Should you buy a Ferrari 360 Modena? | CarCave

  • It doesn't take much for an enthusiast to notice a car like the Ferrari 360. It looks good, many of us grew up idealizing the people that drove them, and then one day, we end up late at night on CarGurus and notice that they cost little more than a second hand BMW M car. For a Ferrari? It is an attractive proposition, but is it too good to be true? Should you even consider buying a supercar that is over two decades old, even if it is a Ferrari.

    good video! congrats. I agree with what you say, as a matter of fact, I bought a manual modena in 2021, sold it in 2022, regretted, and bought another one in 2023 which I still own :D

    Sticky buttons are not that bad to do. There are companies that do it for way cheaper or you can do it yourself with some cleaners. Brakes are 350 a rotor and pads are cheap. If you do it yourself, it is under a 1000 dollars. Almost no one takes their cars to the dealer. There are so many independents that charge 1200 for complete fluids. The shift speed can easily be adjusted for cheap with a TCU module upgrade. The car is very easy to work on as well.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While all of that may be true, the most consistent and relatable data I could get is directly from the dealer.

    Cars like this will be worth double of what the asking price is today in a matter of just a few years.. no matter the mileage. In 20 or 25 years from now, these will be in the millions while the newer all cars (no matter the brand) will be no more than consumable computers on wheels. Buy them while you can AND no regrets to drive them as much as you can. Don't worry about the mileage, worry about dying without the living to the max the thrill and good fortune that 99% of the people in the world can't even simply just dreaming of.

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The older the get, the more I agree with your perspective. Yes, there is more value in a lower mileage car, but honestly, who cars. Drive it, and enjoy it, unless of course you are only buying the car as an investment and don't care about cars.

    Nice Video. I like the 360 spider very much - a problem for older cars is the mechanic of the roof, which is very expensive. At 2.05 it's not a F355 but a 348...

    Damn it TH-cam!! I haven’t seen your videos in forever it seems. Used to watch all the time and then they disappeared from my feed. Yes, I am subbed. Anyways…. I was fully expecting you to end the video with…”and that’s why I bought this very 360!” That thing is gorgeous! The color combo….but a gated 6-speed would be 👌!! How’s the Evo project coming?

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no idea what is going on with TH-cam, nobody is getting my videos, and even if you search CarCave, none of them show up. No clue how to fix it.
      Crazy that you say that because I actually thought to do this video because at one point I was thinking about getting a 360 because they have become so attainable, ultimately, I learned they aren't as attainable as I needed them to be, but being able to review one was still eye-opening.
      Agreed, the color combo was excellent, that was part of the reason I waited so long to do this video, the only 360's I could find that were willing to film were black on black and it lost all of the cars details. A 6-spd I think would have fixed the biggest problem with this car, which for me, was the gearbox. In my mind, the whole point of an automatic is to be faster than a manual, and in the 360, I don't think it is....
      Evo project completely stalled, lol, but hopefully in the new year, things will pick back up?

    • @K1dPhresh1
      @K1dPhresh1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ Yeah, TH-cam is suspect! The 360 was high on my “list” in the early 2000’s. It’s still out of reach 20 years later, at least a comfortable reach. I would love a yellow or red one, but silver over red is wonderful.
      2025!! New beginnings!! Or just pick up where you left off!😂

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yellow is my color on any car, thanks to the Boxster lol. But I was surprised by how much I liked the silver and red combo. If you described it to me over the phone I wouldn't be interested, but seeing it changed that for sure.
      Hopefully sometime in 2025 TH-cam will finally acknowledge that I exist lol.
      Either way, I appreciate the support mate!

    One of my clients has a Euro Spec one in manual! He says maintenance can be from $3k-8k per year depending on how the car wants to treat you that year lol. He loves it though!

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is good to know, so my numbers were in the ballpark then! Having a manual is a forever car, I would imagine it would be much more enjoyable to drive than the F1, just given how long it takes to change gear...

      @@carcaveofficial Great video! I have owned my 360 Modena for nearly 14 years. I have maintained it with independent techs (Factory trained) with exception of the first year when I did take it to Cawley Ferrari in Detroit. Here in Naples Florida, F1 Imports is fantastic and very reasonably priced. They work on F40s if that tells you anything. I can tell you that independent qualified techs are just as good and significantly less expensive than the dealers. My maintenance experience is nowhere near $3 to $8K per year. More like $1,000 for fluids, which I do every year. If you drive them frequently, there are no "gremlins" at least that's my experience. They don't like to sit around. The clutch and belts service are the two most notable expenses at around $3,000 each. I have put nearly 40K miles on my car with no significant issues to speak of. Again, awesome video!! Cheers!

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that is the case with a lot of these sports cars and supercars, driving them makes them far less prone to having issues. Unfortunately, people are more concerned with preserving value.
      Thank you for sharing your experience mate, it is far more valuable than a review of the car over the course of 24 hours!

      @@juliomorales7409 Congrats, 3000 to 8000 Dollar is very realistic. I had my F355 since 2010. The total cost per year (maintenance, repair, tax, insurance, fluids) were 7000 Euro per year average...My mechanic also is free (was official at F-Dealer) and made Ferraris for decades...

    Would u recommend it ? I’m in the neighborhood of buying a c8 or a trackhawk , but for around the same price this looks nicer … idc about performance or speed but more likely as an experience and a symbol of accomplishment cus I own a Ferrari

    • @carcaveofficial
      @carcaveofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, the C8 or trackhawk will be faster, more reliable, cheaper to own, and easier to live with. That being said, I don't think the Ferrari is a car you buy with logic, I think it is one you buy with desire. Having driven it, I am not sold on the transmission, I think I would want more for manual, and with the price of the manual, it would put me in the F430 money. So for me, I probably wouldn't buy a 360, but that isn't to say it isn't a brilliant car. Also, worth bringing up, is the risk. There is too big a gap for my comfort between a clean example and a driven example, that would steer me away as well. Really comes down to personal preference, this is just how I think when considering a car. Idk if that answers your question lol

      @@carcaveofficial Well, it would have been interesting to know how much it costs to insure it for "up to 10,000KMs annually". By the way, here in Switzerland, it's significantly cheaper than in the U.S. How odd... and the average Ferrari owner drives for 5,000+ KMs annually, in Europe.
