Mike worked hard for the setup to this joke, but it was funny enough that it was 100% WORTH going back in time to the 90's and getting them to make this shitty movie, and then to make a game based on it.
I used to own this as a kid. After you complete a mission you have to collect clues to find the next location and there is a specific time you have to be there at. If you don't find it in time, you miss the mission. It's a cool idea, too bad the execution is so poor. If you do an AVGN episode on this, please play a bit more, so you can show this too.
Ironically, in an age where the mobile and AAA markets are flooded with so many loot boxes, pay-to-win microtransactions, attempts to join the “live service” gold rush, countless different editions released at once to overwhelm and confuse customers, half-baked releases relying on the promise of later patches, PC launcher exclusivity deals, always online connectivity requirements, etc. we could really benefit from more developers and publishers taking that quote to heart.
I feel like every single thing that has to do with "Batman & Robin" was some sort of wacky scenario like in "The Producers" where everyone involved was just trying to make the worst thing they possibly could.

It's kind of a shame, the game is clearly very ambitious for the time. Practically open world with lots of different features, and pretty solid models and textures. It's just hampered by the design limitations of the era. 3D control schemes didn't really get worked out until later in the generation with the standardization of analog sticks. The darkness is in part there to mask the low draw distance.
@@Selrisitai Aside a few exceptions i see that low draw distance quite often on the PSX era, and just as often hidden with darkness, or Fog that became iconic for a franchise or two. ;) Darkness was spot on for Batman, particularly since most of the action in the B&R movie itself is at night. I remember most if not all Tomb Raider games in the PS1 had a similar situation, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver had it too...
Long ago, I rented this game and did the big mistake of not taking the instruction manual. Movesets were not explained in the game, so I got stuck really quickly.

funny thing is, although it is pretty terrible, it actually is kind of impressive. it had a fully detailed open world gothem with a city map...in 1998 on the ps1, you could rotate between three characters with different vehicles, and it had a real time detective system where if you didn't solve or find clues in time, you could actually miss crimes taking place. this is pretty damn ambitious stuff.
Nothing's sadder than a game that tries it's hardest to be innovative and falls flat on it's face, batman: dark tomorrow is even worse in some ways since they had you do stealth with a camera that was like Resident evil!
It might have actually been a decent game back in the day, it just hasn't aged well. I've never played it myself, but it certainly doesn't look that bad to me. The two main issues seem to be the controls and lack of direction. The controls can probably be forgiven, because tank controls were a thing back then. They aren't good, but you do get used to them and they are tolerable. Resident Evil and Silent Hill had them, and both were(and still are) fantastic games. However, the lack of direction isn't so forgivable. That was a problem with many NES era games, but this is a 1998 PS1 game. By that time you almost never saw that issue come up in any game whatsoever, so that is certainly a rather big flaw. But overall, I think they are being a bit unfair. You have to judge a game based on when it came out. You can't judge an old game by today's standards, because that's obviously very unfair.
Ironically, it was actually delayed numerous times lol. Evidently, the people who were in charge of making this game come to life just royally screwed it up completely. It’s utterly poopy.

Resident Evil controls are fine, and haven't changed much from 1-7. You still press up to move forwards and left and right to turn. It's just the perspective and camera angles that are different.
LJN never had a video game development team. LJN was only a publisher of video games. All of the video games that were distributed by LJN were developed externally by other companies.

I remember saving for months to buy this game when i was a kid. I got so pissed how bad it was i kept playing until i switched from loving batman to hating him....

Resident evil controls suck. They are at least playable when you get used to them.
Resident Evil controls are fine, and haven't changed much from 1-7. You still press up to move forwards and left and right to turn. It's just the perspective and camera angles that are different.

LJN never had a video game development team. LJN was only a publisher of video games. All of the video games that were distributed by LJN were developed externally by other companies.
If there is one thing I like about this game, it is that the game actually has some nice graphics and the city looks actually not so bad!
