looking for Andrian. Beautiful!!
One aspect that a lot of people either don't know or don't remember is that the Bicentennial was a huge deal all year long in 1976, and of course the 4th, Veterans Day, and Memorial day were also really amazing. The end of the year was kind of melancholy because the celebration was over. I hope the Tricentennial will be the same.
The first Rocky is Stallones masterpiece. It:s a great movie that is on another level than the many sequels. This movie stands alone in that Rockys' victory wasnt about winning the big fight; Stallone went deeper into the character and wrote something more real. The power of love in ones life; being able to see beyond the dark path that his life was on. He didn't want a rematch because for him it wasnt about winning a boxing match .. he now had Adrian in his life along with new possibilities. A brilliant bit of writing by Mr Stallone.
Yeah, 'Rocky' surprises everyone - most people expect a boxing movie and instead they get a love story with some boxing in it :). I defy anyone to not fall in love with Rocky (and especially him and Adrian together) - genuinely don't believe there's a more lovable underdog character in cinema. (and as beautifully written, acted and shot as it is, it wouldn't be the movie it is without Bill Conti's _legendary_ score IMO, always great when a reactor really digs it :)
Rocky is a Franchise that has the right amount of Life for the women and the men. I have seen so many woman reactors from all types of backgrounds start the movie Rocky, get blown away with the details, and must see the entire story of Rocky & Adrian and every character that adds to the story. With men, it’s a no-brainer that they will love the boxing and everything else the movie has. Both Men & Women enjoy watching it together. Get ready to enjoy the entire Franchise!
I've been watching this movie for close to fifty years. The more I watch it the more emotional I get with a lot more scenes. The body language in so many scenes is just incredible. Rocky and Mickey's convo at the apartment kills me every time.
If they stopped after the 3rd film it would have been a perfect trilogy. I love the other films too but the first 3 are masterpieces. You’ll like number 2 even more. I’ll be looking forward to your reaction.
This movie feels human. All the characters are so relatable because they feel like real people. Take, for example, the loan-shark that employs Rocky. For sure he is a scumbag and we all think he has second intentions when he gives money to Rocky but its not the case. He really likes Rocky and cares about him. A person may be a bastard and do also good actions sometimes like a real person. Boxing is the less important thing of the movie but its also good. The training montage and the music are superb. This movie is very touching and great.
You have definitely earned a sub and like from me Thank you 🙏 To see a woman watch this and actually... GET IT, has blown my mind There's so much more to this franchise... this JOURNEY than you could see yet. And things you could not see from a male perspective Sylvester Stallone is the greatest male philosopher when it comes to raising boys to be MEN This is the GREATEST movie ever made for raising strong men. It is more than just cult! This story not only raised an entire generation of GenX boys to be good men, it inspired the Boomer generation as well. My Dad introduced this to me! HE was inspired by it and changed his ways to act like a better man. A man with meaning! This story taught every GenX boy that a REAL MAN fights to go the distance. That a MAN's role in life is to risk his life and go the full distance to take care of the people who NEED him. Rocky Balboa taught me that my role in life is to PROVIDE and PROTECT the people that matter; regardless of my own life This movie RAISED me... and my entire generation of males to be providers and protectors of our family, our close friends, the women we love and our kids... even if it means our life has to end because of it Thank you for GETTING IT! I REALLY want to see you react to the entire story Thank you so much for your reaction I'm so glad your channel popped up Thank you 🙏 I'm so looking forward to see you go down this rabbit hole 🤗 You need to watch the movies in order, but Rocky 3 will really make you tear up And there's a speech in "Balboa" that Rocky says to his son that every single real male on planet earth can relate to So looking forward to joining you on this journey 😊🙏
The whole point of Rocky, the thing that makes it a piece of Steinbeckian art, is that he knows that he can't win. There's simply no way. He just doesn't want to lose. He just wants to be there standing when the final bell rings. How much more heroic is it when someone perseveres even knowing that there is truly no way they can win? Also, anyone who hasn't seen the fascinating story behind the making of this film is really missing out. The best thing about this movie though, and many people miss it, is his love for Adrienne (sp?) and the way it manifests right at the end. When she runs to him in the ring, losing her hat along the way, this man who just achieved the greatest thing in his life, the greatest thing he will ever accomplish, who can barely see, barely stand, when she reaches him the first thing he says to her is "where's your hat?"... THAT is how much he's into her. True love is selfless love.
It's actually kind of funny watching you get so emotional about the movie, but only because so many of us have been right where you are. There's a reason people know the Rocky movies, and that is they are genuinely good - they also, IMO, get better. Yes, sometimes they are a little cheesy, but the genuine core of the movies is always that Rocky is a decent person who makes the people around him better.
This movie just does something to anyone who has a soul, we have all been down and broken but never out of the fight. Also your such a beautiful soul, damn you canada for getting a special women

"Awww...I love them!" Everyone loves Rocky and Adrian. I am very lucky to have found my Adrian in life...been married since 2002, and I wouldn't trade a day of it for anything. The older I get, the more I appreciate Stallone's early original movies like "Rocky" and "First Blood." I sincerely hope that he finds the time to sit down and watch some of these reactions to his early movies and fully understands how timeless and impactful they really are.
And to think, Stallone wrote and acted this movie, and it was one of his first. Nobody wanted to take a chance on it, but he stuck with it, was persistent. And man he knocked it out the park. It's a classic that holds up decades later.
Stallone had sold Butkus before the movie because he was broke; when Rocky turned out to be a success Stallone took some of his profits from the movie and bought Butkus back.
Yeah, sly had to sell him when things got rock bottom. He was broke, practically homeless and had to make a horrible choice as he was struggling to feed them both. Luckily it wasn't long before he wrote Rocky and the film was greenlight so he immediately bought him back.

I’m sure someone already brought it up, but the story of that dog melts my heart. Stallone was homeless , that was his dog, he had to give him up. He wrote Rocky , sold the script , bought the dog back and put him in the film.
The guy he keeps talking to outside Mickey's gym is the man who bought the dog. lol That was part of the deal to get him back.
I've seen it happen once...Rocky 4.
I saw that happen at the end of this movie and when the shark exploded at the end of Jaws.
Butkus the dog is actually Stalone’s dog that he was forced to sell when he was a starving actor before this movie was made. Very touching story. You should look it up
I heard this comment in Stallone's voice.
Still holds up, after almost 50 years! Can't wait for you to continue the series.
The Rocky movies just feel so GENUINE. The characters are written so well and depicted so realistically, and in such a short amount of time. You have to watch the next one too!
Rocky 2 is a must, best sequel ever.
Agreed. Huge Star Wars/Star Trek fan, Huge fan of Empire Strikes Back and even bigger fan of Wrath of Khan, but Rocky 2 is unmatched as a sequel.
@@digitalranger4259 tome, it's one of my all-time favorite films. LOVE R2.
I think a large number of people would say Godfather II, but Rocky II is great as well.
My vote goes to James Cameron's "Aliens".
Definitely one of the most underrated sequels of all time!!
You are one of the few reactors to tear up during the “not another bum from the neighborhood” speech. To me, that is the key line in the movie.
That whole series deserves a watch, including the Creed movies.
Good hunting.
Was 12 in the theatres when this came out. Let me tell you during the fight everyone in the theatre was standing yelling out for Rocky and then the final bell many had tears in there eyes. Even me. Still to this day the most iconic movie experience ever. Well done!
I was nine and still remember people jumping up and cheering when Creed went down at the beginning of the fight.
I saw it in the theater, too. People were punching the seat-backs in front of them, too. Exciting.
I remember when we saw this in the theater, first, there wasn't a dry eye in the place, second, everyone was standing and cheering like it was a real fight! EPIC!
This is my favorite movie of all time!
This is one of those movies that checks all the boxes
There are two types of people who watch this movie, people who think Paulie is just a dick, and people who see the pain beneath it. Most don't see beyond his actions. Not an excuse by any means, but it IS an explanation. People often attribute their own actions to their circumstances, but attribute others' actions to their personality (Paulie must just be a dick, it's who he is,, but I'm acting like this today because I had a rough life or I'm angry). It's nice to see someone who gets it. Great reaction.
It's still the only movie I've ever seen get a standing ovation in the theater.
Omg, I'm 63 and I've seen this movie 100 times. I'm weeping right now. I think this is best movie I've seen.
Oh girl...get ready for an emotional rollercoaster with these Rocky movies.
It's a ride for sure
Personally, I appreciate how you understood Paulie's character more than most reactors. Nobody understands how Rocky doesn't want Paulie to get in that criminal life, so he's trying to protect him, although Paulie can't see it. Also, you saw how Paulie was dealing with growing older in a physically demanding job and how it was that despair that made him act out like that.
You know what's crazy? Burt Young (Paulie) was only 36 years old when they filmed this. Does he look 36?
@@MeDaisyDog-n7f Jesus, thats a rough looking 36. Just died last year I believe though. Paulie is what Rocky would become by sticking with his lot, just another angry lowlife.
@@MeDaisyDog-n7f
He looks like he’s 163
😁
"I love you! - I love you." What better words could there be at the end.
This is the best most thoughtful, insightful, observant and sensitive Rocky reaction I have seen.
Not our stories, it's theirs - Hon that just made my day..thank you
This movie changed me as well, I went from a chubby unathletic 11 year old to someone that’s been focused on health and physical fitness ever since the early 80s.
The first surprises you, the sequel hooks you. You'll want to see them all.
I'm 60. Watching a young person respond to a movie I saw in 1976 is like time travel
I love seeing young people appreciate this movie. ❤️
I'd much rather say I got to hear Queen live than I ran up some stairs, but you do you! Lololol
Ah yes. The beginning of your Rocky movie journey. Get your tissues ready and prepare to be inspired. All heart.
The most amazing moment there. While they were reading a split decision on the most important fight of his life, he didn't even care to listen. Was just looking for Andrian. Beautiful!!
ROCKY IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE
Sylvester Stallone made his character Rocky Balboa an absolute legendary icon there wouldn’t be a Rocky franchise without him.
❤️❤️❤️
One aspect that a lot of people either don't know or don't remember is that the Bicentennial was a huge deal all year long in 1976, and of course the 4th, Veterans Day, and Memorial day were also really amazing. The end of the year was kind of melancholy because the celebration was over.
I hope the Tricentennial will be the same.
You can't beat these beautiful older classics
"It's all heart, this movie." might be the best one sentence summary I have ever heard. This movie really is all heart, start to finish.
@@marti-mar8974 EXACTLY! Stallone showed genuine integrity both in his screenplay and his performance, which are missing in all the sequels.
This is one of the BEST reactions to Rocky I have ever seen. I am so thrilled it affected you like it did.
The sincerity and innocent of Rocky in this movie is top notch. Can’t wait for your reaction to Rocky 2.
I'm so happy for you! This movie is an all-time great.
I’ll be looking forward to your reaction.
the scene where mick goes to see rock at his apartment has to be one of the best scene's in movie history
Stallone’s best movie…. A true heartwarming experience!
The other movies are fine, but this one is the most special.
You have definitely earned a sub and like from me
Thank you 🙏
To see a woman watch this and actually... GET IT, has blown my mind
There's so much more to this franchise... this JOURNEY than you could see yet. And things you could not see from a male perspective
Sylvester Stallone is the greatest male philosopher when it comes to raising boys to be MEN
This is the GREATEST movie ever made for raising strong men.
Rocky Balboa taught me that my role in life is to PROVIDE and PROTECT the people that matter; regardless of my own life
This movie RAISED me... and my entire generation of males to be providers and protectors of our family, our close friends, the women we love and our kids... even if it means our life has to end because of it
Thank you for GETTING IT!
I REALLY want to see you react to the entire story
Thank you so much for your reaction
I'm so glad your channel popped up
Thank you 🙏
I'm so looking forward to see you go down this rabbit hole 🤗
You need to watch the movies in order, but Rocky 3 will really make you tear up
And there's a speech in "Balboa" that Rocky says to his son that every single real male on planet earth can relate to
So looking forward to joining you on this journey 😊🙏
Lol!
@holddowna hopefully it's not to cold up there, I'm a Texan and first time in my 39yrs I'm having to wear snowboarding pants lol. It's a crime
My favorite movie ever. I've traveled to Philadelphia for birthdays and fights. I can't tell you how much Rocky means to me.
1818 East Tosculum Street in Philadelphia......that was where the outside of Rocky's apartment was filmed. The building is still there in North Philly.
Probably gets a lot of traffic
"Awww...I love them!" Everyone loves Rocky and Adrian. I am very lucky to have found my Adrian in life...been married since 2002, and I wouldn't trade a day of it for anything.
The older I get, the more I appreciate Stallone's early original movies like "Rocky" and "First Blood." I sincerely hope that he finds the time to sit down and watch some of these reactions to his early movies and fully understands how timeless and impactful they really are.
"Cinderella man" next. Another great underdog, love story with boxing during the great depression...and a true story.
You MUST watch all the films in this franchise.
I was in high school when this came out. I bought the soundtrack the next day. It's one of the best soundtracks of all time in my opinion.
Did you go to Sam Goody or Tower Records to buy the soundtrack, that would be played in the tape deck of your Oldsmobile?
And to think, Stallone wrote and acted this movie, and it was one of his first. Nobody wanted to take a chance on it, but he stuck with it, was persistent. And man he knocked it out the park. It's a classic that holds up decades later.
Fun fact. Butkus the dog was really Sly's dog in real life. Definitely keep going with these.
Luckily it wasn't long before he wrote Rocky and the film was greenlight so he immediately bought him back.
one of my favorite movies and now you have given one of my favorite reactions of any movie. Your insight is spot on. Your emotions on your sleeve. Many people don't get the nuances,- but you got it, from the get go. I will watch this one again. And you know what I like most about you - the same qualities that Rocky has, down to earth and able to show emotion. You have no idea what this reaction did for me today - I have been in a bad funk for weeks. You helped me cry and laugh and in the end feel ok about facing tomorrow. So thank you for that.
THERE ARE NO BAD MOVIES IN THIS FRANCHISE.
Only growth.
Well, maybe 5, but by then you're so invested that you push through. Oddly, some of the later movies where Rocky can't box so well are the best ones because the characters are so well-developed by then.
@ Rocky 5 is like Star Trek 5, not a bad movie, just not as good as the other ones. One of them has to be the worst one by definition.
@@notmee2388 I thought Stallone admitted that 5 was a cash grab (which might be why he did a sixth one)?
4 and 5 are bad.3 is mediocre too.
Yes !!! This is only the beginning…. Rocky is life n love
Such a great movie, as is the sequel.
1976 was 200 years from July 4th, 1776.
200th Anniversary.
Lot of patriotism!!!!
I didn't believed in Sylvester Stallone as actor but when I saw Rocky, Rambo and The Expendables he became in one of my favorite actors. What a legend. Nice reaction
This movie is everything.
Your hair looks so Beautiful A,glad you started reacting to Rocky,Talia Shire during the 80's did some filmaking herself with her late husband Jack Schwartzman. The One i remember was "Rad"(1986) a cheesy but good family film by TaliaFilms
As a man... ROCKY is the greatest love story of all time.
This movie won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing, and no intated for a slew of Oscars in other categories. Some people make fun of Stallone, but they're wrong to do so. This film is awesome
All the Rocky movies are great! Keep on watching
Rocky one of the best characters. So endearing
46:17 prolly gonna be crying in the next few movies as well. Just a warning ;)
Sly should've one the oscar for best actor for this epic performance as he should have for best supporting actor in creed. Both top tier performances. Cant get over it
When the promoter said the poster being wrong did not matter. That was when Rocky realized no one thought he would win. Watch the scene again.Rocky's whole demeanor changes. He got his head punched in by the Heavy weight champ and still noticed her hat was missing.
That was a genuine mistake made by the art department, so the director worked it into the scene.
Yes, the musical score is some of the greatest movie music ever. The tune Philadelphia Morning is still on my playlists.
Keep going with all the sequels, babe. Rocky is one of the best characters in movies.
My favorite is Rocky IV. Been watching it since I was a kid with my father; his favorite was Rocky III.
I don't agree with 'all.' I stopped at Rocky V. But hey, that's my opinion.
@@ronfehr7899 I don't think I've seen anything from the series after Rocky V either.
Balboa and Creeds are great.
@ronfehr7899 I tend to suggest replacing Rocky V with the phrase "and they all lived happily ever after".
You’re in for a wild ride with this series.
That soft piano really brings out the tears, don’t it?
