That's was a relief but very aggravating finding out it was the head gasket. I worked on diesels for for 40 years and your right about the soot and motor oil. That sounds like a horrible job to replace a clutch while they used the pumper truck. Cheers mate
18. Farkenell mate. I'd be in the foetal position. Note to self.. multi layered gaskets to be genuine only. No amount of Hylomar can fix that fault. Hopefully that brand is industry wide acknowledged as a dud, hence forth. Also the Oring seal for the cooler. To answer a question you asked the other day, timing belt not done as yet but it may have been done as the service for it in the book has been signed off on but as it is a low k's engine I will whip the cover off and have a look next week as it is due for it's yearly service. Gotta love Bathurst weekend and the $35 bottles of Castrol 5/30 synthetic deals that come with it @ Supersleep auto lol. Cheers mate.
Bummer by after all the labor to get to it and replace not good..like the story on why you do not like Diesels I have have issues with concrete dust. I have the same feeling about liver, my mom use to try cook it when i was at school then slip in and say it chop steak.. She finally stopped doing that , it was getting old cleaning up the mess on the floor.
I hate all this imported shit, just put a nice Lunati voodoo cam and lifters, Edelbrock heads and roller rockers on the 327 in the impala. I don't know how they can even sell this junk here . I really feel sorry for you mate , this imported junk upsets me too much. Have a good weekend mate and enjoy the Chevy.
wow,, that's a lot of extra work. I think Subaru says the laminated metal gaskets are best,, maybe in their case they are but not on the car you are working on.
If you've been watching i usually put permatex 3J on the the gaskets but not on ones work has to warrant.(gasket makers recommend no sealant)...I recon that would have stopped the leak...Cheers mate.
@@ziggassedup yeh ive seen that info on gasket leaflets, one thing my old boss used to use funnily enough was the white loctite hydraulic thread sealant hed put a smear if he had no other sealant, he was an engine rebuilder and a mechanical engineer yet he liked being hands on , he once worked for yella terra.
If the oil in the radiator is milky like chocolate then it's time to change the oil cooler...If the oil in the radiator is more a reddish colour then the radiator is leaking transmission oil onto the cooling system and that means a new radiator...Caution.!..All the hoses will get really soft so you'll want to change all of those too..Cheers..
@@ziggassedup hi, thanks for answering, I am far away in the map in a country named Honduras, am a mecanic and yeah the oil coming to the radiator is milky, it comes up like a little bubble, when the car is cold, there is no oil coming up the radiator, but passing 80 celsius the oil drop start to como out to the radiator cap, do you think is the cooler?
Good job what a shame the top of the block looked really nice and solid and clean the machining looks mickey mouse just a shithouse gasket I suppose.....

At least I'm getting paid for the labour...My mum did the same but only once..lol..Cheers mate.
I have my suspicions as to the country of origin of the crappy head gasket. Probably going to be seeing more of those
I hope not Ron.
