      Can you talk some about the main ingredients lists in a few popular but expensive natural hair products in an epsisode? What makes them so expensive? Like are the 20 sum dollars for a leave in at the beauty supply products worth it? What's cetearyl alcohol and why is it always like the second or third ingredient no matter the product? Isn't alcohol drying? What about the other super common science stuff in all products like phenoxyethanol? Thanks science lady!

    1. Raised Cuticles (a. less heat + heat protectant, b. comb/brush gently, c. always use pre-poo)
    2. Product build-up
    3. Not detangling enough
    4. Drying ingredients in shampoos and other products
    5. Sunlight's UV rays
    Thank you for the tips!
    p.s. to answer the final question, trimming when needed, wearing a bonnet every night, and finding the best shampoo to cleanse away all previous products has helped me so much with retaining moisture between wash days each week.

    I’ve been detangling my hair for 20 years and I was making some huge mistakes like detangling dry hair, and thinking that it was normal to have two handfuls full of hair, and the best thing that I’ve discovered is wetting my hair all the way 100% and adding conditioner, a lot of conditioner and like she said work it in working it in with your hands really good and then taking a wide paddle brush one of those flexible brushes that flex those are the best and then detangling from the end gently up in small sections and I notice I barely have any shedding and definitely using sulfate free you know natural products which are easily accessible at that at the hair stores today

    The best moisturizer I have used is made by "nowIamnappy", which is also the name of her channel. She is a chemist on TH-cam. Her moisturizer keeps my hair moisturized from wash day to wash day, without having to add anything to my hair in between wash days. It is called Hibiscus & Chebe Moisturizing Styler. I use the leave-in conditioner that goes with it called Hibiscus & Chebe Leave-in Conditioner. Those two products works wonders on my hair. I can hardly wait for her, to bring her deep conditioner out, for that product line. Until she make the deep condition I will continue to use her Oat and Aloe deep condition, which is so good to my hair. The Oat and Aloe line is finish, but I have only used the leave-in and deep conditioners in that line. Her gloss bars melts my hair. I use those treats, when I don't deep condition my hair. I am not sure what kind of magic she is putting in her products but they work magic on my hair.

I never gave much thought to how habits like the way I detangle my hair could impact its hydration level. TY CC! Always great content. I absolutely have much better results with the "prepoo," but I was born in the 70s, so we call it hot oil treatments. I heat the pile slightly - coconut, avocado, and olive- apply thru hair, cover with plastic cap for as long as I can, usually hours, then wash, apply an Ayurveda mask, and leave -in. My hair doesn't like gels, or anything that holds curls. It dries out my care so badly

    Currently my hair is dry because I can't get the products needed. I use the PLOC method (pre-poo, liquid, oil, cream). I created my own hair oil which I used for both pre-pooing and oiling my hair. I love the African Pride oil Moisturizer and natural shea butter. I seal everything in with beeswax. In between wash days, just the moisturizer and oil.

      What shampoo are you using? Do you have hard water? What is your porosity and do you use a lot of heavy products? Also what deep condtioner and leave in conditioner/styler/sealant do you use after the shampoo? Yes all these things decide how your hair will react to shampoo/cleansers. I have high porosity hair naturally and chemically and I can shampoo weekly with no adverse effects. I don't use a harsh sulfate-clarifying or chelating shampoo every week though!

    I have recently started banding my twists and I find that im retaining a lot of moisture. At first i wasnt going right down to my ends, so when i opened for a twist out and to wash, the ends were noticeably dryer than the strands. So niw im trying to band right doen to my ends. How i know my moisture retention levels have increased is because on wash day I'm using less prepoo (seamoss gel) and by entension less product and my hair feels very manageable and less tangles or fairy knots

    I just don’t understand in todays time people always say lay off the heat! Im 1970 baby. I had a whole lotta hair down my back . At the age of 13 my mom started pressing my hair she did hair any way. She never damage my hair my hair kept growing when it got to my butt she would cut it some. My hair never got damaged. And here I am on social media listening to people saying stay off the heat! Not any more I’m doing what my moma did! I didn’t loose no curl pattern of hair damage and they used some kind of wax on our hair to press it if I see it I will remember that jar! And gone start buying it again. My hair got pressed 2 times a month me and my sisters hair was very long. So I’m doing me from here on out . I’m having fun with my hair straight I do curls roller sets rod sets it very pretty and I like it that way. And I use the heatless head band curler. My hair loves it. Well anyway to each it’s on. I plan on doing a short video when I do a fresh flat iron and use my heatless headband curler curls be popping 😊

      I don't put water on my hair unless I'm washing it. Otherwise, like you, I end up with crunchy, dry, brittle, frizzy hair. It doesn't matter if I apply oil to seal in the moisture, it still dries out, but with a layer of oil on top. Water between shampooing is my enemy. So far coconut oil works but I'm still exploring other products. Water and watery products don't work on all hair.

      Um how often do you shampoo you hair? I use mainly moisturizing gentle shampoos. The harsh clarifying chelating shampoo I use once every 4 to 6 weeks or more! Don't be clarifying your hair every week especially if you suffer from dry hair!! I definitely cannot use any old shampoo. All of my shampoos have a specific purpose because if I get it wrong my hair will fall out of my scalp and/or break off. Some people can use any shampoo but I am not one of those people.

    My hair feels soft, but looks dry!! I have been doing lco method, and my porosity has changed now. I’m now high porosity. I have colored hair and a bit of gray hair.
    Any tips or advice?

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have naturally high porosity hair. I moisturize my hair with leave-in detangler, leave-in mist, and leave-in cream conditioner daily. I use the mist in the morning so it doesn't take long to dry and the heavier cream and detangler at night. I also have coloured hair. I keep my hair wrapped up 5 days out of 7 and I shampoo and deep condition every week. You need to moisture train your hair for maximum hydration in its moisture cycle. I can skip a say in summer of moisturizing but never in winter. I don't use oil or butter because there's no need to seal anything if I know I'm going to be moisturizing again within 24 hours. That's what works for me and stops my hair from drying out. Even when I have braids or flat twists in I still moisturise I use a braid spray instead to saturate the braids/twists.

    HI, is it ok to combine moisturizer & oil (cocktail ing)instead of layering.

      @marleyhill34 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes if your hair and scalp responds well to it. My hair loves oil but my scalp hates it so no cocktailing oils and butters for me...they go on the very ends of my hair in winter only.

      You might be having an allergic reaction to a product that was what happened/happens to my crown area. Everything she said applies to the crown also. I no longer use oils and butters on my scalp as that made it worst. i went to a trichologist and they gave me a scalp mist.

      Clarifying is to shampooing what deep conditioning is to conditioning

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      shampoo is what you use to remove something from the hair and scalp to cleanse it. A moisturising shampoo will remove dirt, sebum, lint and product build up. A protein shampoo will remove the same as a moisturising shampoo but add in protein. A clarfiying shampoo will remove heavy product build up, dirt, lint, sebum, dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, flakes and dandruff. A chelating shampoo with remove pollution, certain medications and hard water minerals and chlorine.

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shan1xxx ah clarifying ingredients. definitely sulfates and things like clay, charcoal, applecider vinegar, baking soda tea trea, citric acid aka lemon juice etc. They usually do not have oils and butters and emollients added. And they are usually a thin clear liquid instead of a milk thick consistency. they can also have skin cleaning ingredients like AHAs and BHAs. eg. salicylic acid.
