Homeless encampments growing next to Beverly Hills

- Some Beverly Hills residents and business owners are expressing concern for their safety as homeless encampments expand along this affluent city’s border with Los Angeles.
The encampments have appeared along San Vicente Boulevard near Orlando Avenue, just south of the upscale Beverly Center shopping mall. Residents reported seeing a homeless woman, who they believe was intoxicated, lying naked on an abandoned couch.
KTLA's John Fenoglio reports on April 13, 2023.

Yea… it’s not a problem when the common citizen has to worry about the homelessness problem, but the minute it affects the rich, action suddenly needs to be taken seriously
Exactly what I said.
I hope Beverly Hills turns into Skid Row 😂
Yes!! We all pay a lot of property taxes in California. No matter the location and it's not fair that we see more homeless in the streets near our homes, schools, businesses.
Some people tolerate it, some don’t. It seems like the upstanding, responsible and civil people won’t tolerate that. Those people tend to have money. Meanwhile lowlife irresponsible people tend to tolerate it.
@@philmccracken179 unfortunately you’re right. But most of these low lives would rather support the actual homeless state of living because of liberal ideals. No offense to anyone but it’s true, it’s one thing to be a liberal and have a different political view, it’s another to be absolutely unreasonable and allow this to keep going.

@@truecanuck97 so you’re saying all the homeless people got to sf in only 2013?
In the USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.
Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.
I've remained in touch with a financial analyst since the start of my business. In May I went to LA on a business trip - I was quite excited to see what had become of the City of Angels since my last visit in 2004. I live in a poor area in south LA. There are homeless everywhere but the politicians and media don't care. As soon as homeless show up to a rich neighborhood, suddenly the media report on it and the councilmembers call for an emergency to have something done about it.
Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra were bragging if they give millions to the drag queens they should move their tents over to their property I mean how many mansions are out there more than enough room to move the tents off of the street
Yeah because the rich have money to throw at the problem to get it brushed off their doorstep. They will not be able to keep this away for long with how things are going.
It wasn’t a problem until it came to their neighborhood 🙄 I truly hope it spreads even further into the more affluent areas so they can experience the stuff that we common folks go through on a daily basis.
Absolutely right
Maybe then they'll actually start taking some action against people being priced out of their homes, regulating the conditions of the working poor and making sure the services these rich people take for granted and rely on daily can be done by working people that have somewhere to live and are not driven to destitution month after month. Maybe. Because, hey, the problem is now in their back yard and as much as they hate to admit it, they ARE the enablers. Vote and take action for affordable housing in coastal cities.

Are you new to LA? How is it that you don't realize that Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beaches have all been picking up homeless individuals and transporting them all to skid row since at least Jan '97, and probably years before that of which I'm unaware.
This isn't a new problem. That's 25+ years of not addressing this issue before it became out of control.
Reagan cut all the funding for mental institutions back in the 80s, and that was 2 terms of his, and one of Bush senior, that those building fell into total disrepair.
The US didn't have a homeless population until that happened, and then POOF overnight these people were forced out of mental institutions and onto the streets. Some have been there ever since, self-medicating.
These actions have long-term consequences. You almost never saw homeless people in any city in the US except for a very small number of transient, low-functioning psychopaths, before Reagan caused the mass closure of all those institutions all over the US and it happened almost overnight.

@@jazzfan7491 You would have to check for yourself. I dont live there. I imagine it has a different mayor. You do know what a suburb is, correct?
We have the same problem in my city. Last week the mayor said the city will allow tents only in public parks. The proposed solution is to develop several unwanted pieces of land and built mini homes that would house the homeless. They are not much bigger than a backyard shed with shared toilet and shower facilities. The ongoing problem is that landlords are charging unaffordable rents since there are so few rental units available compared with the demand.
Those "homes" come with rules that these junkies dont want to abide by.

Its really sad. We had a local homeless person aka addict/mental health person in our neighborhood. Took nearly 3 years of him screaming, howling and crapping on the street at all hours before he got help. He only stopped a couple days a month when he got paid and was able to pretty much be comatose on drugs, or for an hour or two during the daytime when he slept I guess. The rest of the time it was like having a banchee out in front of your house. The cops were called all the time, in fact this neighborhood has the police station at the end of the block but nothing was done. Finally a couple months back he started banging his head and falling all the time and they fitted him with a special helmet. When he started removing that and nearly killed himself the "ever kind" lefties did the unthinkable. They put him against his will into mental health treatment. Unfortunately I think it was too late to save his life. People who think they are so "moral and kind" because the only people whose activities they want to control are the tax paying, law abiding normal folks, otherwise allowing people to sleep in the elements, live in filth and take drugs day and night is ok with them. I sometimes think these lefties are so afraid they are going to be told they can't smoke pot or take their recreational drugs they are willing to forfeit anyone's life who has the misfortune of getting addicted.
Too bad u had to live in fear. No one should b living in fear. What kind of life is that? No one should infringe on your peace n happiness. Too bad no one has the balls to euthanize him n put him out of his misery.
WHERE ARE THE POLICE???? There is typically some very simple bylaw that is not being applied. 1:16 clearly states this. I am in Vancouver, Canada. These police in Vancouver are now being paid $122,000 annually ......they JUST GOT A RAISE .....and then they've got benefits, perks, pensions, and pension benefits.
And somehow, ONE tent becomes 30 or 50 tents .......and a whole pile of junk littered all around every tent!!! WHERE do these "homeless" people get all this stuff ......AND transport it to their tents????
Lets face and come to agreement ....the PRIMARY PROBLEM IS DRUGS. It is in Vancouver, Canada, .....and every single city and town and truck stop across the entire country.
SO WHY DON'T WE STOP THE DRUGS ENTERING THE COUNTRIES .....CANADA AND THE U.S.????
WHY NOT SPEND A COUPLE BILLION DOLLARS AND SHUT DOWN ALL ILLEGAL DRUG IMPORTATION??? This cost would probably pale in the costs drug addicts impose on ALL the support systems in both countries ....policing, medical services, funeral services. WORK WITH THE COUNTRIES THAT EXPORT DRUGS!!! If we don't, it is just going to get worse.

MAYOR BASS "SMILEY" SAID EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO LIVE WHERE THEY WANT TO, SO NOW
YOU HAVE THEM. ENJOY YOUR NEW NEIGHBOR. IT'S A SANCTUARY CITY RIGHT?
This is a problem here in Chicago too. All the major parks have at least one homeless encampment. But instead of helping them out we decide to take on refugees from Mexico. It’s actually quite sad how we always have room for others but never any for our own people.
To Eligreg99: What? Chicago? The topic is the *IRONY* of the most dreamed-of district to reside in the world is transforming into a dangerous situation for the upright.
Ironic as most of the those "refuges from Mexico" are willing to find a work to support themselves... Take a look at what's going on Florida where most farmers couldn't find workers for their crops after the new "tough immigration law" thus increasing the value for fruits and vegetables... meanwhile the homeless that already here in the U.S, majority of them just don't want to work.
Most of the people coming over from border are not from Mexico , they are using the system to claim asylum . They are from Central American , South America , Africa , Central Asia and even Gypsies from Europe and China . Let’s just say I work in green
Maybe because refugees from Mexico come to work hard for a living n our own people don't feel like working for a living? 🤔
Very well 👏 👌 said! Just mind blowing...
I have been in LA recently, the extent of homeless is insane compared to other cities. Need immediate action.
You obviously haven't seen videos of the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia, PA.
You need to see Hawaii. It's pathetic
You should see Chicago!

The generous people of Beverly Hills will open their homes and finances for the Sanctuary City they talked, voted and promoted. God Bless the homeless of Beverly Hills.
😂😂😂
Beverly Hills is a sanctuary City? that I never heard. Also never heard of a Beverly Hills sanctuary City ballot measure; especially one which Beverly Hills residents unanimously voted yes . And I live out this way.
The more they spend on helping the homeless, the worse it gets. I think it goes to show there's a fine line between compassion and enabling.
It's not compassion but ignorant of the causes.
What have they spent on the homeless?

Interesting how it is outlawed there, but anywhere else in LA it is perfectly okay...
Studio apartment. Open floor concept. Walking distance to Beverly Hills and restaurants. $3k/mo
That's absurd. Isn't it
Yikes
Makes me sick 🤢

"affecting their quality of life...." greed and privilege is such a disgusting thing.
A society of self-centered people.
Who's the governer? Sack him.
I like how that lady says “they are fighting and doing drugs”! I’m pretty sure a good majority of the people that live in Beverly Hills are also “fighting and doing drugs”.
True, but they are expensive drugs, so that makes them 'better'
Yea well at least they are functioning and working drug addicts. Just saying, No?
@@michaelscott181 I agree with you on that. I just find it interesting that no mater where we are at on the food chain of life we are encountering the same problems but in different venues and at different pay grades.
As a street person its not homeless it's a drug habit
Your right , the real problem is being ignored like usual. 99% of the people that are homeless are drug users. And its being brought thru our open borders , great job Joe Biden.
Those Hollywood mansions have plenty of drugs!
The super rich need to share the wealth!
Drugs aren't a 'habit', they're an addiction. And usually linked to a trauma or mental health issue. But now its so bad its NOT just that, its literally people who can't afford housing. Thats a SOCIAL and political problem.
@@mikearchibald744 Actually drug use is linked more to Cluster B disorders, first and foremost, and people with true mental illness (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.) are usually self-medicating.
A smaller minority have adult onset PTSD that has been untreated, especially war veterans and victims of domestic violence, rape, etc.
@@le_th_ I'm in canada where pot is legal, and people use it for anythign and everything. Coke was being used by pretty much EVERYBODY in the financial andentertainment industries.

But I get your point, and its a good one.
I’m sick of these homeless people and local governments not doing much about it. It’s insane they amount of BS they get away with
Aw it affects rich peoples quality of life, this is beyond heartbreaking to me. As a woman who has 2 kids, 3 foster kids and 5 rescue animals working 2 jobs, 60 hours a week, I’m sending all my love to these innocent rich people who are suffering untold horrors. I can’t imagine how hard your life is 🙄
BTW, I reside in a city that as soon as a tent goes up in a park, sidewalk, or neighborhood, the cops are there warning, issuing tickets if necessary, running their ID'S, and taking them to jail if they have warrants or refuse to remove their tents. Also the cops enforce parking hours so campers do not move into streets. Those minor laws if followed on the books makes or breaks a city.
Sheesh. We aren't even welcome on our own planet.

That only works up to a point. When there's to many homeless and two few cops and jails what then?
You must live in Dallas, Texas, cause L.A. does none of that.
I promise you that its not affecting anyone's quality of life. It just making them feel less rich than they like to feel.

Thank you for reporting...
I am homeless...
I am heading over there today with my rv and 7 friends
Go to the police department with a friend to film you. Watch how quickly they will force you to leave the public property by them. They ignore this next to people's homes and businesses. However, they do not ignore if it bothers their personal lives. As an alternative, park your RV outside councilman Katy's house. Again, film it and post on TH-cam how quickly you will be forced to leave or given a ticket.
Don't listen to the jerk above, stay safe, you are not alone, and don't be afraid to ask for help and move if you're able to. Relocation was my start over to a new life, out of state though since I couldn't take it anymore. I wasn't even homeless and could barely pay my bills in the most low-income apartments. Wishing you the best🙏❤️
You should have gone to college

Sad!!!!
Finally being noticed!! I've been watching it grow for years and finally left California. Sad, California back in the day was laid back and peaceful.
Even Libya and WW2 Germany had better policies than America
If we can direct the majority of homeless people from downtown Los Angeles and San Francisco to the wealthy exclusive areas, then I think real change will occur because once it actually affects them, they do push for a change in administration.
Just my opinion.
While I understand your line of thinking, and agree that the wealthy have the power and influence to affect change, we have to also remember that these are human beings, many of whom had childhoods that were traumatize the heck out of most of us.
People don't develop mental illnesses and personality disorders in a vacuum, it's early childhood neglect, abuse, deprivation and trauma that causes those disorders, which is why they're known as developmental disorders.
Many (not all) of these people are emotionally younger than 5 years old living in adult bodies and engaging in very adult activities while behaving like young children.
We can't lose sight of that. They are not objects without feelings.
@@le_th_ That’s true. Just hoping for some real good progress for everyone. It’s a big frustrating…

LA home prices dropping like a stone.
Prices and rent ain’t going down bro they keep going up
The only thing dropping are living wages since cost of living is going through the roof.
Yeah u wish thats one thing they wont do for awhile until people realize LA is a soulless crackedout dump thats not worth the money to live there
Now that it's reaching Beverly Hills, it will be cleaned up... but only the area near there.
This is interesting because me and my 5 roommates moved from Boise, ID and moved to LA, CA last year in January. We wanted to work in the entertainment industry (film/TV industry). We understand that CA is really expensive to live. But living in ID was the wasted time for our lives and the worst state ever. “Don’t CA My ID” is the worst phase we have ever heard.
Wow, whoever is running this state is doing such a great job they should run for president!
Yup, that guy is extremely "amazing" that he went to Florida to take care some problems there, and he forgot he is CA major.
It doesn't just happen there. I happens everywhere. I live in a state that has a Republican super majority and we have homeless camps. And while we have really short and mild winters, we don't have the year-round nice weather they have in southern CA. One camp was just off of a highway and a major road and I went by it every day going to work and coming home. The piles of trash was insane and it got worse and worse as it went. A couple of weeks ago, they were finally ran off and it was all cleaned up. before that, they were on the north side of the highway, kind of hidden away until the camp got out of hand and they started burning tires. They moved to the south side after getting ran off from the north side. I'm sure they will pop up somewhere nearby soon.
@@DaveCM That sounds like Austin, TX. Isn't it great smelling piss, finding needles, being harrassed, and having people drugged-up and passed out five feet from your door in the middle of the day? Yeah, God bless those wonderful, hard-working, compassionate homeless people. They just give and give.
