    I think that at $300 this wheel is a great option for someone trying to get their very young kid into racing. But youre right.. at the current price, just go for the R5 or fanatec DD r2r.

    I just got the R5 bundle and its exceeded all my expectations. Between the price, quality of parts, affordable upgrades, range of options, and software, Its the best sim racing setup I've had to this day. I've gone from logitech, to fanatec, to Moza. Fanatec is equally well built, but significantly more expensive. Almost twice as expensive in some cases.
    I got the R5 bundle for just slightly more than the price of the Thrustmaster T300. For a direct drive option, you cant beat that.

  • @kasper_429
    @kasper_429 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    If they included the same rim as the R5 (bigger, fully round, and actual leather), but with the Xbox buttons from the R3, it'd be the perfect beginner combo IMO.

    • @GregoryShtevensh
      @GregoryShtevensh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree about the "bigger" part.
      At 3.9nm, you really actually want the smaller diameter to lower leverage.
      Round, leather... totally agree there!

    • @kasper_429
      @kasper_429 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@GregoryShtevensh Yeah maybe. I'm 100% a noob to sim racing, so I didn't know wheel size made that much of a difference. I guess it depends on the person. I personally wouldn't be just like wailing away on stuff that I paid hundreds of dollars for, but I guess if you get into an intense race and you're in the moment, anything can happen lol.

    • @GregoryShtevensh
      @GregoryShtevensh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @kasper_429 I have used a 270mm a 300mm and a 350mm on my csl dd.
      It's more about finding the right sweet spot for dynamic range you have available.
      If you think of the forces of the sim in terms of percentages, then you still need a range that can fit all forces, from 1% to 100%. The actual sim, at 1 to 1 could be upto 10nm for gt3 cars and higher even under certain circumstances.
      3.9nm is actually still enough to provide that range, but it needs higher details at lower forces, and a small enough wheel, so that forces at 100% still feel substantial.
      I find If I want to drift, 350mm is fine.
      But for any racing on the limit of grip, I want more like 300mm. And in some cars, with an 8nm base, I can better replicate what these cars might feel like at 10nm, when I'm using 270mm of leverage, and the real car has 310mm of leverage (in the wheel).
      I prefer 300mm for GT cars and basically anything that isn't drifting. But on a weaker base, I do think 280mm will make better use of what you have.
      And the overall strength needed to drive it will be lower, with a wider wheel diameter, regardless of the base

      The r5 comes with exactly the same rim aside from the fake leather wrap. The larger round rim you are talking about is an add on along with the formula rim. So you will be able to put them on your r3 rim also.

    In the UK and just placed an Order for the R3 and Brake performance via a reseller. Also looked at Fanatec CSL bundle but as they are direct purchasing the cost when factoring shipping and taxes, and the potential upgrade to QR2 (maybe not required) was quite a significant jump. At least £100+ extra (£200 with QR2) so takes it out of budget for me for my first wheel.

  • @kspectre21
    @kspectre21 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Glad to see more entry level options but I do wish it was slightly cheaper considering the cost cutting they've taken.
    Currently though if I were to go for a wheel I'd likely get this one as it's only a little bit more than the Logitech G920/923 over here and it's just so much more versatile. I do also like the small form factor and it makes it way easier to mount on my desk or even a smaller rig.
    The only issues for me are that rim and the pedals, that round rim you showed is $110 here and the upgraded SR-P pedals are about $350 including Clutch (CRP are $650 so way out of the question).
    Still comes out cheaper than the R5 bundle though which is $850 with the same SR-P Lite pedals, so all in all around $1200 for an R5 Bundle with the slightly upgraded pedals or $1500 with CRP, both which are just way too much currently.
    Unfortunately no presence here at all from Fanatec or the others so there's not even an alternative outside of Logitech currently.

It costs 40€ less, has 1.1NM more tourque out of the box and can be upgraded to 8NM instead of 5NM with a beefier power supply. Whereas when you want similar tourque form the Moza you'd need to ditch the R3 and get the R9, which is 439€ on its own.

    Ok so I agree for PC users the R5 bundle on sale is the better way to go but if ur a pc user you are already pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to wheels.
    Xbox users on the other hand have very limited DD options.
    Thrustmaster has none.
    Logitech is over $1000
    There’s the new Turtle Beach wheel which does give u a fair bit for the price but currently doesn’t have any upgrade part so may leave you wanting more
    And then there’s fanatec which if their WRC Xbox wheel was a leather wheel instead of Alcantara it would be the perfect deal as I could get a PlayStation base and an Xbox wheel and be good to go. But while i haven’t felt Alcantara b4 most reviews suggest wearing gloves due to it feeling rough and getting easily worn from sweat and all their other Xbox wheels are $400 which is the same price as the R3 anyway so I might as well just get the R3 and either wait for better options for PlayStation or get a fanatec

      I would look at either the R3 or R5 bundles. The only real differences right now is the R3 having slightly less torque output and the Xbox compatibility. Both can be mounted to a desk with the included clamp. If you don't have a way of securely mounting the pedals (such as a rig or something else to screw them down to), then avoid getting the brake performance kit as it will make the pedals tilt back when you go to hit the brake. Fanatec does have the CSL DD bundle, but they are going through a ton of internal issues right now that makes customer service next to non-existent at this time.

    Direct drive does sound appealing for Euro Truck Simulator. Driving down the highway with my Thrustmaster TMX, it is annoying trying to center the truck on the highway as the teeth on the force feedback gears do not provide a fine enough degree of movement. Bouncing over one tooth trying to keep the truck driving straight. Nobody talks about small movements like this in their reviews, but I suppose with DD it's a non-issue. I mean if you want a round wheel and a clutch the r3 bundle will cost you (where i live) 568 euro. If you get the Fanatec Csl DD r2r bundle and buy the additional clutch pedal you pay 540 euro, and you get 8nm of force with a round wheel and clutch. Imo the r3 is very much overpriced. Which is quite funny, because rn their R5 bundle costs 509 euro. If you get a clutch pedal with that that will still be 553 euro. And although you dont get a round wheel, its still higher quality than the r3. And even the r5 still has less torque than the Fanatec CSL at that price point.
    I used to be a big fan of moza wheels, but it just feels like they are getting a little too confident as a "leader", with everyone being angry at Fanatec. Tbh Fanatec ruined their rep, but I´d still rather invest in one of their wheels. And if you wanted less torque you could just go for the r2r 5nm bundle from Fanatec and with a clutch and a round wheel straight from the box, you would pay around 440 euro. Yeah Fanatec ruined their rep, but there is no reason they couldn´t get it back. And they also didn´t stop existing because of that.

      F1 23 was missed out so I assume it doesn’t work on 23.
