I am headed to the auto parts store NOW to buy a fuel filter for my '05 Buick Century. Thanks for this video -- it shows how easy it is to do the work myself. I love that the Buick Century is a grandma car. Nobody steals grandma cars. I have never locked the doors of my Buick Century wherever I have parked it. I bought a NEW '03 Buick Century as my first choice for a vehicle at age 30 and I even referred to it as a grandma car to the salesman when I bought it, since he seemed surprised that I was interested in it. I got 15 years of trouble-free driving from my '03 -- the only parts that failed over the years were the front wheel bearings and the front anti-sway bar. Rust from road salt is what killed my '03 -- the rear trailing arms rusted away. Now I am second owner of an '05 Buick Century that cost me $1400 to buy. It needs a fuel filter today, and will soon need an exhaust pipe and new tires, but runs great and I have no complaints. It will be the last car I ever own with bench seats, and I will be very sad the day I have to replace it. In fact, my Buick Century has saved me several hotel bills over the years when traveling -- because the rear seat is nearly flat, it is very comfortable for sleeping, so I often plan my long trips with sleeping in the car part of the plan.
@@antoniogriffin7135hell yeah. I took the back seat and the barrier between the trunk out of mine and built a wood crate like thing where the back seat was. But I basically have open space from right behind the front seats to the very back of the car/trunk. I can carry things that are almost as long as the car itself by setting the boards or whatever on the dash and having them go straight through to the trunk. It's pretty neat. Paid $200 for the car with 109,000 on it. Guy thought it was done for cause he had run off the road, but it just pushed the liner in the wheel well up into the belts/pulleys and was making this horrible noise. Charged battery, changed oil before I even started it, pulled that liner out, fired it up and drove it home. Almost 150,000 now. I LOVE this car. I have two other, newer cars. And I prefer the century. It's also bulletproof.....I have bounced this car off so much shit without any effect. I have been in four wrecks with it, two my fault, two not. Two of the wrecks hitting the same exact spot. Other modern cars were destroyed. I drove away from all four wrecks. The most I had to do to fix after was replace a wheel and rewire some wiring that got torn. Wheel bearing did go out. Replaced it with the cheapest one I could find on Amazon.....all five sruds broke off going down the hughway and my wheel came off and passed me....... replaced it with an OEM one. Been all good. Also had to do the harmonic balancer but I think that was because the off roading. Oh, and I replaced those annoying screw battery terminals with the oost type. I was having all kinds of problems I tracked down to being a loose battery and after endlessly messing, I couldn't ever get those screw types torqued down right, I think mine were cross threaded and partially stripped. The post type adapters and battery helped alOt. A fan relay went out, I wired it up with a switch for awhile and then used a fuse tap on a switched fuse and ran it to pin 87 for the fan, and no whenever the ignition is on, the fan is on, and the reverse. Runs at the one third point on the temp gauge. I dont know why i love the car so much. It's also way faster than it has any business being for what it is.
the price of cara are too expenajve and too muxh electronic..Buy a good old used car and make the small repairs yourself...save lots of money. Change your own oil or go Walmart. Jifft Lube is the worst. Over $130 for an oil change. Let them go out of business

I've been driving my 01 Century for 6 years now and am just now having to replace break lines, control arms, transmission and fuel filler neck mostly due to rust. Regardless I love the car and honestly don't want to get a newer one unless it's another Buick

Not only grandmas drive them. I'm 35 and drive a loaded '04 as a second car. I like it but I have been a Buick fan for years and this is the 7th Buick I've owned (first Century). I got my first a 1999 Park Avenue when I was 20. My great grandma bought an '03 Century new off the show room floor and my cousin drove it up until a few years ago long after grandma had to quit driving and then later passed away. I have been having an issue with mine where it has poor acceleration and a slight misfire/sputter at speeds of about 55-65. I think I am going to do a Seafoam treatment in the crankcase and gas tank and then try this and see if it makes any difference. Thanks, I hope it fixes my problem as I don't have money to spend on it right now! BTW, you must live in the South. Here in Indiana the only Centuries with rockers and under bodies that clean have about 20K on them and weren't driven in the winter. Mine already had the rockers replaced and painted before I bought it but they are starting to rust slightly again (they didn't do the best job). I hate to think what my bracket will look like if I can even get it off! I'd like to have the rockers repaired properly but again I just don't have the funds right now. I hope I can get to them before they get to bad.
Make sure that the key is off or the fuel pump will spay gas when you unhook the lines. Open the gas tank to let the pressure off , it will help from spraying when you loosen the lines.
I did like the video. And it also saved my loads of time trying to work around my jack. I saw you had yours well and forward of the spot you were working.
Hint: To reduce gas leakage/drips, first remove fuel pump relay from box under the hood on passenger side (see diagram on inside of cover. Then crank the engine and let it run until it stops from lack of fuel. This will drain most gas and minimize leakage. Don't forget to replace relay after replacing filter.
2 things, One is that I drive one of these cars but to be fair I bought it from my grandmother. The second is that I just purchased a filter and it was $22 for a GM OEM.
I just replaced mine, and I can't get it to NOT leak from the metal fuel line side. Took it off like 4 times, and I'm not sure if it is a bad filter, or if the line needs to be reflared or what. Getting frustrated, so I called it a night. But yeah, it just sprays it out like crazy, and it didn't do that with the original filter. *sigh*
mydejavooo there’s a couple things you can do, first remove the new filter, then clean and check closely for a damaged, split or broken end on the metal fuel line. If it’s damaged, get a long rubber fuel line that will extend past the damaged part and clamp it securely so that the damaged part is covered between the two clamps. If the fuel line is not damaged, try putting two clamps on there, be certain to use new clamps. Hope this helps, good luck!
I own two of those cars exact same one you have and a 99 blue my mom drives the 99 blue I drive the 2001 tan and when I maintenance them I do it back to back I borrowed my mom's car one time and said I liked it and bought the exact same car
The first thing you do is start the car. You pull the fuse for the fuel pump and you pull it while running the engine. This kills the pressure in the line and shuts the engine down. You then remove your fuel cap. Then you do what he does and by doing this fuel will not shoot out all over because you took the pressure out of the line. Also, sparks? You need to be damn careful with your wrenches. Place a thin cloth into your wrench to remove the nuts. To avoid sparks which can cause a fire. Safety glasses too? Cheers!
Keep in mind to check to see if the holes with the plastic clamp is just loose before you go messing around with all those rusted rotted out parts May save you a bunch of money.

Been drivin my 98 for 6 years now and love it still. Saves me from putting miles on my truck and the repairs are easy and cheap. Love my gma buick.
