We can start reading nutrition labels. It's not that hard to do, plus it makes us more informed about what's in our food too anyway. If using jaggery is not possible in some dishes, simply dont add sugar or jaggery, it wont do us any harm. Fruits are costly depending on season, yes, but I'm sure the average urban indian household can afford them. We need to remember that we aren't doing all this for someone else, we're doing this so that *we* can live a healthier, happier life.

Reading nutritional labels are eye openers. But it feels complicated to a normal consumer. My parents were shocked to know that their 'healthy' oats marie had just 1.37% oats, rest was refined wheat flour (maida) But marketing ads showed it like it was all oats and the best thing to have with tea.

You forgot to mention some great solutions for the industry and the environment. 1. SUGARCANE can be converted to biofuel or ethanol by the sugar mills which in fact can reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and import of crude oil. 2. Sugar mills can turn sugars into bioelectricity and they can be self-sustained and excess power can be supplied to the power grid and it can also reduce our dependency on thermal power plants. 3. By-products of sugarcane can be used to produce green plastic.

I agree. i haven't cut sugar or anything but i don't eat packaged foods. just have some ice cream twice a month and maybe some dark chocolate. yes i do have mithais etc during festivals but i don't think one kaju katli harms anyone.
If you want to reduce your sugar intake here is a tip- start having dark chocolate, one square a day, and slowly increase the cocoa content. Dark chocolate creates the same dopamine reaction as sugar without it's dangers. Our brain craves more sweet taste because it has associated the sweet taste of sugar to the dopamine rush. When you start having dark chocolate, you are retraining your brain to make that association to bitterness. Then your palette will change and you will be start finding too much sugar sickening, which will naturally lower your sugar intake. Try cutting out packaged food like peanut butter, jams, white bread cornflakes, cornflakes, biscuits, cakes with tonnes of added sugar during this time. If you crave for them, eat some kind of nuts, seeds or fruit or eat a roti instead. Edit: By dark chocolate I mean chocolate with 75% or more cocoa content, not anything that just look dark. It will be bitter and that's the point. The point is to retrain your brain to associate the rewarding feeling to bitterness and away from the sugary sweet taste. I'm not recommending dark chocolate as a sugar replacement, but as palate retraining

In my native Konkan coast, we use jaggery for making all sweets which are made elsewhere using sugar. Even besan ladoos are made with jaggery. In Goa we use two varieties of jaggery. One is the regular cane jaggery and the other is plam jaggery which is obtained by heating the sap of a palm tree over very high heat. Ayurveda uses sugar for making medicines like chyavanaprash or various arishtas and asavams. However the suger mentioned by our ancient texts was the unprocessed sugar or raw sugar which looks like big crude cryatals and not the overtly refined grains of sugar. Hence those medicines are healthy.
If you're addicted to sugar and find it difficult to give it up: 1. Never buy sugary stuff to stock at home, and definitely do not keep it in easy access (Resisting chocolates/sugary drinks everytime you see them when opening your fridge indeed requires superhuman mind self-control). That way you avoid convenient addictive consumption of it. Make yourself earn it the way nature meant it to be when you needed to climb a tree for a fruit. 2. Never order desserts at home (Swiggy/Zomato make it difficult by prominently recommending them), which too makes sugar consumption very convenient. If you need to step out every time, it'll automatically result in a higher barrier. 3. Keep a stock of fruits for when you feel craving of sugar. Not all fruits are expensive. Apples too have been marketed excessively. Guavas are tastier, cheaper and healthier. 4. Have tea/coffee only at fixed times, not everytime you feel like it. The more easily you have something, the lesser you enjoy it. You don't have to give up consuming sweets, drinks and chocolates. You just have to make it about specific moments or when you go out, instead of making it your regular food intake.

Sugars(Glucose+Fructose) are nothing but a simple carbohydrate with high glycemic index.
But when you start checking nutritional labels people thinks crazy

@@shouryajain8847 I was talking about Real juice brand from Dabur

I used to force my parents to buy boost as it came with gifts . Badminton, watch, sling bag ,water bottle and many other things.
Ohh these marketing techniques..😐
If you're addicted to sugar and find it difficult to give it up:

Our understanding of sugars is flawed, we think sugar as that white tiny crystals or maybe jaggery or maybe anything that has a sweet taste. Sugars(Glucose+Fructose) are nothing but a simple carbohydrate with high glycemic index. If you are avoiding sweet things and binging on any simple carbohydrate with high GI you are eating sugars(technically). Your body does not differentiate between that white spoon full crystals and extra spicy parathas. Sweetness is not a indentity of sugars.

Well actually, paranthas are complex carbs with soluble fibre. So not as high a GI as table sugar
Fructose actually has a very low GI as compared to other carbohydrates, but is more harmful as it can cause fatty liver disease

As a kid I would always go crazy whenever Chocos offered free gifts like pokemon cards and other stuff.

Jaggery has been adulterated very badly in past years.
I would advice that try approaching a village and find where jaggery is being made.
They make jaggery in front of you and yes the taste and colour difference says it all.
Don't buy jaggery from Stores they are most adulterated with White Sugar :(
yes. There is no quality check and its made in fields and often mixed with sand, oil, grease etc
you can use brown sugar as it has all minerals and is produced in factory but 99% have no clue about it
Molasses is also another high mineral alternative to zero mineral white sugar
@@davelawson2564 brown sugar is not powdered jaggery like most Indians think. It's industrially produced by mixing white sugar with molasses. It's primary use is for baking products.
Luckily I belong to western UP, so getting totally real and natural jaggery has never been a problem for me..
But for the totally metropolitan people, getting pure jaggery must be challenging task🤔

Hey Mohak, I recently saw WHAT THE FOOD (it's a documentary on Netflix). There it's showed that how the risk of diabetes and cancer actually increases from consuming animal products like meat and milk... Please make a video on this...
As a South Indian I'd love to share your videos with my friends and family but most of them are not comfortable with Hindi. So it's a request from my side. Please add subtitles to your videos.
Turn on subtitles. It's there.

Jaggery and sugar are almost same same practically. Both crank up your sugars and make you sick.
They adultrate white sugar in jaggery. Palm sugar is good but again purity is a big ?
give us more detail pls.
They have similar calories but jaggery has some additional nutritional benefits, doesn't it?
Chandan Singh who the heck cares about additional benefits when it has exact same bad effect as refined sugar.
Better to reduce sugar consumption in general and ti get used to that. Or increase physical activity.
I'm a science student and seeing it with evolutionary perspective sugar is necessary for us as much as fat...but today the chemicals used act as metabolic disrupter... And some artificial sweeteners in packaged food are know carcinogen...
What a knowledgeable masterpiece, A great package of awareness with the best editing and presentation offcourse 👍👍

It has been 3 years of me quitting sugar. Still my stomach started paining with sugar-craving after listening so much sugar in this video. If this is not addiction, I don't know what is.
Congratulations for quitting
Instead u can have sugarcane juice
👏👏👏finally, someone has started to speak about this much-ignored topic. Bravo!👍

My grandfather used to say 'Jisne apne jeevan me meethe ka anubhav nahi kiya usne kuch anubhav nahi kiya'
He was not wrong. He spent most of his life in village with scarcity of resources. For him and family, mithai was a treat, a festivity and not a regular food.
Sadly, now unaware consumers, ignorant government and greedy corporations are feeding most of the calories through sugar. One of these 3 entities will need to awaken their consciousness.
Thanks Mohak.
Each time I get impressed by his research and content . I really appreciate your work 👍
Mohak videos are entirely different from other youtubers of this genre. Great brother . Keep going 😁❤
