I was thinking the same thing. Any business owner that's not an idiot is going to put better things into a box they know that people are going to be opening it on a popular channel. Also full disclosure, Price Charting is not a super reliable site. Their values are done using averages and algorithms dependent on how sellers write up their item descriptions. If it's missing the manual and the listing doesn't call that out, the VGPC algorithm is going to treat it as a complete copy. Looking at Ebay's available and sold listings is going to give you a significantly better idea of worth. Additionally, you need to take shipping prices with a grain of salt. If you were to buy all of these at their individual shipped prices, that's different than if you got one box full of all the items shipped to you at once. Basically, if you're going to pay 3-5 bucks per item for shipping on 5 games, that's 15-25 dollars of your value being taken up on individual shipping. Maybe that's nitpicky, but some of these things you'd actually get for cheaper going into a used game place or a pawn shop.
Yeah. It's pretty suspect when you know they are about to post it up on their video. I've seen many lesser known TH-camrs get absolute crap from their box "hauls." It's a scam service to get rid of crappy titles they have amassed.
A lot of people who say "i got this for free" got "good boxes" but when you look at pulls from people who paid for it, they talk about how bad they are.

I have this subscription box and yeah you pay about $43 with shipping and get about $20-$25 value. I'm sure they got good items and good ways to target specific systems and all that, but there's just a ton of better ways to spend that money. Oh and I also forgot to mention rarity. Most of the titles he got are so common you can pick em up almost anywhere a retro game could be sold. Things like Gears and Bioshock are so dirt common they are almost not worth picking up outside a lot of multiple games. Even the Famicom stuff is so cheap that a quick eBay search will get you the title for way less effort. Theres great information in this video about price charting and authentic seals, but as for the loot service, it's just a wash.

@@reggiesmattress2814 based on what he said I'm sure you can customize it to an extent, but yeah he totals the values but doesn't take into that the 360 and PS3 games are worthless for the most part. Besides, they aren't even the only retro game blind box service
This is collecting for the people too lazy to just order stuff they want. Instead, let's just spend $40 to have someone send me semi random common games (and accessories) I might not even be interested in.
Zach Becker honestly I think people are kinda dumb for subscribing to these. Yes, you may get “good deal” every 36 months, but my god is it a waste. Just simply order the games you want on eBay/amazon or just go to a local game store. Sorry, but I’m still surprised these subscription boxes are still around, I would of thought more people would realize that it’s garbage and a waste of time and money. This is probably one of Drew’s worst videos imo. Even if he “didn’t know,” you should still not say you’re a youtube cause the company will send them good stuff to make them look good. It’s sooo obvious. Many normal people who have had the subscription has said it’s decent at best and a huge waste of money at the worst. Drew should of also included shipping, which comes out to be around $42. Drew gives some nice information, but for the most part he wasn’t very informed on it and should of gone in anonymously to get the actual experience.
Is it just me or is there a small delay on the audio and video? Every time it jump cuts. Which is a lot it seems like they bump and it’s very distracting. I could be wrong but that’s what I see
Wasn't really worth the money that much though. Only $2 average and not all the games were on his wishlist. If you buy them separately it's definitely worth it since you'd get games your interested in.
Naw, it's VERY obvious these boxes were loaded this way specifically, since this was for review. I've seen TONS of other TH-camrs with these and they were all garbage. What a coincidence that you have a discount code, too. Sad to see this type of stuff on this channel.
Are you affiliate with them or not? You have a promo code, and you receive products from them in exchange of a promotion. Also, if they payed attention to your demands, it's because they know that you're a youtuber making a video on them.
@@ZachAttackIsBack If he was getting paid, he would, by law, have to disclose it. There is a legal difference in the US, where Drew is from, between "#sponsored" and "#freeproduct".

I actually really enjoy these boxes. I put value on the surprise every month. Its so much fun opening up the boxes. I unbox video games monthly and retro game treasure if you want to check out what a normal person gets, that has to pay.
You can you just have to fall back on experience to make good judgments and always say what's good and bad. Also, make sure you don't overvalue the sent Item and have a reputation of not being overly nice to people who gave you the item to review. Basically, Nintendrew is fine but a new channel could ruin their reputation quickly. I also know this as I get games from Devs so I can show off tons of games and not have to leave out some of them as I would run out of budget. Which no one has questioned me on it and still ask me is the games I play worth it and value my opinion on them. With the devs for the most put noting what I said was negative and changing it if truly needed.
I’m not a collector but I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts as you opened these! I don’t think “average value” makes it worth it, especially since they can basically throw anything in that you don’t have. But especially for a collector like you, I still liked seeing your thoughts on things like this!
I went onto Retro Game Treasure's website after seeing this, and they talked about how they will never put in "bad games". There was a list of these "bad games" such as 'Superman 64' and 'Shaq Fu', but there was no 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' on the list. That means that you have a chance of getting one of the worst games of all time in your box. Damn
They have a April Fool's giveaway every year and you can sign up to try to win a box of ShaqFu, Jekyll, Superman, etc. Some people really dig having those bad games in their collection.
holup.. Nintendrew...tell me you did not just say you've never seen The Goonies before!?? Thats gonna be the most frequent comment you get. Do yourself a service my man. Watch that flick.
@@kbramlett6877 Well you certainly have the utmost respect from me :) EDIT---- wait.. shit.. do we need to do a go fund me for Nintendrew to see this movie? i'll just buy it for him if he likes this post
I was in utter shock when he said he hasn't seen it! I was so certain that everyone his age has seen it! It's just one of those best of 1980s classics!
Nintendrew, I normally just avoid subscription box’s, they’re a waste of money in my opinion. Also, can you please do a Top 5 Rarest Wii Games? I would immediately watch it if it ever happens.
NO! They cancelled my subscription because I refused to add a third console to my preferences (they only require 2 when you subscribe in the first place) They wanted ME to help them scrape the bottom of the barrel for them.
Don't, they loaded his box because they knew who he was, so this was a chance for them to advertise and lie. If you look at videos where people actually paid, it's not a good service, mostly junk and you're not guaranteed something on your wishlist
Drew, I was shocked when you said that you have never seen The Goonies. Please take 2 hours out of your day and watch this iconic film. You will love it the first time and you will want to watch it again and again. It never gets old and you will always laugh your butt off each time you do.
First off, you need to watch The Goonies, what have you been doing your whole life? Something to consider is this is a service looking to help you complete your collection, they are doing the work for you and that's definitely a value by itself.
I did this for two years, some boxes were fantastic and had games I’ve never seen locally. Other boxes had nothing but loose discs and when I went to ebay to track down a case with no game just to find complete copies for less than $5 shipped. Several times they sent games that I checked off on their checklists and rarely got more than 3 games unless I got a double the previous month. It’s fun and exciting to get a box of games every month but you will have a better time tracking down good games on eBay.
If I had that subscription I would be happy as long as it is with in a couple dollors in range. In the end of the day you have something to add to you're collection!
If you click with details on pricecharting, you can choose if you have the manual or not and it will effect the price, although sometimes it ends up being worth more somehow.
@@laakeacreeperyt5821 What I mean by what I said is that I am just a regular guy, not a youtuber who is going to give them advertisement like Drew is. I don't believe he got a real experience with the company like I did. I don't expect anything for free. I do, however, expect to get my money's worth when I pay for something.
Timothy Wintle wow. This is why I’m so hesitant to subscribe. I just usually go to my local game store and buy what i want there or just do a quick search on eBay
I think that even if the average was below a bit, I would take into account that it has a convenience to it because its a subscription so as long as it was still somewhat close I would say it would still be worth it
I've been subscribed to them for awhile. The wishlist doesn't help greatly, but they aren't sending me anything in my collection. The convince and excitement of not knowing what you're gonna get easily pays for some it if the video games don't match $35. Overall been worth it so far.
I think as long as the value of the games sent gets kinda close to the cost of the box, then the difference in price paid versus value can be chalked up to the curation process of putting that box together for you, the convenience of getting them at home and the shipping cost.
This was a really interesting look at this type of service. My only hesitation is that I tend to prefer quality over quantity, and that doesn't seem to be the case with this. I'd rather drop $35 on a single game, or more, than spread it out over several games that are really common and not that good. After all, a collector is always most proud of their rarest pieces, right? Not to mention, it feels like it takes away the fun of shopping for it for yourself and that sense of discovery you feel when you come across something good. So, honestly, I'd prefer to save my money and be able to put it towards pieces that I specifically want.
These boxes are novel like a lot of subscription boxes now but time passes and the novelty wears off. I honestly wouldn’t spend my money on this but all in all glad to see Nintendrew content. Reviews are detailed and honest, keep up the good work and stay safe.
Dear nintendrew my name is alex i am 14 years old and i am a retro games collector and i have been searching for a video/website to cover these as well as you thank you i will buy these box’s and my collection will keep growing again thank you and keep making great content
Thank god i'm not the only one who feels this way. I ordered one box and I got bayou billy, sonic spinball, tiger woods 06, nwo revenge and jungle book for the original gameboy. when I contacted them about getting a trash box, they told me i had to refine my choices. keep in mind i had refined my choices already and put in a wish list with a ton of games.
Very good that you tested several boxes. I remember when here in germany the first(?) Box was availible some YT guys got a Box for Promotion, but it wasn't representative for the subscriptionbox because the value and the game condition were pretty different. 👍
You can select if the manual is included or not :D you just have to put it in a list/collection. You can also just collect the manual without the game/case
Even when the boxes were lower than $35 you still have to consider the fact that you aren't taking the time to go and shop for them. I can see this service being worth it if I got a value of $30 per box. But I always wondered about these boxes and if they are worth it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I had them for 4 months, most expensive game I got was about $12, everything else was usually between $1-$5, most boxes were around $20-$25 according to price charting
An interesting look at these kinds of subscription boxes, to be honest I assumed something like these existed but never checked them out before! Lots of opinions here, but I think these subscriptions would be great for building a collection passively, especially when you’re first starting out and/or are not super concerned with “bigger” titles and stuff.
Since they do personalize it specifically to each person I would say that this is definitely worth the value. I would like to have seen some stickers or game posters in the box related to the games you recieved but that's about it.
Nintendrew they gave you product to review for free that by very definition is a sponsor. They paid for cost of the production of the video while you can think little of the amout you saved. That doesn't make it not a sponsor.
Besides the thrill of getting random games, (which I get cause I like that), I’d just rather pick out the games I want to buy. Especially since you rarely get full $35 value. It’s a good concept though if executed properly
Donkey Kong Country Returns is awesome! Mirror mode is really hard, though, so I still gotta finish that one day. The value you get out of such boxes is of course different than what you pay for them.
tbh i got only one of these once and i got a crappy ps2 and a crappy wii game but i also got a legitimate version of pokemon pearl for the ds the box cost me 40 bucks which at the time pokemon pearl was going for at least for the most part so i got rid of the other 2 games and kept pearl plus i got a cool little treasure chest i keep my pokemon game collection in it they are my treasures
IMO, Mystery game box subscription services are okay for those people who don’t have a retro game store in their area or suffer from agoraphobia. Personally, I’d rather support my local game store(s) by walking in with $35 and having them help me pick out games I might like.
I wouldn't ding them for coming in a little under the $35 price, because you're not accounting for shipping costs and anything other kind of overhead costs. That they got anywhere near the price they're charging is pretty impressive.
So I signed up for this service after watching this video and they shipped my first box on July 17th. I am still waiting for it and as of this post it is Aug the 5th. I feel like the shipper has lost my box 😢
Appreciate the video. I honestly wasn’t aware of a monthly subscription service for retro games. Would of been nice to see more cartridge based titles. I’m curious how well these titles are tailored to your personal preferences. Maybe a quick follow up vid after you give the games a shot?
There's two versions of Atlantis and one is really rare and worth a bunch. Most will say there's a difference in the labels but the rare version can have both variations. The games are basically identical except the font on the rare one is more plain looking and the common one has a "fancier" look to the font.
To any retro collector out there, even this video being "on target" is not so on target when you want to find retro games to collect. They may send you good items, but most of the time it's going to be a bargain bin item. You're better off searching for individual games on ebay or mercari. Also, as a retro collector and price charter myself, you don't go to Price Charting. Many games are lower in price, while some of the more rare titles can be way more expensive. Just search through the seller sites to find the actual pricing of each individual game.
Ninja Hattori-kun is a series by the same guy that made Doraemon (it has even made cameos in merchandise in episodes from the 90s series). It follows the same basic premise: a dumb boy with glasses, in love with the prettiest girl in class, becomes involved in a lot of trouble and has his blue friend, that's crashing in his house, uses his DeM powers to solve things. The boy is less insufferable than Nobita, and instead of a pair of bullies and an intelligent, honest, hardworking guy as nemesis, he gets a rival character that messes with him 50% because of the girl and 50% because he's a covert ninja from the faction that's enemies with Hattori (the blue ninja).
Ah-ha! Drew, I spotted your Pac-Man art print on the wall behind you. I recognize that as a design by Rusty Shackles -- great artist! Did you pick that up yourself at a convention you attended? I have several of his game-themed prints framed in my studio and they appear in several of my videos. Good taste, my man!
Drew, I'm pretty sure they made these boxes with more care than they would because they knew they were going to a TH-camr with a big audience.
Right. At that point you can still make a video, but trying to put "value" on them then is moot.
While that's definitely a possibility there where quite a few duds in there worth very little

@@reggiesmattress2814 based on what he said I'm sure you can customize it to an extent, but yeah he totals the values but doesn't take into that the 360 and PS3 games are worthless for the most part. And one of the boxes he only got 3 items, instead of 4. It just seems like it could be a fun little novelty, but I don't think it's worth the money.
I'd be curious to see him pay for 4 months, and have it shipped to a friend's address (so they can't tell it's him). See if there's any difference.
Watch the vids MadLittlePixel made on these. They’re trash sadly.
They obviously loaded these boxes specifically because they were for a channel. It’s quite obvious but it’s great for Drew.
Reagan Dow I agree, I’m happy Drew got his money’s worth, as well as the games he asked for. Unfortunately it’s not the same story for everyone
@@ClownNaround Definitely. I subscribed for six months and I didn't get a single game I actually wanted.
Wolfgang Fegelein any good games at least? Worth your money, or in value? Or was it trading shoes for dirt in your case?
guy sees the shit in these boxes (trash, awful condition....). has 4-5 videos about them
what is wrong with that dude? :D
-Me: Expecting to see a comparison between various different gaming boxes subscriptions.
-Drew: Here's 4 boxes from the very same website.
Is it just me or is there a small delay on the audio and video? Every time it jump cuts. Which is a lot it seems like they bump and it’s very distracting. I could be wrong but that’s what I see
I see it too the audio isn’t lined up with the video In a couple of parts
Same. I thought I was going crazy lol.

Should've watched the video first!
Wasn't really worth the money that much though. Only $2 average and not all the games were on his wishlist. If you buy them separately it's definitely worth it since you'd get games your interested in.

It's only worth the money if they know you're a content creator.

Naw, it's VERY obvious these boxes were loaded this way specifically, since this was for review. I've seen TONS of other TH-camrs with these and they were all garbage. What a coincidence that you have a discount code, too. Sad to see this type of stuff on this channel.
His boxes were rigged for sure...
@@StageRight123 yeah they were so bad, me in the future can kill the company itself,LITTERALLY

Okay, Mr. Lawyer, but this sure did feel like an ad. @@itskdog he still makes money from the affiliate link, so he does have a financial reason to promote this product, which he does not legally have to disclose
Nintendrew’s videos are basically monthly subscriptions 😂
Just not always monthly
Content is hard to make, but when it's made, it's always a treat!
JeremySheer no he doesn’t. I see you liked your own comment.
I do agree
I love how he called them out for re-sealing DKC Returns
I actually really enjoy these boxes. I put value on the surprise every month. Its so much fun opening up the boxes. I unbox video games monthly and retro game treasure if you want to check out what a normal person gets, that has to pay.
Lol I’m here 2 years later:)
I still can't get over the fact that those glasses are fake.
Even if they WERE worth it, can you properly value it when they purposely sent you these for free?
You know they loaded these for you right Drew?If I did this I would get garbage
Of course he knows. But he has to do the infocommercial as believable as possible I guess
holup.. Nintendrew...tell me you did not just say you've never seen The Goonies before!?? Thats gonna be the most frequent comment you get. Do yourself a service my man. Watch that flick.
I too agree that it blew me away when he said that he has never seen the Goonies. In my opinion it is one of the most iconic movies ever made.
@@kbramlett6877 Well you certainly have the utmost respect from me :) EDIT---- wait.. shit.. do we need to do a go fund me for Nintendrew to see this movie? i'll just buy it for him if he likes this post
Yeah that was almost as bad as him saying hey guys this product I am reviewing was given for free but NOT A SPONSOR
I was in utter shock when he said he hasn't seen it! I was so certain that everyone his age has seen it! It's just one of those best of 1980s classics!
Controversial opinion:
Whilst I like The Goonies, we all know E.T. is better.
How have you not played DKCR?!?! I didn’t play the Wii version but I played the 3D remake on the 3DS
That game is hard lol, specially on the 3ds
Elliot have balls of steel and the might of a monk
I've only played the first Donkey Kong Country. Wanna roast me?
DKCR on the Wii was one of the first console games that I've played
We’ve missed you so much. You haven posted for over a month

I've missed you guys, too!

You are right
Nintendrew, I normally just avoid subscription box’s, they’re a waste of money in my opinion. Also, can you please do a Top 5 Rarest Wii Games? I would immediately watch it if it ever happens.
Dude i remember when you had 3k subs.... now its 300k!!! Congrats man!
NO! They cancelled my subscription because I refused to add a third console to my preferences (they only require 2 when you subscribe in the first place) They wanted ME to help them scrape the bottom of the barrel for them.
I think it is great for impulse buyers, allowing us to get a reasonable amount of games for cheap / month
Thanks weird al
Or he might just think it's a typical '80s kids movie because he didn't watch it when he was a child..?
Do more of these, theses are fantastic and enjoyable and i would live to see the others and how they stack up with this one
Also, the best way to check current pricing for gaming has always been sold ebay listings. Price charting doesn't always update on time.
Hope everything is good, Drew. Haven’t seen anything from you in a couple months.
Miss your stuff!
Their doing fine on there Twitter they say he is just are taking some time to himself
First off, you need to watch The Goonies, what have you been doing your whole life?
Something to consider is this is a service looking to help you complete your collection, they are doing the work for you and that's definitely a value by itself.
You've never seen the movie The Goonies?
Never seen The Goonies = unsubscribe... just kidding, but seriously you need to watch The Goonies
When the world needed him most he vanished
Dude, that's MRGSTAR321's picture, another TH-camr but he stopped making videos somewhere in 2018.
Avatar reference ;)
He’s back now
If I had that subscription I would be happy as long as it is with in a couple dollors in range. In the end of the day you have something to add to you're collection!
I miss nintendrew ☹️🥺
If you click with details on pricecharting, you can choose if you have the manual or not and it will effect the price, although sometimes it ends up being worth more somehow.
bro this video was so entertaining. usually i dont watch stuff like this cuz i get bored but this was really entertaining
Thank you! Anything in particular you liked or want to see more of?
@@Nintendrew not really sure what in particular, but i liked this format

Timothy Wintle do you really expect to get retro games for free?
@@laakeacreeperyt5821 What I mean by what I said is that I am just a regular guy, not a youtuber who is going to give them advertisement like Drew is. I don't believe he got a real experience with the company like I did. I don't expect anything for free. I do, however, expect to get my money's worth when I pay for something.
what are some examples of the stuff they sent?
@@masterof2d926 Haha, well i know I got 2 copies of Ice Hockey lol.
Timothy Wintle wow. This is why I’m so hesitant to subscribe. I just usually go to my local game store and buy what i want there or just do a quick search on eBay
I think that even if the average was below a bit, I would take into account that it has a convenience to it because its a subscription so as long as it was still somewhat close I would say it would still be worth it
Hi Andrew, I am finally getting a 3ds on monday and I am so excited!
Oh thats cool I have a New 3DS XL and its great! hope you enjoy it and if your looking for games I would get Super Mario Maker its a very good game.
Holy crap....you’re alive??? What’s up man? I miss your videos dude.
Yay! A new upload. I'm a big fan. You need 1M subs
I've been subscribed to them for awhile. The wishlist doesn't help greatly, but they aren't sending me anything in my collection. The convince and excitement of not knowing what you're gonna get easily pays for some it if the video games don't match $35. Overall been worth it so far.
Hey Nintendrew, since you've not uploaded a video for a long time, I would like to ask...is everything allright? Greetings from Germany.
Der ist Tod.
@@seivax_mkw6756 ja ne is klar!? Woher kommt diese Info und wieso postet er weiter fleißig auf Twitter? Du erzählst Blödsinn.
I think as long as the value of the games sent gets kinda close to the cost of the box, then the difference in price paid versus value can be chalked up to the curation process of putting that box together for you, the convenience of getting them at home and the shipping cost.
When is he Going to post a new video
This was a really interesting look at this type of service. My only hesitation is that I tend to prefer quality over quantity, and that doesn't seem to be the case with this. I'd rather drop $35 on a single game, or more, than spread it out over several games that are really common and not that good. After all, a collector is always most proud of their rarest pieces, right? Not to mention, it feels like it takes away the fun of shopping for it for yourself and that sense of discovery you feel when you come across something good. So, honestly, I'd prefer to save my money and be able to put it towards pieces that I specifically want.
We need Nintendrew we all need nintendrew did is he a Afking he Not uploading wot is he up too now we don’t know
I had a stroke reading this
These boxes are novel like a lot of subscription boxes now but time passes and the novelty wears off. I honestly wouldn’t spend my money on this but all in all glad to see Nintendrew content. Reviews are detailed and honest, keep up the good work and stay safe.

Considering shipping costs for buying individual games is a lot I think you're also saving money with the subscription even if the value isn't there.
yo what happened to Nintendrew? It's been 2 months since an upload lol
Dear nintendrew my name is alex i am 14 years old and i am a retro games collector and i have been searching for a video/website to cover these as well as you thank you i will buy these box’s and my collection will keep growing again thank you and keep making great content
these boxes are generally much worse than this, they’ve heavily inflated the value inside because they knew you would upload it
Thank god i'm not the only one who feels this way. I ordered one box and I got bayou billy, sonic spinball, tiger woods 06, nwo revenge and jungle book for the original gameboy. when I contacted them about getting a trash box, they told me i had to refine my choices. keep in mind i had refined my choices already and put in a wish list with a ton of games.
no one knows why I got so many likes
I carry 2 copies with me at all times
@boiiop123 Just curious, in what kinda emergency wouldja need ta pull out a copy of Rhythm Heaven?
@@futuramabender2078 everything.

Very good that you tested several boxes. I remember when here in germany the first(?) Box was availible some YT guys got a Box for Promotion, but it wasn't representative for the subscriptionbox because the value and the game condition were pretty different. 👍
BUDDY, stop making videos and go watch The Goonies!
You can select if the manual is included or not :D you just have to put it in a list/collection. You can also just collect the manual without the game/case
Aaaanndd, aren't you going to explain why you were missing for almost two months?
It's really cool they add stuff like demo games. Makes collecting those a whole lot easier.
of course they are sending u boxes over value, you are youtuber. what about the masses, perhaps we will never get the shiny riches
Even when the boxes were lower than $35 you still have to consider the fact that you aren't taking the time to go and shop for them. I can see this service being worth it if I got a value of $30 per box.
But I always wondered about these boxes and if they are worth it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
He really uploaded this crappy sham of a video then dipped
One of the more obscure and different channels, very good content, keep it up, Drew, you're awesome!
I had them for 4 months, most expensive game I got was about $12, everything else was usually between $1-$5, most boxes were around $20-$25 according to price charting
God bless Nintendrew putting his ad breaks at the very end... A true hero😍
That's what I have been doing for a long time
Thanks for continuing to make videos for us during quarantine, makes it a lot easier to get through.
The price doesn't account for shipping which for the month-by-month plan would be near $42 for myself
I know I am not the only person who will say this, but "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE GOONIES!" It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
So I signed up for this service after watching this video and they shipped my first box on July 17th. I am still waiting for it and as of this post it is Aug the 5th. I feel like the shipper has lost my box 😢
Dude watch Goonies....one of the best films of the eighties
Happy to see this video come out! I've been going back and forth in wanting to get this subscription or not and I know I can trust you.
After 2 months the man is back
Appreciate the video.
