New-ish casual player. Got off Earth in survival and now almost full-time in space and headed to the moon next. The dumpster fire really hits home. I managed to capture the pirate salvage station, and after multiple tries, the Pirate military transport. Initially, I had them stitched together like some sort of waterworld/frankenstein's monster theme but recently broke the military transport free and now I use it to cruise to things I want to take a look at before I move the station. I wish I had started playing this game a year ago. It has been a lot of fun so far.
Got a decent base, earned all the stuff to develop a shuttle to break gravity. On my 3rd trip I found ice on a asteroid and made myself a air pressured cabin where. Found more ice, platinum even uranium and built myself a mobile base. Now I jump around the resources to fill up my storages while using a mining ship launching from where to do the mining. Also I have a welding ship and the planetary shuttle docked and continue to built on the base in the hope that the cursed brick may one day look like a decent mothership. Also even with it being huge I still dock my ships outside on the hull because I still don't have a hangar. I fear if I ever get it complete, my computer will explode or the moon leave orbit if I try to maneuver it, lol.
@@IneptOrange well, my first ship got a, steering problem and crashed into a mountain...... The second made it to 0.4G and run out of hydrogene. So I built a 3rd, with more hydrogen storage capacity and the ability to produce hydrogene from ice. Ist worked out, but I found a dozen asteroids but none with ice, so eventually I needed to return to earth. Refilling Storage of Hydrogene and Ice with planet based production and the 4th mission to space worked out. Where is a "death zone" in which atmospheric engines don't give enough Frust anymore, but ion engines still don't do the trick. Not enough atmosphere for atmospherics, but still to much gravity for ions. So you definitely need Hydrogene engines, but these burn through a shitload of hydrogene in no time. So you need much of it.

Whenever I watch these videos, and especially the showcase ones, I really end up with some seriously conflicting emotions. On the one hand I find the creations awesome and inspiring - but on the other hand, as someone struggling to create ships that barely pass as decent in design, I feel gutted with jealousy. Even the simplest ships shown here are light years ahead of even the best of my creations.
don't worry, I am in the same boat, it just takes time to nail it I suppose. O7 Edit: also, I realized that rather than thinking a design is bad, its better to leave it for a while and come back rather than just scrapping it.
@@floppyglot The main problem for me is that I image ships in a fluid and almost organic design; I want to make ornate swirls and gentle wave like curves. But to do so in this game takes incredible skill, or else the shape won't flow and details will be impossible to integrate, and I definitely lack that skill. I still have a handful of ships that are at least ok. But nothing like the stuff you see in showcases. But I definitely agree with you on the matter of not giving up. There is always something that can be done. And the longer you work on something the better it will be. The best ship by far that I have is called the Julius. It is undeniably tiny for a capital style ship - but I spent week after week perfecting each square inch. And yet it still isn't quite good enough.
Dont feel bad. My "best" design so far was an overly nimble cube that i ended up crashing in a hanger on my private single-player. Also couldnt handle having any additional weight on it

Well, small things, scouts fighters, I may achieve to get decent looking, but as soon as you are meant to walk around on board..... It's "The return of the Jedi" er*** The Brick strikes back I meant. Also I get masses which are insane, these guys build complete working stuff with me just build the main engine room....
All those large ships are quite lovely but I gotta say the last one with that parasite look to it would be my favorite just due to how original it looks.
That little blue ship at 3:04 is a light freighter that does all the various utility jobs for ASI. Jump capable, with a conveyor pipe for tool attachments of various sorts, and spots for ore detector, basic refinery and basic assembler as needed. Also useful as a long range scout and fuel tanker with it's large fuel tank. This latest version has rockets so it can fight if needed. Main service currently is as printer tug and jump module for attack craft going into high risk engagements.
The ship you are saying looks like an engine at 16:15 is the front half of a ship called the Zarek Hunter from a game called Fractured space (RIP) which has a lot of amazing ship designs. Unfortuneatly the game was abandoned as there were not enough players to support it.
Im a console player. I have all the expansions but everytime I sit down to play again, I'm reminded that "If you build it, there will be nothing else to do". Are there any console mods that actually add far off worlds or stuff to explore yet? Most of the world mods won't work on console.
I always build giant ships. I keep thinking on how to prevent this and that. I even made a ship that could self-repair all vital components. Major dreadnaughts that stood unchallenged against anything game and mods could throw at me, but... even though I made them with other crewmembers in mind... I've never played with other players. All of those ships were built so I could use them solo and yet always put in things for other players as well. Such as a carrier/mobile base that could take down any enemy, but also could house fighters and mining ships that I've never used or made. A lounge area and sleeping quaters. I really need to stop creating such monstrosities.
No, never stop. Upload the blueprints to the workshop like some kind of madman throwing out the pages of the necronomicon into a sea of Cthulhu's tears.
There should be a server that only allows 2 ships and their subgrids (and drones) ... and well you gotta fight till deth so all players bring their expertise to the board to build the best turrets ... the best fighters the best drones
Google Fractured Space Zarek Hunter. Fractured Space had some uniquely industrial ship designs and hes building the Hunter class, and my god does he do a good job.
That skinny MAF ship was a mini UNSC Infinity. Then obviously you have the Pillar of Autumn to go with the 2 martial ships from the expanse. The RaB ship at 19:46 is a Raider class corvette. An Imperial ship

I have to admit on that first Construction Ship.. that Cockpit is both in a very convenient and HORRIBLE position, amazing for Planets, horrible for Space

Hello so DnD owns Frosty's grid / base, everything there is owned by DnD. To add on we took those 2 damaged grids pyro & the white and green 1 (G's) as we got going to repair, them and use them in are fleet
You should make a copy of the worlds before they get reset and set them up sometime in the future as a server will old abandoned base for the players to salvage
When i buy se i will definetly make a ship that can carve a asteroid into a sphere and then carve ints inside out to fit stuff in it. A great armor for space station that doesnt cost me anything instead it pays me in materials.
I'm still learning my chops in survival. But eventually it would be cool to join up with some guys on a server like, especially if the philosophy toward PVP is that: it is more fun for everyone if it is more than just an outlet for psychopathy!
