I don't even live there and my compassion is exhausted for the "people experiencing homelessness." When people who had made the investment and commitment by buying property in the neighborhood have to take a back seat to those who will turn the area into a drug infested Shanty town there is a dangerous imbalance. To wait until the homeless are afforded free housing is the same as saying "we have no interest in doing anything and will wait the situation out." Criminal.

Do you honestly believe that the only reason someone is homeless is because they are a criminal or do drugs or have mental illness? Do you not realize that there are some people that are homeless that at one time had made the investment and commitment to buying property and a neighborhood and something happened to drastically decrease their ability to maintain that lifestyle?I'm pretty sure you're not too many weeks from being in the same situation as they are

It's probally more precarious than that. if you live in that area, most likely you don't own where you live. Your landlord could decide to zip and flip you out and rent to someone else who has much more money than you. You are dependent on someone else and their thoughtwaves when you rent. landLORD, remember?
And when it's boogie woogie, let the good times roll again, your rent will skyrocket. Just ask all the renters who got pushed out of their apartments in San Francisco during the dotcom craze of the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Since the numbers are getting bigger and bigger you’re not going to fix this without clearing out the encampments. Services don’t help appreciably and there will never be enough “you can do drugs here” housing. Sobriety is difficult before you are at this point so you have to disconnect users from the drug supply not enable the clustering we’re seeing now.

"Sobriety is difficult before you are at this point so you have to disconnect users from the drug supply not enable the clustering we’re seeing now"
This will require them to be locked inside a building, an "institution" if you will, where the enviroment is highly structured and there are strict rules, so they don't have access to drugs and alcohol, and they have to accept treatment for their mental illnesses.
But we decided 40 or so years ago that this was inhumane, so we shut those places down and turned them loose on the streets. We also told cities that they should provide mental health services but that they didn't actually have to.
      And thus the situation today.

You could probably renovate and establish homeless shelters in the many empty military barracks in the area for a couple of million. Make it a Federal program instead of draining taxpayers" needed money for other projects. The Federal program would completely remove the homeless encampments off the streets of Los Angeles. Clothing, Food, Shelter, medical, mental and job training would be provided. A city bus service would be set up to allow the homeless to come and go from the barracks but it would be with the caveat that if they are found living on the streets again they would be transported back to the barracks. Can anyone tell me why this would not work. Does anyone have the initiative to take this on. I am 72 yrs old with an idea.
