Marcus Sol thanks Marcus. I was just kidding. We definitely intend to use our private school. And my wife says if I bring the bike home only my NEW wife will be on the back of it!
Honestly man, if your wife says she's gonna be leaving you if you buy a bike, you're better off with someone else. You're your own person, and I understand it takes two people's sacrifice to make a relationship work, but never give something up because someone threatens you with leaving. That's just childish to be honest
It’s crazy, I watched so many reviews on the iron 883 because I loved it from the moment I saw it, and watched plenty of your videos with the iron and your new bike, then I saw the scout and loved that one too. Because of how familiar I got with your style and videos, I feel like this is the review I would trust on the Indian scout. Long story short, thank you for the videos Blockhead.
😯 this statement might have sealed the deal for me to purchase this bike for long cruises. Even though another TH-camr on here say that it's not really meant for it. 😔 someone sell me on it already!!! 😕
As a scout owner, it is NOT for long cruises. You'll get maybe an hour before your butt is numb and you wish you hadn't. I'm thinking about about swapping mine for something more comfortable, like a softail, dark horse, or rock slab.
I test rode a 2016 Indian Scout that was a trade in (for a Chieftain) and had aftermarket slip on pipes. It sounded almost as good as a loud Harley with aftermarket pipes. I love that the bike just pulled and pulled and pulled (even in top gear.) I'm 5' 9" and fit well on the bike. Once I got used to the lower center of gravity, I was good to go.
I am vertically challenged and picked up my first bike Indian 2016 Scout 69 with 3600 miles. Being only 5 ft, it was the first bike I could sit flat foot on. I love it. My only complaint is doesn't have the Harley sound, but changing pipes might make it get that sound. It is a super great bike.
starducky72 I agree about the sound. I went with Vance and Hines 4in slip on exhaust and boy did it wake it up. Lots of TH-cam videos on those pipes. Can’t say enough about how good it sounds. It still doesn’t sound like a Harley, kinda got it’s own distinctive sound which I think is even better because I didn’t want a Harley. Just something for you to check out if interested. Be safe and congratulations on the scout!
@@stonecrusher3603 probably even better than it fits me. Best advice I can give you. Go sit on one at the dealer. Then you can see and buy a preowned or a new one. They start out nicely equipped for $8999.
Just bought a 2018 Scout today. I've always like Indians for a couple of reasons. In the mid-70's, they made a handful of small bikes. 50-125cc. I had the 6-speed, 70cc motocross bike. It was a real competitor at that time. The 125 radial fin put out as much HP as the Honda 125 CR at the time. They were called the Elsinore then. They faded away, I got older and didn't ride any more. I've pondered getting a bagger over the years and always kept my eye on the Indian line for posterity's sake. Keep in mind, I wouldn't buy a bike with a crappy reputation or bad reviews. My best friend of 40+ years had the Indian 4 speed back in the day and today he has a street glide and his son has a soft tail slim. That soft tail is what got me wanting a bike again. He had after-market pipes on it and it sent chills down my spine when I sat on it and fired it up! But, I don't like being like everybody else. I want a Chieftain but I'd have to save for a few years, (I pay cash. Don't believe in debt). But that soft tail just rumbled and I knew I had to have a bike. I went to the dealer in Chandler, AZ today and it happened to be Indian demo day. I knew what I wanted and was ready to deal. I got a Scout with some upgrades. We'll see how it pans out. I'll pick it up tomorrow...My plan is to trade it in in a couple years for a Chieftain. What I wonder is, why do all these reviews slip by all the features and just go on a ride? An example is the one-touch start. My buddy's Street Glide and his son's Soft Tail require you to hold the starter until it's running. The Indian's don't. But they don't point that out. That's actually a good feature. It saves on your starter, etc. All of these reviews are "go-pro" reviews with commentary but never actually address the bikes features. Just the ride, pick-up, braking, etc. Anyway, I'm a first-time "big bike" buyer, big for me anyway. I just found that kind of strange. Update: This review noted the one-touch start but 99% of the reviews never mention it.
The new scouts are so bloody beautiful man. They're mad good looking. The light weight and power to weight ratio is RIGHT up my alley as a skinny dude. Got an old vulcan 500 and this makes so much sense as a progression. How is it for tall dudes? I'm like 6'2" with 32" inseam. I see some increased reach accessories. EDIT: Crap, that 5'11 guy was having trouble. I'm boned. Super torn between this and the Yamaha Stryker 1300.
Tried the scout bobber looks amazing, but is was so painful for my butt to sit on. Went with the Indian Chief Dark Horse instead for my new motovlogging ride. The regular scout is an amazing bike as well. Great review as always bro!
I just got my first bike in 10 years and it’s largely in part to you and her two wheels I’ve been following you guys for a few months now as well as shade tree and chay. I had been thinking sportster just because but when you did the dyno tests and the Indian test ride of the new chief I started thinking Indian and this vide I went to my local Harley shop on my birthday and the bike I had been looking at online was there next to a used dyna the previous owner traded it for that dyna and we got to talking and I worked with his sales guy and I committed to it before it even got brought to the garage. It’s a 2016 scout 60 in red already had saddle bags and sissy bar mustang seat and Vance and Hines all the things I would have done to a stock bike were already done! Thank you BLOCKHEAD!! Love the channel keep up the great work!
I know a tach is not necessary on a cruiser since you usually run in the bottom of the powerband but I prefer to have an analog tach on my instrument cluster. Digital just does not cut it. You can read an analog instrument at a glance. I do like the scout, especially once its modded a bit. That upcoming1200 flat tracker lookalike thats coming out should be a blast.
Your 5'11" friend looks huge on that Scout Bobber! I'm 6'2", and I was planning on getting that bike. Now, I kind'a have doubts that I will fit comfortably.
6'2" as well. Really like the bike, but getting on top of it definitely just felt small in my opinion. For the most part I love everything about it, though I think Indian needs a year or two more to refine the scout. I ended up with a 2018 Softail Street Bob which I felt suited me a lot more and has been a great ride. If you're still looking I'd really recommend test riding that one.
Thanks for the advice, mate. Seeing them in person and taking a ride would be the best way to find out whether or not it's the best fit for me. I remember testing the FZ/MT-07 a while ago, and I have to say that in person it looked ok but once I sat on it, it felt tiny. Too bad cuz I was so looking forward to the XSR700.
I'm a little confused by the specs that were mentioned in this video: 6 gears, 60 cubic inches, and it has a brown leather seat. The Scout has 6 gears, 69 cubic inches, and a brown seat. The Scout 60 has 5 gears, 60 cubic inches, & a black seat. So which bike is in this video?
Nightraid yourface it’s the exact same bike except for the extra 130CC, which in paper they say it’s 78HP for the 60 to 100HP to the regular scout. I have yet to say “man I wish my scout 60 has more power”. I’d go 60, then put the 2 or 3 grand you save into mods.
I bought a Sportster/Roadster in August of 16. Talk about buyers remorse! What an awful piece. The Scout wasn't on my radar and I have nobody to blame but myself. Wish you had published this sooner, Mr. Blockhead!
For anyone testing out the scout. Word of advice. It redlines at 8300 and you don't feel the real power till after 4000RPM . You find yourself bracing yourself at 6000rpm. You can go to 60mph before shifting to 2nd
Not quite 60, you have to go to second for a 0-60 run, but the bike loves no lift shifts. And you are correct about the power, soft rev limiter kicks in at 8300, decent acceleration from 3k-5k. Make sure your ass is firmly planted from 5k-8k.
your tall buddy was on the Scout Bobber which has a bit tighter ergos than the regular scout. The Bobber also has a different seat, I sat on one and I had the same thought as your buddy, I felt like I was gonna slide off the back.
Glad you liked the Indian Scout, they have a lot of balls for an 1130cc power plant. I just bought the Scout Sixty with the 983cc mill and I love it. Not getting rid of my 07 Electra Glide but this is a great solo bike. I believe the red line is about 8000 rpm
I like your videos is there a video on your channel about rev matching to down shift? if not that would be cool I feel like you explain things pretty good.
Hey man, I have a question...in your opinion what do you think is a better bike harley 48 or indian scout bobber (as a first bike, and/or bike in general)? I want to start riding and I want to get a bobber bike, and these two are on the top of my list. Great videos btw!!
Hey Brother, I just need to ask you a question about the headlight grill you installed on your iron 883. I've been looking for it online but I can't find anything that fits on my 2016 883. Could you pls send me the link where you got your headlight grill? Thanks
Obviously I'm not Blockhead , but I'll chime in . You're going to be a little more comfortable than on a Sporty , but if you're eyeballing Indian , you might look at a Chief for a better fit considering your height. Just food for thought . On the other hand , I've seen dudes 6ft + on Sportsters , and they seem to get along fine. Look cramped up though.
I rode the Scout (I think it was 69) last weekend at the indoor test ride track of a motorcycle show. The engine is peppy but the bike felt tiny (in pictures/video it looks bigger) and I hated the mini apes it had (feels like operating a wheelbarrow, only narrower). However, the bike looks good and besides the mini apes was good to ride.
I have one bitch on my 2018 Indian Scout. The grips on the handle bars feels like I'm holding toothpicks. Got some new grips for the Dealership to install on the 500 mile Inspection. Overall from going from a Goldwing back to a Crusier I love it.
Nice bike! I have an Indian dealer literally a stones throw from my place...I'll have to check them out come spring. I had to put my bike away for the winter and I'm missing it already!!! :(
6'1" isn't even close to too tall for a Scout. Actually it is perfect. Maybe you just don't like cruisers? 6'3" or 6'4" is starting to push it but they also make different handle bars to account for that.
I asked about the Indian bikes vs Harley on reddit when doing some investigation of these bikes, and a guy who's a tech for EagleRider came in and explained these bikes very often have starter issues and failures: Hopefully my comment isn't lost in the ether. I work as a service manager for EagleRider, as such I have quite a bit of experience with Indians. I do not like the scouts. They're fun to ride around on. They handle well and they have decent power for what they are. I'd say they're faster than an XL1200. However, they're cheaply made and a pain in the ass to work on. Their starters go out all the time. I regularly have customers on rent with starters that fail or have issues with starting, it just won't get going. The scout starter goes out so frequently, and Indian/Polaris knows it, that they've been on and off backorder for the past 6 months. I can't keep them in stock. Their horns also fail all the time. Now, most bikers don't use the horn. You can't hear them. But if you're the kind of guy that cares, they fail. They suck. The bikes also just generally feel cheap and plastic. Same with the big Indians, though your question wasn't about them. If you like doing your own maintenance the sporty is the far superior choice. To replace an air filter on a scout you have to remove the gas tank, kinda like a crotch rocket. Same with spark plugs. They aren't BAD bikes I just have a distaste for them brought on by seeing their failures and hearing my techs bitch about them far more than they do any Harley model. ~Legionodeath via Reddit.
FranBunnyFFXII I have scout and so do my friends. I personally have never had ANY problems neither have my pals. They are nothing like the comment that your eagle blogger has said.
FranBunnyFFXII ok the first scouts 2015's starters not as good. But since then Indian has really improved on the scout. I have 2017 Scout and have not ridden it two months coz of the winter. Recently one day it brightened up to 40°F, I cranked the start button and out started right away.
EagleRider=rental bikes. Rental bikes=abused bikes. You're going to get a lot of inexperienced riders who don't know how to not be abusive, or ypu're going to the highly experienced who don't want to beat the shit out of their own bikes..
My daughter found out, today, that Dad's new Scout is not the best choice to learn on. New clutch lever is on order. (Owned 24 hours.) I think I'll get her a Monkey, then when she's done learning I'll hang it on the back of my truck so I'm not stuck at truck stops all the time when I'm on the road.
Cubic inch x 16.5 = CC the Scout 60 is 990 cc not 938 it's considered 1000cc bike. I love mine. It's so comfortable and maneuverable. I didn't need to do anything to it.
The 60 is a 5 speed with 72hp and I believe 69lb/ft . So it doesn't lose much in the torque department but you get a bit more hp than a Sporty 1200, but 28hp less than the Scout. Otherwise it is nearly identical to the Scout with less chrome. I honestly think the 60 in certain colors looks better than my Scout.
Mine runs at 174* unless stopped in traffic.I also changed the mufflers, eliminating the cats.I dont notice any excessive heat. I have a Softail Deluxe that really does put out lots of heat. Try going back to the dealer and telling them about your heat problem.
The problem that scares most people is that it's been Indian, Victory, and back to Indian in about 10 years, how long they going to stay in business this time?
Wes Puckdog well if they keep making bikes like this and hd keeps going further and further under, this will be the only american bike brand worth anything.

The engine is peppy but the bike felt tiny (in pictures/video it looks bigger) and I hated the mini apes it had (feels like operating a wheelbarrow, only narrower). However, the bike looks good and besides the mini apes was good to ride.
what do rather to be your 1st bike ! 2018 Indian or 2018 Harley-Davidson ???
how is the suspension on small and big bumps?
Great vid, and I still love your intro music.
Check out the Springfield. Bought one this year because of how comfortable it was.
That may be my next bike after I pay off my Scout, if they don't come out with the FTR1200, that is.
Great video as always. You should test Ride a dark horse next !
What was the engine cc again ??
Would you recommend one for a begginer?
I have one bitch on my 2018 Indian Scout. The grips on the handle bars feels like I'm holding toothpicks. Got some new grips for the Dealership to install on the 500 mile Inspection. Overall from going from a Goldwing back to a Crusier I love it.
Nice bike! I have an Indian dealer literally a stones throw from my place...I'll have to check them out come spring. I had to put my bike away for the winter and I'm missing it already!!! :(
Im 5'3 is that too short?
I knew a girl once who was really 'flickable' ...
Al Crabby hahaha, nice!
This or triumph bobber?
not a fan of Indian but you seemed to be impressed. was it faster than your 110 HD?
It's so quite though and it's a 1100 wish it was a bit of a bigger motor
That dark horse😍 i tried the scout but at 6'1 i found it too small. Nice looking bike tho.
I am 6'2" and i found it comfy when I test rode one
6'1" isn't even close to too tall for a Scout. Actually it is perfect. Maybe you just don't like cruisers? 6'3" or 6'4" is starting to push it but they also make different handle bars to account for that.
@@Denis-bo8ms I'm 6'3" and I feel fine on my scout for about 50-70 miles and then my ass hurts. Ill need to look into a saddle seat.
I like the look that Harley's possess; however, the Indian Scout looks great! I will have to look into both intensively. Difficult choices. Haha
Can someone tell me if the Thunder Black paint is just a gloss paint or metallic?
Mitch Clyman gloss
Gloss
Is that the scout or scout 60?
Do a test ride on the scout bobber
I want the scout bobber so bad! Although I'd be p.oed if they release the ftr 1200 after I make the purchase
Jacob Buenrostro man i want that ftr1200 sooo bad. They need to make that bike.
I have a Scout and I still want the FTR1200. Man I hope Indian and Polaris corporate types peruse these comment sections.
Go for it, the bobber is sick!
FTR1200 is coming out as a 2019 model. Hell yeah
I asked about the Indian bikes vs Harley on reddit when doing some investigation of these bikes, and a guy who's a tech for EagleRider came in and explained these bikes very often have starter issues and failures:
Hopefully my comment isn't lost in the ether.

FranBunnyFFXII I have scout and so do my friends. I personally have never had ANY problems neither have my pals.
They are nothing like the comment that your eagle blogger has said.
He's not a blogger. He's a tech who maintains and repairs the bikes.
Yeah, and it's a pretty good indicator of what will fail faster and what holds up to abuse better.
How’s the suspension?
My daughter found out, today, that Dad's new Scout is not the best choice to learn on. New clutch lever is on order. (Owned 24 hours.)
I think I'll get her a Monkey, then when she's done learning I'll hang it on the back of my truck so I'm not stuck at truck stops all the time when I'm on the road.
Hi blockhead on Indian that hvi rides is similar to iron 883 ? Glad see on other forms of internet like Parton.
Zxxwhat is the price
Exhaust sound on mine is the most complimented part. Just mufflers. RC brand i believe
awsome vlog !
tkx for sharing !
Nicely done! I've been looking for some good reviews on Indians. I don't think I'm interested in the Scout, more likely Chieftain.
Awesome video you should show us more food reviews at ace if you get a chance
Cubic inch x 16.5 = CC the Scout 60 is 990 cc not 938 it's considered 1000cc bike. I love mine. It's so comfortable and maneuverable. I didn't need to do anything to it.
Kim Wallace you're right. I was thinking of what the salesman said instead of just looking in the manual, lol
Was there a dirt bike race there?
Cause if so I was there
Was this the scout 60? How does it compare to the regular Scout?
The horsepower and torque specs he read off of the tank were for the Scout (69 ci),
The 60 is a 5 speed with 72hp and I believe 69lb/ft . So it doesn't lose much in the torque department but you get a bit more hp than a Sporty 1200, but 28hp less than the Scout. Otherwise it is nearly identical to the Scout with less chrome. I honestly think the 60 in certain colors looks better than my Scout.
good vid man !!
You should add what it could sound like with exhaust
How tall are you ?
I have a 2018 scout in town riding the engine heat is over powering will cook your legs
Mine runs at 174* unless stopped in traffic.I also changed the mufflers, eliminating the cats.I dont notice any excessive heat. I have a Softail Deluxe that really does put out lots of heat. Try going back to the dealer and telling them about your heat problem.
Looks great. Untill you sit on it... Hmm the red killswitch looks cheap and i just hate the bars.
The problem that scares most people is that it's been Indian, Victory, and back to Indian in about 10 years, how long they going to stay in business this time?
Wes Puckdog well if they keep making bikes like this and hd keeps going further and further under, this will be the only american bike brand worth anything.
