Today, we look at the three who take the place and see how they fit into the Redwood fleet. I encourage you to see all the entries on the Space Engineers Workshop and all the fantastic creations!

It was an ABSOLUTE JOY to participate. The style of RWI is really different from mine, so it was definitely a challenge. I'm glad I had access to the Phoenix-class and Defender-class, as those were the main inspirations behind the Styx-class.
- The Gyroscope mod: I really wanted to keep the gyroscope number low, so I used a Gyroscope upgrade mod. HOWEVER there is space in the nose, and other areas, to add more Gyroscopes so you don't need to run that mod.
- Survival issues: There lacks a few key survival systems. I wanted to focus on the cinematic aspect of the build, so I forwent some essential blocks. (except jump drives, I just forgot about adding them. lol) However the nose of the ship is just filled with light spaced armor, so plenty of space to mess with.
- Added Challenge: I realized that there was going to be an extra challenge for myself while building the ship... Interior. That's because the width of the ship and what I like to have as an interior clashed with each other ever so slightly.
- Paint scheme: It follows that of the Modern Phoenix-class, which I wanted as a requirement.
- Idea of the Ship: Think of it like the Arquitens Class from Star Wars. It's a supporting ship in a fleet or convoy, but can also be sent alone in areas where larger ships aren't needed. In regards to SE and RWI, I designed the Styx-class as a middle ground between the Defender-class and Phoenix-class. It's faster than a Defender-class, but more armored than a Phoenix-class.

Someone agrees with what I said, a cruiser would be good as the centralised ship for fleets that don’t have Daedalus classes seen as there are only 4 of those left, that we know of
Do weaponized hovercraft and giant mobile base battles. I just feel like big mobile bases and hovercrafts in particular don’t get enough attention.
I agree New Fang has on his channel.
But that was some time ago.
Maybe compare legacy models to their modern contemporaries and see what particular improvements have happened and how they affect them.

Congrats to all the winners, this was a super fun project! I'm super impressed with all the other builds, they each have something special about them and you can tell how much work went into them all. I hammered out that lore entry in about 5 minutes as I tried to get the Cyclone submitted on time, but I really like your idea of it being an older, heavier design. I think it suits it well! Looking forward to seeing it in action.
id like to see some more utility ships that are more rugged as well as some starbases

Mines was a modified variant of a Strident class heavy frigate, I thought it was quite good but maybe the only issue bar it’s small reactor room was its larger size. It was still within the competition guidelines though

I'd suggest doing a fighter challenge with two categories: interceptor and bomber

The Cyclone Perfectly recognizes the design characteristics of the Reliant Class and Phoenix Class. The Styx is an efficient, and cheaper compact defender escort ship for minor commanders. The Stockholm is an amazing blend of different building styles, specifically expressing inspiration from both Royal Coalition and Redwood. Three very amazing ships that were rightfully picked as winners for this contest.*^ 👏👏👏
My favourite was actually Omega’s Stockholm class. Just looked the best inside and out IMO but lacked the firepower of the Cyclone
As much as I like my Styx, I agree with you. I honestly love the way the Stockholm looks. Haha
Yea the Stockholm is really nice looking, I hope the other two winners get screentime too because I'd love to see em do their thing in the RWI universe
Yeah, I think that if they’re all used in conjunction that offers basically every benefit you need in an operation
I remembered I originally wanted to partake in this competition back when it started but honestly, I think my build style wouldn’t have blended with the design of the RWI. So I think I’ll just keep designing ships for my own TH-cam series
I wanna see a battle between all of them, to see which one REALLY comes out on top!

18:00 The Cyclone's interior color could be change for a dark-gray, giving more easy view on how to find yours way through the corridors, because a complete pitch black color, like you've saw it, it's more a problem for the Cyclone's crew, than for a potential enemy who may try to invade that ship.
For the 1st ship, it can be used with 2 mining ship, in space, or mining rover on a planet, with it's 2 refinery integrated within it, it can be used as a mobile factory, refining scraps from destroyed ship, or mining asteroids, to provide ammunition and resources for the rest of the fleet. Without forgetting de Deuterium needed for the various space-ship generators.
So it's "Supply" job has a real duty in a large scale fleet, to ensure the fleet can be ready-to-battle, after every encounters.
P.S: Your FOV is at 60? Or you have a zoom activated ? i find the FOV too much zoomed, strangely on that video :o
Star fighters sounds fun. I could definitely see Freespace/Freespace 2's Hercules fighter meshing great with RWI's style. Plus its bulky style will fit in with being a dedicated space fighter. It would also be able to be fairly heavily armed and armored.
perhaps an escort class competition would be good to do next? Basically smaller, cheaper, and made for a crew of 2-5. A lot of large ships I see are so detailed and beautiful, but making smaller large block ships seem to be more difficult to add detail without using a mix of small and large blocks. Also not played in a while, so maybe smaller types of large block ships are more detailed now, but I still think it would be a cool competition none the less :D
Edit: Just got another idea from the 2nd place, for a civilian transport, perhaps like a passenger/cruise ship with rooms and an emphasize on aesthetics over defense.
Perhaps he could do a team vs team dreadnaught design challenge, it could be individuals but I feel like a dreadnaught is a little too big for one person. I’m also loving other people’s ideas of utility ships and hovercraft.
I know I am three months late to this but a dreadnaught is indeed much for a single person. I have tried to make them in the past and it never really worked. Partially because at the time I had properly finished one ship and lacked the experience to make it.
as someone with a lot of experience in se i like all of the ships just because they are all easily retrofittable and decently robust, i think my favorite is the cyclone just because of how much room it leaves for changing and the fact that it could easily be survival ready. nice job
I see the cyclone like the A10 of Army, something people see and they know they have support .. great design 👌
I see it more like the BUFF. Old, but will outlive everything meant to replace and will likely be fighting for eternity
I love how the Stockholm feels like an MCRN ship in a universe where ships aren't built skyscraper style. From the nameplate going down the side, to the interior styles, it just feels Martian through and through. The color palette helps too!
styx class also could work hell as a decently armed courier ship for moving around supplies and people in areas where say pirates are a concern.
Sadly I didn’t design it with any large cargo containers. It only has small ones for ammo and supplies for the crew. So it wouldn’t really fill that role of armed courier, well. It would work better as a convoy escort.

Also, Captain Jack: Have you heard of a game called Nebulous fleet command? And if so, are you interested in it? I am currently learning to mod so I can make an RWI mod for it with RWI, RCSP, CNL, and any other factions I can get my hands on a decent roster for
The way I see the Cyclone-class is a case where the Older Model of a Ship being better then it's supposed replacement but the cost of building them was just much higher then the newer, more economical model and thus didn't produce them in overwhelmingly high numbers unlike what is done with the Phoenix-class. Sure, the Cyclone-class would rip a Phoenix-class in two real quick but you can't have your fleet full with them cuse it bring your budget to zero and can't have any Dreadnaughts made that they are suppose to support.
Maybe the next ship challenge is an auxiliary ship design (auxiliary here meaning support) like medical frigates, engineering/construction/mining ships aka non Frontline ships that were never meant for any sort of actual combat

Yeah Redwood could use some sort of cruiser for its fleet.
Yeah cause it’s got now several different frigate and then it skips a few classes of ships and jumps straight to Battleship. Also I don’t think any of the Xbox ships made it into the featured ones either
Or a battleship for that matter. Now hear me out I know the daedalus exists and the odyssey is well on its way but there should be a ship somewhere in between the two with lots of armour, firepower and shields
Like a battlecruiser instead perhaps? Or maybe just a dedicated carrier, the Daedalus is a heavy ship made for fighter deployment and frontline battle but there isn’t a genuine carrier kind of ship
@@Viper99667 the daedalus fits the role of a battlecruiser well enough.
Dedicated carriers could be interesting though.
For the ramps there is a mod that works reasonably well is mcm boarding ramps the version by spartan is updated the downside is that it only has two sizes for large grid and small grid though the angled hangar doors mod might also work as a ramp but the hit boxes are a bit weird if I remember
Your equivalent of a BSG style raptor, support ship for fighter support, ecm and rocket pods

I feel like RWI needs a dedicated carrier as well as a corvette, as while the ECLIPSE is a corvette I assume it's lore is a one off for you so you can make smaller battle groups for fringe RWI worlds

The Styx class would sorta work as a blockade runner like the Hammerhead Corvette from Rogue One where it would fly in do some damage and distract hostile battleships and then clear out
How many of those ship's will be built in a dry dock and ready for the fleet. When is the next event for RWI like fighters, bombers, starbase, dry docks along with the battleship and maybe even a aircraft carrier for the pilots to land and take off.
I got a suggestion, use ARYX enterprise weapons, there are tons and they look amazing

I swear, in rp, you will use the Styx in the background instead of defenders as a replacement to your grunts, the ships to be destroyed by the big bad. And I'm all for it.

I would limit the Styx class to a large to small dedicated jump drive. IE it's unable to handle the large one due to it's pocket size.
Yeah maybe. What really happened is that I am kind of forgetful when designing stuff (thanks ADHD brain). In reality I meant to have 1-2 jump drives. Thankfully the nose is pretty hollow once you clear out the space armor, so plenty of space to create a Jump Drive room. Haha

I would’ve submitted mine but I ran out of time and couldn’t complete the interior.
Do a retrieval ship an example could be a rover retrieval or a a transportation ship
So my only concern is that these ships are all following an ocean going ship paradigm. I would be concerned about the long axial corridors … ‘cause physics.

really can't do these types of competitions, the problem is i start building an appropriate sized ship, then it just mutates into something bigger... a corvette becomes a frigate or destroyer, a destroyer becomes a battle ship, a cruiser becomes a dreadnaught.. and battleships and dreads well, become massive HEAVILY armed and armored beasts that tax my system to it's limits vary quickly.. one ship had a broadside weapons array with over 100 small ship gats attached to a large ship on each side... and it's nose had THREE atlas super lasers.... 4 hangers, nuke missile launchers, and many many many turrets all on a ship wrapped in double thick HEAVY armor.... i think it's main engine was a Titan thruster or more... all done before weapon core btw.. so some mods would need updated or replacement versions.. not even sure the nuke missile launcher mod has EVER been redone to work w/weapon core....
