    Just got these yesterday . Love the feel of the grips . I also have the hori pro . For me I like the compact better . I don’t use gyro and don’t care about rumble . The compact fits my hands better than the pro . Pretty sure if my hands were bigger the pro would be my go to . Hori compact is so comfortable to hold if your looking for joy cons for switch you can’t go wrong with compact if you have medium size hands . If you have larger hands get the pro .

    I haven't seen anyone covering the turbo function, so I had no idea it had three speed settings indicated by an LED light. Pretty cool. Thanks for going in-depth on that.
    I feel I should mention for anyone interested in the Split Pad Compact that the Light Gray & Yellow and Apricot versions of it are $50 in the US. You'd only be paying $60 for the Pokémon ones.
    Assuming there isn't a licensing issue keeping Hori from including rumble, wireless, and gyro in an officially licensed product like this, my guess is that the lack of those things is due to cost. Each piece would have to have an internal battery (because they would draw too much power from the Switch otherwise) and additional tech. We might be looking at $70 to $80 for the Split Pad Compact instead of $50 to $60.

    • @128KB
      @128KB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Ahhh thanks for pointing that out, I did indeed just look at the Pokémon prices in US! Yeah I agree with you, I don't think it's a licencing thing, I think it's due to cost too.

    • @smamurai

      I agree on the licensing, but I think it's more Nintendo blocking these features so as to not hurt their own joycon sales or future prospects of creating their own premium joycons tbh.

      @128KB  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh? That's news to me! Where are you getting that information from? I'd love to see. Makes sense since these are licenced by Nintendo but there's plenty of other 3rd party companies (unlicenced products) that include gyro/rumble/NFC and Nintendo hasn't gone after them. I was under the impression HORI didn't use gyro/rumble/NFC to keep production costs down.

    It shares a trait with many cheaply made controllers though: The sticks gravitate to the four posts on the cross axis. You can see it in calibration mode. Try doing a smooth rotation and it gets hung up on those posts, like a magnet you have to overcome. Not good for top down shooters as aiming at an angle becomes annoying.

    I have the compacts since last week and I've noticed that even if in the calibration setting the sticks work perfectly, in-game they have a pretty noticeable deadzone.

    • @128KB

    Bought them one week ago and... send them back 5 days later
    To me, even if there are some improvement, it is still not good enough in general to replace the original joycons + a grip.
    Here's what I noticed:
    Good points:
    + Way more compact and well designed than the original, you don't have the impression of having something too large on the sides of your screen
    + Buttons are all now in solid plastic instead of some in rubber material
    + the turbo button works pretty well and you can have 3 different speeds for it
    + The sticks feel way more "pro" than the ones on the joycons
    "not so good points":
    - Still no vibration, gyro,.... well everybody knows already
    If you pause at 2:50 you'll notice some issues
    - The right hand is still in a strange angle so the use of the right stick is still unconfortable
    - The D pad is not where I would want it to be to play battle games for exemple
    - Well let's go to the biggest issue: pause at 2:54 ... It doesn't fill the palms at all, you still have to hold the switch with a part of your fingers, making the use of the extra trigger not ideal.
    After few days of playing, I started to feel some fatigue in my left wrist...that disapeared directly back on my old skull and co grip for the oled model
    After sending them back, the only think that I miss from these are the quality sticks that the joycons don't have. So I think my joycons still have some use in the near future

    • @128KB
      @128KB  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Each to their own! Sadly, no product is perfect and it's all personal opinion/preference at the end of the day. A good grip + joycons is always better than no grip! I myself really enjoy these, they'd be perfect with gyro/rumble for me!

    • @newfiesig
      @newfiesig ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree completely. Bought a pair today, will be going back tomorrow.
      The joysticks are great. The buttons are fine. But the ergonomics are terrible. Just like using the joycons without a grip, you need your little fingers to grip the bottom. Becomes comfortable very quickly.
      As much as I dislike the joycons, using them with a neo grip is a better option than these, from an ergonomic standpoint alone.
      Add gyro and HD rumble and its not close.

    im considering getting these, because i gave up my split pad pro for a pair of joycons, and i was very disappointed. i had never used them before, but i realized right away that joy cons drain your switch. like what???? they drain your switch battery ALOT. i was under the impression that this wasnt the case, but apparently it is. they charge constantly from the switch battery which drains the switch. so now i guess i have to get an alternative again and these new split pads look good enough. truth be told, i could live without the gyro or rumble. but it would have been nice to have the, and whats frustrating is that its totally possible. the joy cons have 20 hour batteries. which means they last far longer than the switch battery itself. so why the fuck do they need to constantly drain the switch? why cant they charge only when on low battery?

      Since it's handheld only it doesn't need wake from sleep from the home button, just press the power button. Wireless controllers have wake from sleep on the home button so you don't need to walk to the docked Switch to press the power button. Shame about the wobble though 😢

    I have a very strange issue with my Split Pad pro Gengar Model. The left analog stick starts drifting every time I play after like 10 minutes of gameplay, but it completely fixes if I remove the joycon itself or if I put the console in sleep mode. That's strange, because if it would be a normal case of drifting it wouldn't solve by simply removing it or turning off the console.
    When it happens, the analog stick seem to move my character down even when it's in neutral position.
    Can anyone help?

    How does the speckled grip feel texture-wise compared to the split pad pro? I found the pro extremely rough and irritating to use, I could not stand it. Same for the sticks, they look like they have a texturing in the middle.
