I’ve had my ballistic for 4 months and love it. I have a 5000 and i saw a 6000 for sale so I bought it immediately since I haven’t seen this size available anywhere. I’ve become a diawa man. I still love shimano but some of the diawa line is just unbeatable in smoothness, weight, and durability. I have the big mq and I love that one too. I had the vanford and the ballistic just beats it all the way around I have a fuego and I like it better than the vanford. I caught a 25lb yellowtail on my 6000 and it handled it like nothing.

@@justanotherday1st I like my 6000 for the ocean for calico bass but it’s strong enough to bring in a 20-30 lb yellowtail and it holds more line just in case you hook into something big. For such a light reel it’s extremely strong. The 5000 would probably be better for lakes cause it’s a little lighter which means a lot when your casting it all day plus it’s got the same amount of drag. I like both of them and use them both equally.

The newer MQ is constructed of Daiwa's Zaion-V, which is essentially a grade between their standard carbon composite body used in the Fuego and current ZAION material that was used in the previous model Ballistic LT. Still lightweight & durable under load. This allowed Daiwa to still continue with their MQ Concept Body while still offering a Zaion alternative material.

Nah, shimano vanford all the way, traditional seals and hydrophobic solid clutch > magseal, my 5000 vanford weighs the same as a typical 2500 size reel of lesser materials, it has similar features to the stella. For market price of 220 you get a reel with machined aluminum gears, full carbon body, carbon drag, sealed bearings, sealed clutch. Its very similar to the ballistic but after having using both religiously i gotta give the slight edge to vanford. Its newer and shares features with more high end shimanos. Due to the magseal you cant service the reel on your own because daiwa wont sell the oil, in terms of actual sealing no magseal is as efficient as a rubber gasket, i know beacuse i tested the saltiga, catalina, certate and ballistic in the surf and marshes, small sand particles would enter mag oil and affect the magnetic seal. Shimanos premium reel service is also superior, for me thats a deal breaker if i cant work on my own reel atleast make your reel service quicker and more streamlined. As much as like daiwa this was just a blatant daiwa ad. In the price range nothing touches the vanford, however i find if you have the money to burn the certate is the superior reel in the mid to high range. Certate>vanford>ballistic>stradic fl=saltist back bay> spheros inshore> bg> fuego> nasci,
Despite the magseal i rank the saltist back bay quite high because on ebay it can be found for very appealing prices, the gearing and drag is on par with the stradic fl. Also the best deal is the spheros inshore which is basicly the previous stradic model but with an updated clutch and roller design.

I hope they didn't make the spool tall like the Vanford. The line rubs on itself when the fish is taking drag and the reel is in full up or down position. I like my ci4 better than my Vanford. I might replace the vanford with this Diawa once I check it out. PS the stradic fl has the same tall spool.

I have a Daiwa Fuego that I used for inshore here in Socal. Great for Spotted Bay Bass and moderate sized halibut. Actually caught a large Ray without any problem.. I loved it until it got dunked, and froze up. Daiwa is about 30 minutes from me in SoCal, so I dropped it off. Six weeks later I picked it up. In the meantime, I got a variety of stories. First there were no parts needed. Then waiting for parts. On the last call, magically the parts had appeared, so there was now only the normal two week turnaround. Two days later, it was suddenly ready.
Love the reel. Hate the customer service.
BTW the service cost about the same as a new Pflueger President, and it did not last as long as the typical President.

Loved my ballistic but after 2 seasons the main gear broke because salt water can enter straight into the internals through the anti-reverse switch. In my opinion, any reel with an anti-reverse switch should not be fished in salt water. If anyone is thinking about getting this reel to use in the salt I'd pass and get something without the switch on it. The kage mq is pretty much the mq version of this reel from what I can tell, and has no switch on it. More expensive, but worth it if you plan on using the reel for more than 2 seasons in the salt. Who TF even back reels on a fish?? Not sure why companies keep putting these switches on reels in the first place. I switched to all Penn slammers after 2 seasons with this reel after it failed on me and 2 years with a stradic FL that kept getting smoked so I needed to upgrade. Alot easier to service Penn reels yourself as well.

The (2020) Luvias MQ LT series is a good reel too with the (Lower 5.2:1) Gear Ratios more similar to the Ballistic (Low Gear) Reels but a much better reel with the Zion Monocoque frame just a slight step above the Kage MQ LT but basically they are the same reels just (1 less bearing) and with the Kage MQ LT series running the higher (6.2:1) Gear Ratios.
In 3 days from now the new (2021) Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT will be announced at Icast which looks like a really nice reel as well too No (Anti-Reverse) Switch, MQ Body but with the supposedly new Zion V material that Daiwa claims is almost as strong as the original Zion but I doubt it, as not sure why they didn't just use the standard stronger original (Zion) material on the new, $229.99 New Model Ballistic but I guess we will find out more when Daiwa starts talking about it this week at the show

I’m shimano guy n i can’t hide it but still use other reels like penn which for the price they r just a better deal than alot out there. Magseal gimmik is killing any daiwa reel unless u r nearby daiwa service centre , for years we’ve been doing just fine wuthout this unneeded complications , if u don’t take enough precuations for ur reel even van staal and zeebass could be target for water intrusion, locomotive osc along with bad spool lip design bringing a short castiblity n torque, still using stupid ar sw from the old time in mid range reels, worm gear, longer spool, wide forward spool lip angle , daiwa should consider hard for these elements along with no magseal/ar sw,

Fair point. Yes, it's a fancier term for "High-End Plastic". The same would apply for Shimano's Ci4 Materials, which is their version of a carbon composite. Reels are either constructed out of these carbon hybrids used nowadays, or Aluminum or Magnesium, depending on the model.
