Great how to video, Daniel! I liked the valve grinding compound as a finishing touch. “If you’re old enough to know what this is, you’ll know where to get it. “ Perfect!
Great tips. I’ve had issues with bridles wearing through on rough shark fins, and I’ve lost two good fish so far from the exact issue you made the video about. I’ve since just gone to tying the loop onto the shark fin holes but I’ll absolutely be doing this in the future. Huge fear of mine and I’m checking dyneema after every shot I take out of paranoia
Daniel good day to you. As usually you give professional advice. Thank you very much. I don't know maybe in all world somebody gives the same information too, but here in Morder, I sobscribed on your chanel and use many recommendation. Thank you for your job!
Thanx for the tip mate, always love your videos, im a huge fan and have learnt alot from watching your content, please keep it up, and keep well, greetings from Durban in South Africa
Thanks mate! You’re 100% right with the dyneema! I’ve had it gray so many times. This video is gold for anyone looking to protect their wallets from expensive shaft replacements. Can you show us the glove friendly quick release knot from the shooting line to the reel line?!
I love these practical tips. Seems like details, but as an angler I learned to realize the importance of getting the details right. Imo also large part of what separates the pros from the rest. In your experience, is this an issue with cheap spears or just generally an issue?
I have lost two of my spears 😢 and now im left with non...and i cant go spearfishing now....next time i get a spear ill definitely do this thank u for the information.....love your content keep up
Great timely video Dan as where coming up to pelagic season in aus. Im gonna go out on a limb and guess Gumption or toothpaste would work as a cheaper more readily available source of polishing paste¿?
It may work but valve grinding paste is designed to be abrasive for metal. It’s not expensive but I’m sure there are other abrasives that would work also.
Awesome vid. Such an important bit of information. Lost what should of been a world record mutton snapper in Islamorada using a brand new Omer shaft. That shaft was my backup shaft, however 2 dives earlier I lost my original shaft when a massive bull shark taxed my black grouper, as a result I used my back up shaft with 300 Lb mono line and I lost it on my first shot on what I believe was a 24-26 Lb mutton snapper. The mono snapped within 2 seconds of being dragged. Lesson learned.
I love watching your videos and Oi learned already a lot from it . Thank you for that. When seeing some videos I noticed you are using 5mm gloves etc. in water which is like 10 degrees cold. But according to the products 7mm is made for 16-10 degrees, so my question is do you think I can use a 5mm suit in spain in winter when the water is like 13 degrees or will I be to cold? happy hunting
Depends on how long you are in the water for and the style of diving you’re diving. If it’s long breath holds in deeper water you’d probably get cold after an hour. If it’s shallow up and down hole hunting maybe longer. For me I would be using a 7mm suit in 13°C.
Faster to reload as the fish doesn’t get stuck on the shark fins when you go all the way through the fish. Also better for hole fishing as you can always pull the shaft back out from the rear. Plenty of reasons to use one or the other.
I don't swim in the ocean. I, therefore, don't spear fish in the ocean. Nevertheless, Daniel has kept my interest in a video I'll unfortunately, never make use of. ( but on an environmental of note - a fish specifically selected, speared and brought to the plate and not lost is a win). Thanks Daniel. (who has been bitten by a shark, I'll add)
what do you use to restore the coating afterwards? i'm thinking about to do that on my salvimar shafts or better on the sharkfins. they are nice but not perfect
You don’t need to do anything to stainless steel shafts. The ones that are a bit brown coloured is just from the heat treating so not a protective layer as such. Certainly nothing like a Rob Allen spring steel shaft, you need to use zinc-it or spray gal on those.
Hi Daniel ~ I'm a new spearo and I'm struggling with how to improve my shooting. The fish move so fast that there’s no time to aim😅I was wondering if you have some tips to share or if you could make a video about this?😊
Excellent tip for an excellent tail. 👍😁 Got an expensive pair of Italian work boots a few years ago and had to take a round needle file to the eyelets as the laces were shredding inside a week. Looking to get my first set of long fins. Experienced swimmer but fairly new to diving (have spent this season on scuba fins). Tall and slim, somewhere over 80kg, had thought medium stiffness. Chris at SpearfishingUk kindly replied to my enquiry suggesting soft. Now all confused. 🤪 Would medium be too fatiguing? Would soft lack punch? 🤔 Any advice welcome. Mark
Depends on which brand fins. I use soft DiveR’s and I’m about 76kg, perfect for me and I know a few other friends in the 80-90kg range that use them as well.
Depends what is important to you. I haven’t used either camera but I can say my Osmo action 3 hasn’t failed me once. Every GoPro I’ve had has failed me many times so to me the most important thing is being reliable.
@@DanielMann i need better quality videos which one is give better quality videos . Brother please give your mobile number i have some doubt in spearfishing
If it’s a coated shaft it’s always going to rust once the coating gets worn off from shooting fish or shooting into sand. You can sand it down and apply something like zinc-it to it but if you want zero rust, stainless steel is the way to go.
First thing you need is to stop shooting with mono and switch to using dyneema as your shooting line. There are multiple advantages that I won’t go into.
I can’t stand dyneema as a shooting line. Bulky knots, tangles on everything and zero memory making reloading slower. Despite our preferences, sharp spear holes are always going to win against dyneema or mono.
Great how to video, Daniel! I liked the valve grinding compound as a finishing touch. “If you’re old enough to know what this is, you’ll know where to get it. “ Perfect!
I always said Dan knew how tp polish a hole. Good job Dan.🙃

I use an abrasive line, but I think your version is more cost-effective. Thanks for that one!

Excellent video.
General gear maintenance (or lack there of) has resulted in many an epic fish being lost.
It’s one factor you can control 😁
Great tip Daniel. Thank you!

All the 1%’s add up to a big difference. All sorts of shafts have this problem, not just cheap ones.

All too common this problem with shafts sadly! Hurts even more with world class fish.
Hey @Daniel Mann, when is Croatia video coming out? Cant wait for it :)
Only just left the country yesterday! Probably a month I'd say. Got a few videos to do before that.
Awesome tip , thank you for sharing 🎯🔥🙏🏼
Great vid as always!
Nice info, well done. Nice solution. Valve grinding paste, now that took me back LMAO! Stay safe, have fun! 👍👌🍻
It gave me shudders about my 86 Corolla too 🤣
Great advice. Thanks
Excellent video here. Did I hear you say that there is no need for this on rob allen shafts? Did I hear that correctly?
I’ve never had this issue with Rob Allen shafts. They are always impeccably finished.
Great advice. Just busy preparing for a trip to Fiji. Have you done any video on setting up a sliptip? I can’t seem to find anything on your channel…
I’ve not used sliptips a great deal. Only in Tonga a long time ago.

Hello Daniel, why do you use this type of shaft? And not the one with the hole at the top on the shark fin?

Daniel what's the best gun you can get for freshwater with fish from 1-ten kilos
A Dremel tool cuts down the time... but de-burring your shaft is smart fishing!

Why not just use line saver?
Those protective spring type things? They don’t fit through the holes very easily. Plus fix this problem once and it’s done.
Very good
its not gonna happen on salvimar shafts
Wow nice
Use dyneema ...
Same thing happens…
First thing you need is to stop shooting with mono and switch to using dyneema as your shooting line. There are multiple advantages that I won’t go into.
Explain please
Completly agree. The best part is no part.
So many things can go wrong with monoline.
Hole snaping, crimp snaping, crimp edge cutting mono.
I can’t stand dyneema as a shooting line. Bulky knots, tangles on everything and zero memory making reloading slower. Despite our preferences, sharp spear holes are always going to win against dyneema or mono.
