    I love your videos. Never stop. I was so scared to get into leatherwork and your videos showed me how easy it is to start with literally a fork and hammer, no need for fancy tools.

    I have one of the cheap, cast iron benchtop "hand press" machines that I use for rivets and grommets. A while back I ordered a machined touch mark off Etsy. It came with a steel rod that screwed into the back of the logo stamp, which is made of brass. It makes fine logos, but it can be hard to get a good stamp with one hit. A second hit will almost always move just enough to give a ghost image.
    I sent the stamp and rod to a machinist buddy of mine, along with a set of rivet dies to use as a template. He cut down the steel rod to fit the threads on the top side of the press, and made a larger base for the bottom to support leather past the edges of the stamp. Now I get a consistently crisp, repeatable logo for the low, low price of making a shift boot for his project car out of some glazed pig skin.

    Thank you for the video. I received an email from BG tonight re the platen die and stamps. It’s great to see them in action. It looks like an affordable way to add monograms to items. Thanks again.

    Very cool... But these have been on the market with other brands for their presses & I've had a set for a couple years--BUT never thought of using it for embossing--that is brilliant!

    I'd say it doesn't replace a clicker press. But it's a handy tool if you didn't have one or didn't have an arbor press. I love my BG hand press but i already have an arbor press. The coolest thing is that they're adding features and functionality with new dies. So while this one may not be for me, I'm 100% behind what they are doing.

    Great idea but….. if the bottom plate was 4 inch square which you have a lot of room for that would be easier to align and give you a more steadier base to hold the leather flat. . That what I did to my arbor press. That just my 2 cents.

      @Corter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's an available base plate as I think I mentioned in the video, I just didn't have it attached to my machine :) It also has guides so you can set it up to do repeat stamps on multiple pieces in the same spot every time

    This might open a lot of possibility for people. Nice work! I’ve never used a press, but wouldn’t it be easier if the embossing stamp just screwed into the press?

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Give it a try! At least for setting hardware its indispensable, first machine I ever bought :)
      It would be but A lot of stamps dont have threads on the back and there isn't a standard threading when they do. If you have a specific threading you could make one yourself and use the bottom of this set to stamp into for sure. You'd have to make a bunch of different sizes that converted to the size of the press threading if you wanted to offer them as a product and then you'd still have to make this set for the stamps that don't have threading otherwise

    I know I'm going to sound dumb, but do you have a chain connected to your arbor press?
    I'm interested in the plates, but having my arbor press set up like that would be great.
    Thanks for any help of direction to where I can view your type of press set up.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't own an arbor press, the machines in the video are both from Buckleguy - they're the hand press and the hand and foot press. The bigger machine I have is set up with the stand and foot press option, it's a fully engineered system and pretty cool if you're in the market! I use it because I've blown both rotator cuffs, so being able to have it in foot press mode avoids some of the repetitive motion issues in my shoulders

    If by a $1500 machine you mean a heated stamp press, then no. Main reason for the heat is to use foil or get a darkened imprint. This is just a blind deboss, which can be done by hand or with a clicker/arbor press

    • @jeffreymilnes6983
      @jeffreymilnes6983 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, you just missed the whole point of what he was talking about. This is for the people who don’t have an arbor press or a clicker. And you could probably emboss with foil, darken imprintif you’re patient, by just heating your stamp manually.

    I'm confused why wouldn't you make it for the arbor press it only cost us 80 bux for a 1 ton and it replaces Many TOOLS i think you should rethink the marketing... Most of us are buying arbor presses because its versatile and affordable..

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think maybe there's a disconnect? An arbor press does this already. The smaller button press from Buckleguy is only $230 I believe, it will be much more useful in leathercraft than an arbor press long term and take up less space in your work area. This tool simply allows you to emboss with it so you don't have to also buy an arbor press

  • @MW-tm3su

    Mmmm seems kind of cheap really, and that you're limited to only 2 letters? I'll stick with my heat embossing stamp machine and getting the stamps (letters, monograms or or logos) CNC'd in brass. Last forever and then I can use heat with or without foil --or just cold like you do here. Why anyone would just use basic boring sans serif letters as their stamp is beyond me --zero creativity.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personal preference really - I don't think it takes a serif to make a font interesting, the opposite for me :) But yes, as I mentioned many times in the video this is an affordable way to add a makers mark or monogram to a piece. Not everyone has or can afford a foil machine and brass alphabets, that's a lot of money to spend and a fairly large footprint to take up in your shop to offer a monogram if you're not doing a bunch of volume.

    • @antonc81
      @antonc81 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Serifs don’t make a typeface more creative. Just like elegant, minimalist designs in any field of design aren’t necessarily easier to create or less creative than ornate designs. Many of the most iconic typefaces and the most revered among typeface nerds are sans serif.

      At 1:48 "this is just an easier solution if you already have one of the presses from Bucklguy". He's not trying tell you to go by a press, he's pointing out a new attachment for people who either already have one, or are considering getting one. If you're a hobbyist, this video probably won't apply to you, if you do this for a living you've probably already got a press. I'll never understand people's need to complain just to hear themselves talk...

    • @calebwhite1999

      The title of the video is quite misleading. Now if he said buy this stamp, and a 100 dollar machinist's arbor press and save 1365 dollars, that would have been nice.
