Bro you literally answered all my questions within 3 minutes. I wasted so much time trying to get the reassurance I knew but wanted clarity. I put you on the top and I follow Fro Knows, Chelsea and Tony Knowsnuthin and more. Literally everything I needed to know in this video about external recorders in under 3 minutes... Thanks man, FOLLOWER SUBSCRIBED SON!
I have a Ninja V which I use with my GH5. My favourite feature is this ProRes recording. The GH5 will record in an excellent 10 bit codec but ProRes is much easier to edit. SSDs are far cheaper than SD cards. I don’t have to transfer the footage I just plug the drives in start editing.
FYI - if you get the Z6 Kit (with Ninja and Moza Air 2 and stuff) - you will need to following to connect the Z6 to the Moza: NIKON Z6-->Micro USB to Type-C Adapter-->M3C-Micro Cable-->CAM CTRL port on Air 2. The CAM CTRL port is on the side of quick release plate, next to 7.4V OUT.
Great vid, the 29 min limit is a tax issue - less than 30 mins video recording = stills camera, oover 30 mins = video camera. Video cameras are taxed higher for import. It's also a great way perhaps for camera manufacturers to segment stills and video cameras?
Kick ass video man. It was very helpful! It's 0.5% chance that i'd comment on a video but i really appreciated this one because you touched on some real-world things i wanted to know and should keep in mind. I will definitely get this item soon
I am a professional photography. I recently purchased a Nikon Z6, what I am curious about is being about to record video while simultaneously when needed recording whats going on in the viewfinder for educational purposes. Will this record my exposure settings and also show whats going on with the focus array?
So I am in the market for a Monitor Recorder, and you are saying that if I hook up this NInja V to my Nikon D850 that the 30 min recording limit is history...I'm sold, thanks bro.
Wow, i had no Idea about those small important details of the Ninja V.. since i have A6500 with 1SD slot. Having the Ninja V as a backup recorder is great and also the point you mentioned about taking the monitor off and having clients look at the footage is also really helpful. These are important small details that often get overlooked.. im currently in the market for my first Monitor, i was looking at the Shinobi but im thinking the Ninja V would be better for the $ cause of those small features you mention.. thanks alot for this video.. but still im just a Hobbiest, dont really have clients so maybe Shinobi is best option till i start getting clients and get real work instead of doing things for fun.. which would u suggest for a Hobbiest?
Hey man, wanted to say you're doin awesome on your channel! I had to say something though just a small critique of this video personal opinion. I got to around 6min 40sec~.....the music man lol I think just turning it down on the levels juuuust a hair would help your voice be more prominent and catch the viewers attention. I really wanted to hear what you had to say but the music was overpowering at times which was distracting. Keep up the great work!
Didn't even know the Shinobi was a thing! I don't need an external recorder due to my camera not having a 30-minute time limit but I do want an external monitor that supports 3D Luts! Thank you for the recommendation!
What compares to that moment of absolute terror, when you hit format: the card from the camera after saving it to a laptop far (miles or months) from any cloud save
Thanks Brandon. I have been watching this product and you have given me the fever for my channel. I’ve lost so much footage for video flaws I didn’t notice until too late and just sick of it. Thanks brother.
I'm going to buy this device. Could you do a simple tutorial how you use the device when you are recording on studio lighting / you tube video studio environment where you have mostly the same lighting, same conditions for every video and would like to get the best sharp image? This is a zero knowledge user. Thank you for so great video!
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but can this also be used on still photographs (not video)? I'm shooting on the EOS R and this could act as a temp solution to the one sd card issue? Would be nice to have that extra security in a backup on certain shoots.
I want to ask you ? Does the Ninja Five screen give a difference to the video shooting of the Sony 6400 or FS5 cameras, and are they compatible with them, or are they for specific cameras, and do you recommend that I have them?
Brandon great review. I just picked up the Shinobi. I will be doing allot of sporting events and sweet 15/16. In testing the monitor I know that It doesn’t have a fan. Would it be upgrading to the Ninja because it has a fan?
dude thank you so damn much, I really like you, I love everything about your personality and energy. thank you so much I searched everywhere for someone to tell me one damn simple thing plainly and in your face. You answered my question of will this atamos allow me to turn my eosr into a dual card slot recorder allowing me to record to the SD and SSD at the same time. Im getting into weddings and I refuse to do a wedding without a backup of all my moments that are not repeatable. So cool I can now go to sleep at 3:35 am because I know I can dual record simultaneously to sd and ssd.
I am just starting my upgrade on my Nikon D750 and I am seriously thinking about Ninja V / V+ for next gen upgrade, can You suggest any ideas or video on HOW to setup the two + external mic etc ?
Hi. I like your reviews. As an owner of a Canon M50 would like to ask You to make a video-guide showing how to use the Ninja V with the M50. Another TH-camrs told me he had problem with audio with M50 and Ninja 2. Also many people speak about other problems (for example that if you connect the Ninja, the M50 monitor goes black and is not possible to check the camera settings). Will be great to have an actualized guide. Tanks
Andrea Turbolz from the info that I got is the Ninja is not compatible with the m50 it needs a clean hdmi output. My question is are there any benefits worth adding the Shanobi to my m50
Verrett Productions Tanks for your gently answer 😁. Did not know Ninja 2 had problems. Good to know 👍🏻. If You have the chance, still hope a review of the M50 with the Ninja V. Tanks 😊
Yes. a6500 is 8bit/4:2:2 hdmi out/up to 30fps/ that also means less compression on the video files. I’m still waiting for Sony to do 10-12bit video, it would be nice.
Also, can u make a Video with Ninja V fan Noise. People say its a issue. I wanna hear how bad it is.. and how fast and often it turn on while recording..
Hi. Great video. Very informative. Some people are saying it really helps them to get better focusing to get those really tack sharps stills. Do you agree ? I’m not really into videos that much. Thanks again.😊

and the comment of the week goes to you sir!
I know it's been a year since you made this video. But, it took me that long to finally get one. Thank you for sharing!

I turned on the video skipped ahead to see what this is about and landed on 2:11 "that's what she said"?

The shinobi is amazing! Got it last week
1 year later, did u regret buying it over a ninja v?
Status update for the guy that just liked my comment, dont buy this over the ninja v it sucks ass
Loving my Ninja V paired with my Z6. I can't wait for the firmware updates for 12bit
That’s going to be sick
Just added one to the bag today. Itll get its first test on set on the 23rd.

How bright is the screen on a sunny day in direct light?
Would it be an impulsive decision to buy one for my 1Dx mkii?
Hi what cage you are using on your sony?
I agree 100 percent, I bought a used one for $400 a year a go, worth the investment
Hey man, wanted to say you're doin awesome on your channel! I had to say something though just a small critique of this video personal opinion. I got to around 6min 40sec~.....the music man lol

Keep up the great work!
Word. I subscribed. Im on a 6500 and need to push it as much as I can for as long as I can before moving up to Full-Frame.
I love the look of your cage/handle and focus ring. Can you provide links to the ones you use?
Is there anyway to connect this monitor without batteries? I mean shit can I connect this to v mount battery? Let me know
hey brandon, can i monitor 120fps 1080p on the atomos shonibi?
is shinobi a recorder or just a monitor . is it possible to record 4 k 30 ?
Didn't even know the Shinobi was a thing! I don't need an external recorder due to my camera not having a 30-minute time limit but I do want an external monitor that supports 3D Luts! Thank you for the recommendation!
Can it shoot in 4:2:2 10 bit ?
what cage and handle bar are you using in the intro video?
What compares to that moment of absolute terror, when you hit format: the card from the camera after saving it to a laptop far (miles or months) from any cloud save
Pretty nice and to the point explanation. Amazing. You explain in my opinion great.
Can this work with yololiv? And if it does, how would you connect it.
Hi can you make a video setting for sony a73 and ninja V? Thanks 😎🙏🏻✌🏻
Thanks Brandon. I have been watching this product and you have given me the fever for my channel. I’ve lost so much footage for video flaws I didn’t notice until too late and just sick of it. Thanks brother.
Great channel Brandon, God bless you brother. My GH5 and Ninja V are inseparable, ha ha!
I'm going to buy this device. I like your vibe bro... wish more of my friends had your energy ha!
how about the battery life? how long will be the battery lasts if I'm recording and if i'm just monitoring?
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but can this also be used on still photographs (not video)? I'm shooting on the EOS R and this could act as a temp solution to the one sd card issue? Would be nice to have that extra security in a backup on certain shoots.
Unfortunately, no. It will not save still photos. (I'm sure you've already figured this out by now.)
If I use this ninja v, can I record in my camera too? at the same time in the ninja v and in my camera?
Great Video, but sure it's possible to write to the XQD card and the external recorder the same time? (write to 2 different types
Have you tried Atomos Ninja V with the M50? How did that work? There is no video about that on TH-cam, if you do one would be a first and a hit!
can you explain how you get more resolution out of the camera with this monitor, i think its wrong???
4k 60fps 10 bit 4:2:2
I want to ask you ? Does the Ninja Five screen give a difference to the video shooting of the Sony 6400 or FS5 cameras, and are they compatible with them, or are they for specific cameras, and do you recommend that I have them?
Yeah, I’m definitely getting one now after seeing your review. Thanks Brandon!
Any time!
Brandon great review. I just picked up the Shinobi. I will be doing allot of sporting events and sweet 15/16. In testing the monitor I know that It doesn’t have a fan. Would it be upgrading to the Ninja because it has a fan?
Ninja generate more heat since its a recoder that need to process data. I dont think you need a fan for just the monitor.
Yes upgrade.
Question which m format lens did you mod for your Sony ? 1:01 in video? Thanks
I really want to get one of these. Can't afford one right now, but one day I will!

First 😁 another killer video, Brandon!
GG lol
Thanks brother!
Nice vid! Would this record pro res raw on Nikon D850?
Hat mate loved the video, would love to see a workflow video. See how you edit using it. Can you carry edit points to FCPX with XML ?
good job bro. i have Ninja V how to get good Audio from that device please......?
Hey Brandon, did you used to go to PGCC before?
could I use this with the gh4?
Of course. It will give you a larger but more edit friendly file, and the image is a bit more saturated. Look at "gh4 atomos" videos on TH-cam.
Can I use this with the original blackmagic pocket cinema and the Panasonic Gh4?
How about audio recording, any good?
Greetings from Jakarta
How to use that Monitor in portrait mode
would this be a good investment using a sony 6400 and canon m50?
What about the lack of 120fps support? I almost bought this but found this out and it stopped me. Is this an Atomos or Sony issue?
Hey!
Nice and helpful video.
I have an issue! How do you record 1080p 60fps from sony a7r III to ninja V?
Hi, can you tell me if atomos shinobi 5" works perfect with canon eos m5 and m6. Thanks alot 🙂
Good monitor/recorder. Useless when it comes to slow motion. Annoying the fact that you can't use it for 120FPS
Great video, helped me pull the trigger, thanks man!
my camera dosent have log by connecting this can i shoot in log
Your backpack is cool
1:58 is this actually the same footage?
Can it be used with an apsc canon DSLR, like a Canon 77d.
Hey Brandon, what Variable ND filter were you using in this video and how does it perform?
Will Atomos record 4:2:2 proRes if the camera (a6500) records 4:2: 0?
Yes. a6500 is 8bit/4:2:2 hdmi out/up to 30fps/ that also means less compression on the video files. I’m still waiting for Sony to do 10-12bit video, it would be nice.
Hello Brandon, hey I have a question, I currently own a sony a6300, will I be able to shoot 4k 60fps with atomos ninja v+a6300?????
Yosuhan Verdecia no
Hey how you can record 2 h if the cámara don’t have that battery life?
Can u record in eos r in fhd???
What attachments do you use to attach the ninja v to your camera I have a cage but want the best way to keep it stable and hooked it up!
How do u record slow mo with it I’m using the a73 with it and it only records in real time it won’t capture the slowest settings
Just ordered a ninja v, thank you 👍
Thanks for concise review.
it's expensive but after watching this video, I'd say it's worth it.
What are you using to mount the screen to the front of the handle at 0:38?
www.smallrig.com/smallrig-dslr-monitor-holder-mount-1842.html
can this work with canon cos m6 mark ii, and do you need to buy a separate cdmi cable or does that come with the camera or atomos? thank you
Also, can u make a Video with Ninja V fan Noise. People say its a issue. I wanna hear how bad it is.. and how fast and often it turn on while recording..
Would you also suggest this to pair a Canon R5C?
I think it’s good for an r5c but now they make a ninja v+ that can support the 8k output.
Which mounting case are you using there to mount the handle and monitor?
I see it. Thanks! Great video!
Can the ninja meet Netflix requirements
Hi. Great video. Very informative. Some people are saying it really helps them to get better focusing to get those really tack sharps stills. Do you agree ? I’m not really into videos that much. Thanks again.😊
I think for still you can trust the camera you don’t need this. If anything I’d go with the Monitor only version
Just ordered the Atmos Ninja V 2 days ago. Do you think it's still good in 2021?
would you recommend shinobi over smallhd for the a7III ?
there is any alternative screen over there in cheap price ?
Do you have trouble with the fan noise?
No but I never use the on camera mic
Does it record 120fps?
How can you playback the footage on the Shinobi? I use a Canon 5D IV. Thanks! :)
Quick question, will you loose the touch to focus feature on a 1dx mkll when you use the atomos ninja v
I heard you do... did you ever get your answer?
Cliff Fennell unfortunately no. didn’t get an answer
Is something like the Atomos Shinibi or Ninja V useful for photography?
Yes
FOG Vans huh? Ok, i see you sir!
Lol
Dude can edit
can i use the Ninja V as a monitor without the ssd?
Yes, but then you might as well get the Shinobi
I mean anyone else trying use this or shinobi with Blackmagic pocket 4k
