Once you're a member of ONE yacht club - you often get guest privileges to almost all other yacht clubs - always worth asking in a new area.
My thoughts exactly. Plus they can come back and stage for the Bahamas there each year if they make the East Coast a thing for a few years. Might be worth keeping up the membership after paying the big upfront initiation fee once already.
It's my understand that the accumulator tanks need the air valve pointing up, not for the air valve, but for the diaphragm inside of the tank to work properly. So.....

If you are going to dock Athena in central florida for an extended period of time, you should have a very specific plan in case of hurricanes or tropical storms. If you leave Athena roped to the dock in a bad storm, you will likely destroy the dock and that is usually on your dime. You might want to talk to some local Florida old timers for advice.
I knew that there would come a time where Athena doesn't have any space left for new gadgets, and that Mads would find a solution to that problem!
Tradition, which you may already know: If you visit another YC and they give you reciprocity, you give that club's bar one of your YC's burgees, for their collection.
So you might want to stock up on.

At the boat yard where I work,we bed portlites using sikaflex . Be sure to use the recommended cleaner, primer and activator Don’t skip a step and sand the plexyglass to give it some tooth

Howdy, welcome to FL. A couple of years ago, I looked into those Marina's. What struck me was that, at the time they told me that I needed a "Hurricane Plan". They basically said that I could not stay in the Marina. The option was to be hauled out and put into a Hurricane pit, ie; a hole dug into the ground where the keel sits in thus limiting the chance of tipping over. (there were very few of these, all we're spoken for. The other was to leave the marina and move elsewhere inland. Curious as to your experience. Enjoy

I’d suggest using Dow 795 instead of silicone around your windows. It’s structural sealant for glazing skyscraper windows. I cannot say enough good things about the sealant. I have the same issue with our Catalina 30 port lights and this is the recommended repair from the factory. Has worked terrific on our boat.

3M-5200, it's good enough to keep water out on fishing and commercial boats in the North Atlantic and Bearing Sea. there is a very good chance it'll work on that little sailboat
+1 for Dow 795 , I have used Sikiflex Polyurethene sealant on the cabin windows in the past and its OK but I have had failures despite strict adherence to instructions. Now we use Dow 795 as being silicone based its seems far more tolerant of UV light which down here in NZ is strong. We also use it when reglazing deck hatches its been great and I would not go back to Polyurethane based products.

Most likely your port lights are fixed by now but I have had luck with liquid silicon in the past. Gravity and capillary action fill the gaps. Of course we never like to put silicon on a boat but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet as the saying goes. 😢😅
Pretty sure that bladder accumulators last better if mounted vertically. Ive seen them last decades.

welcome to America. I grew up in Florida and sailed all over. Anxious to here about the project boat, and upcoming plans. You sped through the Bahamas in your videos, that was disappointing as wanted to see you both scuba dive much more in those beautiful islands. If a hurricane threatens that area, advice is to take your boat up into the flats, estuaries, away from docks and other boats. I went through two cat 4 hurricanes on a 44 foot boat with two anchors out and motor running in stand by during the worse. Yes lots of wind noise and all, but just a few hours and its over. Keep way to much chain out on both anchors. And most important, always keep a window cracked downwind so to relieve any suction build up. Take care and enjoy the area.
Two anchors is twice as many anchors to drag or foul on something -especially each other. One really good anchor with plenty of scope is my preference and has stood us well through all the named storms we have weathered over the years of cruising the East Coast full-time.

Also I agree, with an OVERSIZED modern anchor, and as much chain as you can possibly stow.
Last sailed in Florida in 95. Waterspouts are no fun.

We run a 45lb Mantus on our 35' HR Rasmus and there are times I wish we had a 55lb. But that would put a bit more wear and tear on our windlass. We are on our second Lewmar Pro 1000 horizontal unit as we completely wore out the one that came with our boat. We spent the bulk of our time on the hook and the poor machine had thousands of retrievals on it since we have owned it an god only knows how many before that.
@@svbarryduckworth628 There is at least 1 modern anchor, that has a bolt on shank. Get the largest you can handle, keep it broken down, in the bilge, as ballast, until needed.

A 55lb Mantus (the one that bolts together) is only $650 right now on sale for the holiday but that is only 10lbs heavier than our current 45lb Mantus. That would be half of our monthly cruising budget and we just spent $1400 on a new windlass only last month. No spare cash laying around for something so far down the list. We don't get TH-cam or patreon money nor do we have a merch store. We are just 50-somethings living on a fixed income cruising full time.
Like I said above the 55lb would be closer to the upper end of what our windlass could handle and would only be 10 more pounds and makes only a little difference. I would not want to push things with a 65lb. In shallow water it might be okay but in deeper water the extra chain weight added to the anchor and tugging a deeply-set anchor might be asking way too much.
After a big storm the Mantus can really be set deep and we've had a time or two just getting our 45lb to trip and pull up those first few feet when it is really buried and dug in deep We have never dragged with proper scope. We trust our Mantus with our only home.
Accumulators in houses are a pain as well. Usually they come with a 5 year warranty and a 62 month service life. My experience is bigger is better, so perhaps, if you can cram it in, a size or two larger will help it last a little longer. Put checking the air pressure on a schedule as regular adjustment makes them last a bit better.

Glad to see you made it, good place to get a haul out in the event a hurricane heads your way, just do it somewhat early or have a contract with a local yard. Your insurance may pay part of the haul out cost once it is a named storm heading your way. Some good restaurants in the port.

Ahhh, home, sweet home! I grew up in Brevard County in the '60s. My Dad and many of my friends found employment at the Cape. You are indeed fortunate to witness a launch right away! In my day it was the Saturn V everyone was in awe over and it could be seen day or night from Orlando, Daytona, and Palm Beach! It is good to see it again.
If your project boat falls through, I can give you a lead on a Macgregor 65 in South Florida that has to be fairly inexpensive since it partially sank in a marina down there a number of years ago in high winds. The last picture I saw of it, it was raised and moved to a home on a canal. But I believe the owner might live in Bellevue, WA, as that was the address listed.

Your right, I just did the second one for back up about half the distance between the first one, with the scope just laying between in case. I never had to use it, I never dragged.
Hey guys, having lived here for some time I would recommend going to the lock on the other side of the draw bridge. If you follow the road around to it. Worlds coolest fish tank is where the lock opens and closes.

I think we got fortunate. It can be very hard to find a slip around here.
Try and get a slip or on the hard at Westland marina. Used their facilities for six seasons, Great friendly place with access to all the amenities. All the best with your future adventures. Maybe we will see you in the fall.
We have a accumulator tank on or 1984 power boat . It is metal and larger than the one you bought. It has lasted years. That is if you space. Good luck Thanks for videos.
Wife and I live in Cooper City, FL from 2006-10 while she was in med school at Nova Southeastern and I would make a daily visit to the National Hurricane Center website every day from June-November. I'm glad we moved somewhere where hurricanes aren't a concern.
We check the NHS website every day no matter where we are on the East Coast. The only year we didn't is when we took our boat all the way up to the great lakes, the 1000 Islands, and then Montreal one summer. That was out of striking range of any of the Atlantic storms.
Some of the worst storms we got hit by were the year we got hit by lightning in NY and were all the way up the Hudson River by the Catskills and two named storms just sat on top of us there that summer as we were trying to do our repairs.
Another good website for tracking storms is called Cyclocane. They do a much better job tracking the different models of all the storms before they even become named ones.

Couldn't find much info on diaphragm accumulators, but a document giving advice on bladder vs piston accumulators gives a few things to think about.
Pistons last longer than others, except in water service scenarios where poor lubrication and contamination make bladders preferable.
Whilst bladders can be installed horizontally, for longevity they should be installed vertically with the liquid side down and gas side up.
Movement can affect longevity, an increase in precharge pressure may help.
And the biggest issue for longevity is using the correct size for the application.
Someone else mentioned the brand you are using may be of a poor quality, so maybe a simple brand change will solve the problem, but it might be worth looking into the size, type and installation required for your needs.
Seaflo is not the best but that accumulator tank looks like the smallest size made. For full-time use, especially with a big shower and heavy freshwater use die to s good water maker, and being in a marina half the time, they probably should upsize. Mads should consult a knowledgeable plumber for advice on this installation..

Since they haven't moved out of Port Canaveral yet in nearly a month it looks like they are staying for a while. That tells me they are doing a long-term project instead of cruising up the ICW to get out of the hurricane zone like practically every other full-time cruiser does.

Been watching since shortly before you found the rotten grid timbers. Never thought I'd be 2 hours away from you. Welcome to Florida, land of Pubsubs and hurricane parties. You definitely need to hit Publix for the former. The latter, hopefully we won't need any this season. It gets hotter than the hinges of Hell's Gates in summer but it might not be so bad on the water. Enjoy!

If they keep their membership up after they leave they can get free/cheap deals on slips at many other yacht clubs under reciprocal agreements.
Welcome, we are in Cocoa at Cocoa Village Marina.
As I know that’s a very nice and secure zone even during hurricane season, it would be raining and windy of course but nothing else to be worried actually, it’s well protected from strong winds and big weaves. And it’s one of the most incredible sites to see a rocket launch, on May 2017 I was at the Kennedy space center with my brother for a short vacation and that same day they had the last falcon 9 launch before the first falcon heavy so it was an important celebration, and from the visitors complex it looked just like your view at port, and I think your point of view it’s even better
We have heard that, too - that hurricanes tend to be a bit further south or north. Fingers crossed, we don't find out! It's a little bit "interesting" planning on staying here with all the talk about this being the most active hurricane season ever

Also hurricanes are not as bad as the news makes them out to be really . I mean when and if they hit yes they are bad but chances are slim . And the damage area is smaller than you would think . I grew up in florida and been threw several hurricane seasons . Just have a plan in place for if and when one hits.

Huricane wise Tampa Bay seems to be the place to be, but 40 foot slips, especally live aboard ones are quite hard to come by.

I'm curious how these yacht clubs work, if many of the members are transients. Where I live, you can't just pay and join. It takes a month to be accepted, and you need to be interviewed by a membership committee or whatever. Even for the low-key inexpensive clubs. And the idea is that you'd be around for a while and eventually join committees. And clubs have histories and characters. For these clubs that have a lot of cruisers, is there a core group of permanent folks who run the club? Seems like a great thing. It's just different, with people coming and going.
Anyway, enjoy your stay there! It looks like a great setup.
"Influencer's" special deal would be my guess. We will be seeing a lot of this establishment for the next couple of years as the new "somewhat extensive refit" progresses. Both sides get benefits from the arrangement.

Perhaps the reason your tank failed so quickly is the brand you bought; SeaFlo. Clever in that it sounds like SurFlow whose products are of decent quality. However, my own experience with SeaFlo is not very good. Bought one of their pumps for our air conditioner. In the past I always used a March pump. But a March pump was $400 and the SeaFlo was about $100. Great I will save money. Wrong. The SeaFlo pump lasted about 100 hours. Being in the BVI I figured I would never find a March pump. But I got lucky and found the right sized pump in Tortola for the state side pricer of $400. It's hard but try not to buy anything made in China. It is always junk.
Seaflo orange garbage. Genuine Chineesium junk.
Google deleted my previous reply. Those orange Seaflo pumps and related plumbing products are nothing but problems. Although we do have one of their macerator septic pumps that has lasted for 7 years of very occasional use. At least it worked the last time we were offshore a while back...no telling if it still works now. Their water pumps are extremely failure-prone.

I’m affraid you have the orientation of te tank wrong. It looks like you installed it horizontaly and it should be vertical, with the vent up. This way there will allways be air on top. If the pressure builds up, the volume of air gets smaller, but the pressure higher. But there wille never be water touching the diaphragm. That will fix your problem. You could also use an empty bottle for this system to work. Good luck! Regards, Kristiaan (NL)
There are clips on the bulkhead they snap into. I just pulled it down (vertical) to show the valve on camera :)

You've been in Port Canaveral for almost a month now according to marine traffic. I was wondering what was going on. I would think that Titusville just right there would be a heck of a lot cheaper to live at -especially in the mooring field. But that new marina might be safer if it gets hit than Titusville
I'd be terrified of the hurricane season in Florida too. We leave every summer and go north ourselves. A couple of years ago when we came back down to Florida the damage around the Daytona area of the ICW was mind-blowing. The dozens of wrecked boats washed up ashore willy-nilly every mile of shoreline was freaky. No thanks.
