About Young Royals:

the fact that the actors are not twenty eight years old playing teenagers makes this show waaay more relatable and lovable, I really appreciated that while watching it

Yes!! I've always hated the idea of having to "come out" and it being this big, shocking event. Do hetero people have to "come out"? No, because it really shouldn't matter who, or what, you like, to anyone other then yourself! :)

@@DylanB05 I couldn't agree with you more on this, nobody should have to ever come out because people are people and deserve to love who they love regardless of what others thinks about it,I was fortunate though that my family was very understanding and accepting,my mom told me as long as I was happy she was happy and that meant the world to me because not only was I scared coming out to my mom more than anyone,but the reaction I got from her shocked me because all she gave me was her love and support completely. I really feel bad though for those who have came out to there family and they didn't want anything to do with them anymore,it's sad really and nobody should be made to feel bad ever for loving who they love but thankfully the world seems to be alot more accepting now than it was like 50-60 years ago,were lucky to live in the times we live in now,but we should never forget the one's that came before us having to endure what they did because they are the one's that paved the way for us to be more accepted and deserve our praise especially the United States supreme court standing with the LGBTQ community making gay marriage legal in all 50 states now.

Okay but let's talk about how their chemistry is literally what makes this show's intimate scenes shine above all others. The passion isn't over-sexualized, it's not graphic or even trying to scream at you "you're watching a gay couple!!" They're just two teenagers who have fallen completely in love and it's wonderful! This show has to get season 2 right now!

Another thing that I like the most in this show is they didn’t even bother to cover the skin acne! I love how they show off their real skin. I love how the production shows that even if you have acne’s you will not be considered as less human. Acne’s are part of being a teenage! It really help me boost my self confidence. My acne’s would never stop me for being confident.
Yes you're right. I've seen so many people on social media insecure about their skin. I loved it when they showed the main characters with flaws in their skin like they have in their characters. That's just what makes humans humans. Nowadays social media is all about being perfect. I hope Young Royals will set a trend where it's cool to show you're not perfect. Where it'd be cool to show we're all humans with flaws of our own

I love how the entire show isnt based of a big coming out story or like homophobic people. This is a much more realistic representation of lgbtq+ in highschool
that's what we need in real-life as well...
It depends a lot on where you live and what the people around you are like. More often than it should be, realizing you're queer IS about homophobia and finding the courage to come out (and this show includes that as well). But it's not all there is to being a teenager, and even if you stop doing most things out of fear of people noticing somehow, you don't need to be reminded of that with everything you watch.

I also worry about them a bit. I have an 18 year old son. Can not imagine him having all this attention coming his way. They have like 5-600K followers on Instagram.
I really hope fans will leave them alone, and just let them be close friends. That they can post BTS from set if we get a season 2, etc. They seem to have a good head on their shoulders, and they are both used to being in the limelight. But it can be too much for them all this. Edvin has been open about anxiety and stuff.
And I really, really feel for Malte 🥺 Like, his character has his face, and people hate August so much. Malte is just the sweetest ❤️

One of my favorite moments was how casually Simon reminded his dad he's gay. I would've killed for that type of confidence when I was a closeted teen!

His dad’s response was great. Granted, Simon’s dad has got some personal demons, but at least he’s supportive of Simon’s sexuality.
And his dad didn’t make a huge deal out of it like they would in every other Netflix show
I liked what Edvin mentioned about not putting a label on Willes sexuality. I think this is one of the best ways to normalize falling in love with someone of the same gender. This is actually one of the few series portraying a teenagers life that I can relate to. Or at least I can feel an emotional connection with the characters. The actors and writers really did a great job!

About the question, why Simon is so chill with his sexuality: I also think, that, different than Wilhelm, he doesn’t have the burden of anyone really caring about it. He‘s not a famous or 'important' person, who people will come at, cause they don’t give a shit about him anyways.
Simon also realized he's gay since very young. He had time to come to terms with his sexuality, came out to his family who accepted him...It is implied that Wilhelm is falling in love with a man for first time , so it's normal to not be "chill" at first.

so glad to hear they used an intimacy coordinator. this show is progressive in so many ways. i really appreciated that simon never forced wilhelm to come out or villainize him because he wasn't ready to. he was completely understanding and told him to do it when he's ready, while also respecting himself and stepping away because that's not what he wanted. i love this so much, omg.
Yeah, from what I've seen it's SUCH an important role on set for the actors to feel safe and comfortable. I'm incredibly happy it kinda becoming the norm. Not entirely... but I've noticed it's been happening more and more frequently. 😊

You should know that your series has garnered if not million, thousands of international fans. The series was prrfectly portrayed. The cinematographic was really beautiful. The storyline was perfectly and the actors/actresses are super talented. It is crucial for you to know that, we really keen too see the 2nd season of this series. We are looking forward to it! Much love, your international fans.
Sadly, the decision is all down to viewing figures at the end of the day. Netflix is a business after all and they will only consider a 2nd season if the first season has been/will be financially successful. Relying on just the LGBT community to watch this may not be financially viable. It will need a viewing audience from the wider world to make this a success - and that may well happen. We will just have to wait and see and we will know in a few months once all the results have come in.

Edvyn is so right when he says "the kissing scenes are insanely good." That they were choreographed came as a bit of a surprise but on reflection, I'd say most of what happens on a set is. The two boys came to their parts well prepared and have thought a lot about their characters, and it shows in the way they portrayed them, allowing their onscreen chemistry to come to the fore as we, the viewers, become totally absorbed and immersed in their personal dramas. Not only are these boys dealing with falling in love with a person of the same gender at a boarding school, they also have to deal with coming out or not and for Wilhelm, what this means for him as the Crown Prince of Sweden. That adds a whole new level to your average BL series, which this certainly isn't, not least because it's from Europe instead of Asia. From what I've seen, there has been nothing but universal acclamation for this series and for Netflix, it must be a no-brainer they MUST continue with a Season 2 and let it go to a final Season 3.
couldn’t agree more - although the kissing scenes are mostly choreographed, there are a couple of them that are actually improv, which i just think makes it even better than it already is. This series is such a breath of fresh air and feels so authentic to the experience of many people within the LGBTQ+ community (apart from the prince aspect, but there’s still parallels to be drawn there)
The choreography helps with camera angles. It’s easier to get the different shots if the actors do the same thing for each angle take of the shot.

it's interesting how this show, about a prince in a boarding school, is so much more relatable than many other highschool dramas out there, showing seemingly "regular" people's lives. it shows how good the writing, directing and acting is here. well done everyone who played a part in creating this amazing show, @Netflix PLEASE RENEW FOR SECOND SEASON!! PS. It seems like everyone is rewatching it multiple times, I'm on my 5th watch now, it's something of a phenomenon I think :)
also forgot to mention the incredible camera action. DOP did such o good job we can almost taste the emotions, be it love or anxiety, it oozes from the screen. the hand held camera following the actors as they walk in urgency, the in and out of focus. it's so so good
YESS!! EVERYTHING YOU SAID!! + portraying their emotions through their eyes and body language, saying so much without uttering a single world, and being intimate without being overly sexulised were also some of the parts i loved

Yes yes yes. Omg. This series impacted me so much as i related and felt so connected to the characters. This is one of the most realistic shows out there, and really does an incredible job of making you feel just as emotionally vulnerable as the characters do. You hold your breath during every conversation. You feel what the characters feel. Because they are so real, and everything from the lines to the acting to the camerawork does amazing at really showing the emotions.

The kissing+s3x scenes were soooo tender. Like I love them. They were sooo sweet. Not sexualized at all. I also love how Wilhelm just scoops simon in him whenever he hugs him. Those touches, caresses were sooo sweet. Chemistry is on fire. Rewatched this show for the 8th time now. 😍😍😍😍😍

I just finished watching the entire season and I have NEVER felt like this because of a tv series. I got butterflies watching the two and I love how it was so diverse with having people with different backgrounds, skin types, sexualities, etc without making it so obvious but rather normalized. Compared to American gay (or even straight) teen romance, this wasn’t very sexual but rather defined how love is love and if you love someone, you are willing to put up a fight.

Ok, well., let’s separate their work/acting career, from their real life personal life. We don’t even know their sexualities in real life, but one thing is for sure, they both are very comfortable with play gay roles. What was funny to me was, I forgot this was Sweden and not America, because I’m pretty sure at the time of producing this show, Omar (Simon) was 21, and Edvin (Wilhem) was 17. So I was confused on how they made the more intimate parts of this show work at first, and also surprised Simon is 22. He looks young. Could pass for 16/17 tbh.

They're exceptionally well-spoken which makes Edvin and Omar a joy to listen to. Equally intriguing, though, is their genuine interest in each other's thoughts and comments.
The casting of Edvyn and Omar together was a phenomenal choice. I believe at some point the casting director and director must have just started high-fiving each other, filming some of the scenes. Edvyn with his experience and charisma kills it, he carries all the scenes he's in, but Omar MY GOD for a first time actor he blows it out of the park. Seriously. What a revelation!
@@mellowtopia5376 I completely agree. There is nothing in Omar's acting that suggests he hasn't been acting for some time now. Until I read something saying it was his first acting job, I had no idea. Their pairing brings such a vulnerability to the roles - it's refreshing and draws the viewer in.

I love the fact that Simon is so comfortable with his sexuality, yet he doesn’t pressure wilhelm to be the same. I think as well as what omar said, it seems like he has also known and been open about it for a much longer time which will help him feel more comfortable with it

I like how Edvin and Omar in real life are like their exact characters here... Omar is like the cool chill guy, while Edvin is the shy, awkward and tension-filled guy. And the stares he does here are the exact same he does on the show.

I love their characters so much.... Simon is like a mature character while Wilhelm is more like an innocent baby..I love his baby gestures like biting his nails, always chewing something... They are such a perfect match 💕
They're soooo talented. Like, Edvin is only 18 and for Omar this is his first acting experience(that i know of) and he was so GOOD.Everything felt real and intimate, they did awesome. I can't count the amount of times i watched their scenes(no seriously, i can't), it's not healthy.It's been 4 days and all i can think about are still them

Simon says :" I don't want to be someone 's secret". In my opinion this is one of the strong line in all of the series.
I really felt in love with Wilhelm as a character. He is so kind, open, so simple, decent and mature, getting along with everyone, I would like to have such a good friend.

regardless of their ages or their sexuality, the fact they had such amazing chemistry I feel goes to show just how amazing talented they are; and the fact they are able to talk and joke about it all comfortably and how open they are about their experiences working on set and with each other also adds to how professional and dedicated they are to their craft. honestly, these two are gems and I wish them nothing but the best in their futures. love them! hoping netflix gives us that second season!!!
I think it also says a lot about the culture of the set, and shows that everyone on set is so respectful and professional, makes me love the show more!

one of the best things about this show is the fandom. Respectful and so sweet, not to mention insanely talented people. I love how we all respect their friendship and not ship them together irl. The casting for this show is superb!
The chemistry between Wilhelm and Simon is incredible, so much so that as a viewer you're constantly rooting for these two young adults. It's a pleasure to witness those precious scenes when they can actually be together and be themselves but then your heart breaks just as quickly when they are unjustly separated.
There better be some awards in the very near future that get attached to this show! Netflix should be proud! Well done!

Edvin's words resonate with me a lot. Not sure if this show made him "grow" or if he was this mature already but his thoughts and way of speaking is very comforting to me.
This show touched my heart, as a gay man. When I was growing up there was nothing like this on TV to support LGBTQ+ youth in acceptance/understanding oneself. Bravo Netflix, this pair has great chemistry on and off-screen, can't wait for more of them!

It's not often you feel sad when a show ends because you're going ot miss the characters so. The gentle intimacy the boys share. The integrity with which they behave in adverse circumstances. A stand out production that reminds us we can behave with dignity even when we might not be getting what we want. Thank you team!

''you shouldn't have to come out''' I totally agree with this statement. One of my favorite points in the series is; that neither Simon nor Wilhelm had to reveal their sexual identities. Even though the society we live in wants us to ''label'' ourselves, no one has to. While heterosexuals don't have to say "Hey, I'm straight", homosexuals feel like they have to ‘’come out’’. A few years ago, "coming out" videos exploded on TH-cam, as if ‘’coming out’’ was an obligation or as if you would be better accepted for doing it… Not everything has to be lived out in public or behind closed doors.
But It shouldn't matter if I'm gay or straight, our humanity should go beyond sexuality.
Why is it so important who has sex with whom when there is a goal to be a good person?
Simon reminded his father on a visit that he was gay, when he was trying to buy drinks for the party. So he had to have come out to him at least at some point. This of course was more a reaction from Simon to his father wondering about his earlier days and wanting to impress girls. I think in the rest of Simon's family it's just generally understood and they don't make a big deal out of it, as it should be.
I think there's a thin line there atm in our society. While in the ideal world no-one should have to come out and no-one's sexual orientation should be assumed, maybe the need for coming out currently is due to the default hetero assumption. And the way I like to think about it is that with enough representation and "coming outs" people will stop automatically assume someone is hetero and the need for coming out will disappear. But I could be wrong ofc.
@@anaiv8818 Well, people can have different opinions and of course that is totally okay, but I think while it is very important for people to come out who may feel ostracised, or who maybe live in countries where someone's sexuality is still a big deal, we also need to normalise not having to declare yourself a certain sexuality or label, for us to be able to take futher steps into the future as societies that actually advance. Edvin said that very eloquently, and while I'm quite a few years older, this is exactly what my friends and I were thinking at exactly the same age. We need to get past labels eventually. :)

And also the scene when they are watching the movie and their finger tips meet is everything to me! Such intimacy and affection I melted watching it.

i love these deep talks because we can go further in the history of each character and we can understand them better, also i love this atmosphere that omar and edvin creates because we can see how well they get along and we can realize how smart and professional they both are

I swear if Netflix doesn’t renew this show I don’t know what I’m going to do. Lately they’ve been cancelling a lot of shows with lgbtq+ representation. Shows like atypical and grand army are being cancelled for bullshit demeaning shows such as kissing booth 🤮
