It would be pretty cool to have Mads and Ava as neighbors. Then again 99% of the cruisers we have had as neighbors have been pretty cool too. Many of them we keep in touch with years later and always look forward to crossing wakes again in the future.

I bought and drive a used 2005 Ford Escape, so can relate to your joy of scoring an older vehicle in clean condition. A benefit of 20+ year old vehicles is that they have less electronic dohickies that could fail and leave you stranded.
Welcome to the US. You don't need a compressor to fill the fenders you already have a dive compressor. An adapter pressure regulator for one of your dive tanks will work just fine, refill the tank when you have time. Tank air also works great for air tools (die grinder), blowing things off and even a small spray gun. Tank volume is going to be limiting but for that quick short jobs it's really handy, with minimal parts investment.
Great job adding a city water connection to your boat. Your assistant did a wonderful job. I have just one suggestion and that is to move the water pressure regulator to the connection on the dock and not on the boat end. By doing this you will keep the high dockside water pressure from the hose and prevent it from blowing out. Happy hunting your next project, looking forward to it.
When I lived on my boat in a marina, I installed a manual device between the marina supply hose and the boat water inlet that could be set to shut off the water flow after a certain number of gallons ran through. I have seen similar devices in hardware stores. The downside is that the device had to manually reset. I quickly found that the device needed to be easily accessible so I could reset it when it shut off the water during my shower.
I noticed that some of all that glorious sanding dust finally lodged in your beard, Mads 🤓. Considering the massive amount of sanding you are about to take on with a cat, you will soon have the complete ‘Old Man and the Sea’ look going for you. When I lived aboard with my dad back in the 80s, we were hooked up to the city water through a spigot in the cockpit. It worked great, until a hose deep inside the boat burst from the pressure, and nearly sank her. The solution my dad came up with was a stop-gap that might help you guys rest assured Athena will not get totally swamped: He put a regulator on the city spigot, so that it would only dispense 50 or so gallons before shutting off. It was a minor inconvenience to go out to the dock to 'reset' the regulator every few days, but the peace of mind was worth it.

You can also purchase flow restrictions that limit water flow. Normally designed to limit flow for UV systems so water can be treated properly they would also work to limit flow so your smaller bilge pump could keep up. Or you can make one yourself, they're essentially a stainless plate with a hole in it, the smaller the hole, the lower the flow. 1/4" hole is around 5GPM

Strange as it may seem I just read an article where a steel yacht hooked up to city water and they actually sank in their slip. We have another problem. UV fries your hoses.
I almost spit my drink out - the Honda CRV is perhaps the perfect vehicle. I owned a white & a green version of this vehicle. I then sold one and passed one down to my kids. They loved it. Very solid choice!
Definitely. A Camry is pretty nice too -especially if you can find one of the extremely rare station wagon versions. More room than a CRV and more power with just as good fuel economy. Best if you can find one with the VIN number starting with a J -as in made in Japan. Just made better with better parts and better sheet metal/galvanizing.
Been watching your channel from the pre-Athena days. I live in Merritt Island. The only advice I can offer about your stay here which you haven’t covered is:
Right next to West Marine on MI is an excellent automotive repair shop, Sammy’s Auto. Rich Payne is the owner.
Get a right angle hose fitting that will make the water hose connection more streamlined to the hull. Stagnant water anywhere in the water system will go bad in the Florida heat. Filtering out the chlorine before your tank will only make the situation worse. Filter drinking water at the faucet and you'll avoid a real mess.
after drilling the hole for the screws. use a counter sink bit to remove a small amount of gel coat...it will prevent cracking
Those CR-Vs are one of the best Hondas from the last 30 years. You might want to check the rear gate handle for binding. If it is at all, lube it up real well or it'll break off too.
Boat store "food grade or drinking water" hoses tend to grow algae when used for dock supply water. Lots of sun and relatively low flow. A commercial grade food grade hose with a gray outer cover will keep your supply much cleaner. I'm on my 3rd boat with dock water supply, all the fitting in the system are rated for city water pressure.
for those fendertex fenders, we have four ourselves. With heavy wind they tend to dance around alot because they are so light. We saw another boat with them during hurricane beryl and they tied filled water jugs on the bottom loop with a line to keep the fenders from flying up in light wind. They out the jugs down in the water so they didn't bang against the hull.
So years ago i was living on boats(owner) in the sf bay area, over filling is a constant fear, i used a electronic programmable garden timer( Orbit Brand was the easiest to program), sprinkler valve w/vacuum breaker, i connected a spare float switch to the on-board rain sensor input of the timer, and programmed the valve to open and fill at night when i was home and off during the day when i was at work or away. you can get all of this from Home Dep*t.... oh I also had wired a small gear pump to transfer fuel from tank to tank thru my fuel filter/water separators... for the hell of it... Happy Boating...
Somebody probably already mentioned it but I suggest putting the pressure regulator on the other end of the hose. This prevents full shore pressure in the hose, prolonging its life and preventing it from possibly bursting.
I think they already built it into the fittings they mounted inside the combing.
Another issue is that these regulators tend to blow-by a little water outside of them when the water pressure changes. I
f you've ever noticed one of these mounted on the faucet next to yours at a marina it will burp a little water out as you turn your own hose valve on or off while your hose pressurizes and if your turn the valve off fast. I wouldn't want one spitting up in my lazarette like that.
Sure it is clean city water but moisture is a bad enough problem on a boat without adding more in the laz here and there even if it is just a few tablespoons occasionally.
Those fenders are cool. My boat lives on a mooring, I only need fenders once in a blue moon and they take up so much space. I was excited.
Then I looked up the price of Fendertex fenders. $259 AUD ($175 USD) for one fender! My good thats a massive mount of coin for a fender! And thats saying something when you own a yacht!

Another option for water filling: use a sprinkler controller to fill the tanks when they are getting empty. (assuming you have water tanks connected to Cerbo, which can control the sprinkler valve).
The Fendertex bumpers scratched the crap our of our paint job with little micro-scratches over the course of a couple weeks of use. I believe you need to buy an additional cover to make them not do that... we no longer use them. We bring them cruising, but we try to just use normal bumpers which seem to act less like sandpaper.

We bought a CRV soon after they were released. My wife just loved that table AND the space under the table doubled as an cooler.

Our old Wellcraft St. Tropez had a water hookup. LOVED it. No filling tanks, and I wouldn't drink the water out of that 1985 tank to save my life...ok, maybe then, but only then.
As for 'sinking' your boat, the checklist includes "TURN OFF WATER TO BOAT". Our marina also had leak detection on the system, if water ran for extended periods of time an alert would trigger to the marina pager system and they would investigate. Our marina crew was awesome. We would see them at least a dozen times a day walking the marina, checking on guests and slip owners alike. Always willing to help that crew was. VERY well tipped they were!

We had a slightly older CRV and the seats folded all the way flat to make a bed too!
A great choice of car. Super reliable. I had an 05, never let me down. I have a 2019 now. Love it. Very easy to drive on long distances, and economical too if you stay around 65
You should have no major problems with you new old CRV. They are amazing cars, I feel better than the newer CRV shape post 2005, I think. I drove a 1999 model for about 15 years, handed it over to my son in 2018'ish, when on 395000 km (245000 miles). He drove it for about a year and a half adding 50K kms to the total. They are great cars. Thanks for the videos and good luck with the new boat refit project you have in mind.

To stop city water flow, instead of a motorized valve I use a wifi irrigator controller. Little cost, super convenience.
You too are a great couple, well suited for each other.
Better than a electric ball valve, I would go for a normally closed solenoid.

For about 20 euro you can buy a mechanical waterstop/aquastop. mostly used for washing machines. Basically a mechanical counter which shuts off when a preset amount of liters have gone through. And there is the 40 euro electrical version which also shuts the water inlet off in case of a power fail. very safe and reliable and cheap.
As I said many months ago when you were working on the cat.
I for one can't wait for your refit of your new cat.
Watching that episode should have told you all you need to know about modern cats. Poorly built and grossly over priced.
Try a 90° bend and full flow isolator with a quick release fitting( as per hydraulic lines) on the outside. You can then just blank off the spigot when you leave the marina, or isolate at the boat which will be much less hassle. But I'm sure you have this sussed! Your tanks should be flushed at least once a week for Legionella. Here's to the next 160k miles on the Honda! Just change the oil occasionally! It's in remarkable condition though. Need for speed... so this is a catamaran, I'm intrigued!

On the comment of "risk to sink your boat", i think that could be mitigated by adding an electric valve at the entry point into the boat. Along with a couple of water level sensors in the bilge + a brain, you could have it so that whenever water is above the sensor level, the valve automatically shuts down. They're not cheap, but then again they're less than a boat. I've this very same system wherever i have water ingress in anything i own. Has saved my proverbial bacon from floods several times now.
3:59 yup. Do it. It's seriously easy to implement in arduino, in your own boat setup it's even easier. Just be sure to not use passive water detection (to be read, the system that reads by making contacts touch) and use an active system. Like a float switch that's out of the water in operation.
You can try to use "U.S. Solid" ball valves. 1/2 valve is easily found on the "rainforest site."

Our 2001 Honda accord is also still running great. The interior still looks brand new, the paint looks perfect, and it has never had a problem even though it has over 200,000 miles. It now resides with our nasa engineer friend. Hondas had great interior materials and excellent paint. And not a single spot of rust.
You can add water to the fenders if they are too bouncy and at risk of popping out from between boat and dock. It is on Fendertex’s site.
Welcome to Florida. I have a sneaking suspicion as to what your next project boat is. Our Seawind 1000 was neighbors in a boat yard not long ago with a great project cat owned by a Swede... Hope that's the boat because it's a badass one to fix up.
I had a 2002 CR-V with a manual transmission for 13 years and 206k miles. That was a really nice car. Only real issue I had was the Canadian version had heated seats but the US version didn't and I live in New England.

Honda CRV is VERY spiffy indeed & looks like you scored a nice specimen. If you're into Habachi Buffets at all, there's a pretty nice one that just opened on Courtenay Pkwy that I'd highly recommend next time you find yourself on Merritt Island.

Coco Beach...Dayton and Orlando are all you ever need to see in Florida...I left the Keys off because they're too close to Miami. I'm just prejudice because I spent my youth from 1958 thru 1971on the space coast every summer growing into a young man.
I decided to fill fresh / drinking water conserved in 6* 25 liter waterbags (Camelbak Squadbak / Source). The advantage is that they are waterproof contained canisters that even with a leakage of a central freshwater reservoir are always safe. And as backpacks they are fillable and transportable at every place.
But my vessel is much smaller than yours....
As water preservative i can reccommend the MIOX water purifier system where you only need some table salt and electrical energy to "produce" an effective desinfectant / preservative based on the chlorine that comes from tablesalt.

On the external water hook up ,add a ninety degree to put less pressure on the hose hookup.
The gen 2 CRV is an excellent car. Be sure to check and change the rear differential oil, this is not a common maintenance item on most cars but it is on this one!
I loved my CRV. Great car for towing a trailer. Back seat down can carry loads of stuff, mowers, brushcutters, chain saws etc. Just get the timing belt changed, as my car came to a stop on the freeway

Had a 2005 CRV until daughter #2 totaled it last year. I bought her a replacement 2010 CRV and I have a 2013 CRV. The newer ones both use oil, but the 2005 engine was a flawless workhorse. The older CRV's all had the same recurring issue, the air conditioner compressors would grenade frequently.
I drive a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am 5 speed manual that has 200,000 kms on it. Still going strong. I used to have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix and finally sold it when it had 425,000 kms on it. Previously enjoyed cars are the best.
Mads, for your back, get a hot water bottle (the rubber ones) and fill it up with warm water for when you go to sleep. Not scalding hot, just warm. Also, there's these semi-elastic 18 cm wide straps that peeps who exercise a lot use, that wrap around your waist. That one helps a lot during the day, like you wouldn't believe just how much it takes away from the little "imps" that "kick your back".
Here's to a quick recovery, from a fellow backpain afflicted individual. PS, have Ava knit it a cover so it's not directly against your skin - keeps it functional for many years that way.
My son has exactly the same model and year of vehicle. Be aware of electrical issues especially the oxygen sensor which is often loosely screwed in place thereby giving false readings. Tighten that sucker if you can reach it otherwise this car runs well. Best wishes
Motorized sanitary ball valves do cost the earth. Water control solenoids ripped out of a dishwasher or washing machine are free. They are small and quite reliable. Just put one of them in line with the float valve in the bilge.

CRV great cars, had lots of them. got one for my son too. you'll love it. they say that model was one of the best cars ever designed, I agree. keep it serviced and it'll go for ever. 2wd with 4wd on demand.
Go check out Banana river marina , in Angel City ten minutes away from you guys. Lots of different kinds of water . Canaveral national seashore park is a must . I was a life guard at jetty park after highschool . Aloha

From personal experience as a Land-yacht liveaboard... I.e. "RV Dweller" it is better to install the Pressure regulator at the spigot before the hose. as a hose that spends all of its life in direct sunlight will become weak, and the high pressure of the city water may cause it to blister and break. Also a high quality filter will help keep the tank clean.
you can put a pressure sensor with the valve so that the water system knows better and you got your floating diver compressor for the fenders 😉🤔

Use the very same setup in my RV. I will say that we added a water filter and that improved our quality of life with water.
At the hardware store I have noticed that they have water lines made for sinks and toilets that if a flush valve or line burst it stops water flow. Basically if the flow exceeds the faucet gph it blocks any water from flooding your house.

Been there hooked up to "city" water. Hose burst (unreinforced tubing). Bilge pump spraying water against the neighbor's boat. Wakened at wee hours of the morning. Big mess. Suffice to say, replaced all tubing with reinforced tubing and added a new protocol to turn off shore water before going to bed or leaving the boat for any period of time.

with the heat down there I would use the water tanks every other week and fill with fresh water when empty to avoid little creatures grow inside the tank...or just run it dry

You should add a valve at the fresh water pump. This is a safety thing to stop shore water pressure bypassing and filling your water tanks.
Was thinking the same thing, but guess it will just pour out of the vent in that case and dont fill up the boat. Would be more safe with a float device in the water tank, but guess it is a bigger installation job and more weak for fails in the shutoff mechanism..?

You could add a solenoid valve to the water line that is normally closed when de-energized and opens when it is powered up. Easier than finding a motorized ball valve and more reliable. Then you could wire in a relay to chop the power to the solenoid (and keep latched off until manually reset) whenever the high water alarm is activated. You could also wire it into whatever circuit or panel you habitually turn off when you leave the boat so it cuts the solenoid when the power is shut off. You could even go crazy and add more logic and automation and even remote actuation and monitoring as well.
Since you are going to be plugged-in the power use of a solenoid won't be an issue but if you do something like this make darn sure the solonoid is rated for a 100% duty cycle even when there is little or no water flow to cool the solonoid valve.
This is basically the same setup many of us with LP gas systems have on our LP supply to shut off the flow of gas when we don't want it flowing in our boats. Our own system has a leak-detection system in the bilge that will cut off the LP if it senses any gas down there. If I did marina pressurized water on our boat I would definitely have such a system or not do it all.
The few times we have stayed in a marina we just filled the tank whenever it got low and kept the hose ready to go. We have never felt it to be a chore especially since we haul the majority of the water we use in jugs from shore in the dinghy. Just turning on a hose at the bollard is a nice vacation from our usual lugging of jugs. We are so used to lugging jugs that we have actually lugged jugs 30 feet when we were at a dock for a day or two and felt it was less work than getting the hose out to top off the tabk and then having to roll it all back up again.
This is the same reason we never plug in at a dock either unless we are leaving the boat and shutting the wind generator off while we are gone. Solar should do OK usually but we have had a big trawler or other large boat end up docking in the next spot and totally block our panels while we were gone and this did the batteries no favors. About the only time we do plug in at a dock is if we are leaving the boat for a few weeks or if it is cold enough to warrant electric space heaters.

10:33 I had a 2005 CR-V which was my daily driver, until I traded it for the wife's new car - 250K miles (multiple FLA trips and long range others) and it was a shame to trade it - it served us well...
Have you ever considered doing exercises on an inversion table? I had back problems for years (herniated disc pushing on nerves) and within 3-4 weeks of using the inversion table my back pain was completely gone and I am pain free for 2 years. This inversion table, although a bit tricky to store, comes traveling with me. ;)
