  • Hey, everyone! I decided to make a quick video about the Orange Geemer because one of my viewers asked about it. Plus, the Orange Geemer is awesome. And weird.
The Orange Geemer is referred to as “HZOOMER” in the game’s code (enemy ID - DC3F). The Metal Geemer is “MZOOMER” (enemy ID - DD3F) and the regular Geemer is “ZOOMER” (enemy ID - DCFF).
I have no idea why the Orange Geemer’s “true” palette in the game’s code is just a copy of the platform enemy’s (Kamer - enemy ID D83F), but I found it interesting. I also have no idea why this enemy was created (and put here) in the first place, but I love it. Would have to ask Deer Force. :)
The “borrowing”, so to speak, of other enemies’ palettes is common in Super Metroid. For example, Cacatacs are green by default. The red/orange ones in Norfair just borrow the Nova/Sova’s palette, and the purple-ish ones in Maridia borrow the Zoa’s palette. But they’re otherwise the exact same enemy. There are many other examples, like the red fish in Maridia or the green-ish crabs in Crateria.
If you want to restore the Orange Geemer’s “true” palette, just enter this cheat code:

Yet again, THANK YOU to PJ Boy and everyone else that’s contributed to disassembly over the years. I couldn’t have figured this stuff out without your hard work, expertise, and willingness to share your findings with others. :)
Thanks for watching, everyone! Cheers. :)
