    You all had great questions about Reflecs, so I made another quick (unlisted) video to answer some of them: th-cam.com/video/EUSLrAgObcU/w-d-xo.html.
    In summary:
    - Hyper Beam behaves like any other beam, except it deals only 450 damage to suitless Samus instead of the 1,000 damage it deals to most other enemies.
    - Bombs and Power Bombs do nothing.
    - Glitched beams don't do much other than make some weird colors (didn't show this in the video, cause it's kinda boring).
    - I still don't understand what's going on with Ice + Wave + Plasma.

    IIRC, this was used in Super Metroid Redesign. I really don't know why they made such an interesting puzzle element and then not use it. The theory I can always read online is that catching a reflected Charged Plasma Ice Wave beam could absolutely destroy Samus accidentally.

      Yeah, a reflected charged Ice+Wave+Plasma shot is pretty devastating lol... I wish Reflecs made it into the final game, but I can also understand why they didn't...

      having these would have also made way more evident the glitchyness that is having a beam on screen then pausing + changing beams

      I think it was used in Super Metroid Ascent as well, probably my favorite hack

    Theories for why uncharged ice+wave+plasma deals no damage to suitless Samus:
    1) The suitless+max beam combination was deemed too unlikely to bother handling.
    2) Samus is immune to Ice's freezing and stops plasma's normal mob traversal.
    Both together may short-circuit normal damage code, or the code may handle only one special case.
    3) Lookup table out of bounds.
    If there is special code for damage to Samus, Reflec was abandoned mid-development, and only then any of Ice/Wave/Plasma was added, it stands to reason they would not bother/think to add corresponding damage.

    This game has so much unused content... These could've been used for so many puzzles... But we can only pray to MercurySteams at this point. Thanks for providing us with this video😄👍🏻

    I saw these some time ago but had kinda forgotten. It's a little sad we didn't get any reflect puzzles in SM after it was all said and done. Neat stuff per usual!

    Very glad this isn't a prank, this is a very interesting enemy! I wonder why they scrapped it, seems like they didn't intend for it to reflect both ways. If I ever try to do something with Metroid I definitely want to include these.

    Huh. Ice doesn't usually kill things like that. It would be cool if Samus could be frozen by reflected shots.

    I wonder if they got as far as making Samus immune to her own weapons with the power suit, but dropped the Reflect enemy before adding that property to the other suits.
    It's interesting to see how much damage Samus takes from her own weapons. Looks like the standard 75% reduction for Grav suit is still in effect.

      Hey, TarThoron! Yeah, Varia/Gravity seem to have the normal 50%/75% damage reduction. I like your theory, but check out my pinned comment, if you have a minute... it seems to be uncharged ice+wave+plasma specifically that deals 0 damage to suitless Samus. Even the pea shooter damages her... I don't understand it. This might be an ED question lol.

    I saw them in the metroid redesign if I remember correctly, I've always thought it was a fan made enemy, not a scraped one from the development, I guess you learn something new everyday, thanks for another neat video goldenchorizo.

    This could have been a tactically interesting enemy. I kinda wish you would have shown how or even if they interact with diagonal shots (nvm, this one was answered in the unlisted). Thanks for sharing this!

    These enemies along with Bangs could have been used in Tourian instead of Rinkas, at least in certain areas.

    Back in Metroid Prime 2, when I was "dicking around" to use polite terminology, I would often go to this one room which had a black door and a white door facing eachother (Main Dynamo Chamber, the one in SancFort with the big purple sphere), and just... shoot the doors, and watch as Samus's beams reflected between them.
    Sadly, I don't think this happens with any other door colors, so you can't get a Dark/Light Beam shot bouncing back and forth.

    I can certainly see why these were removed. With the inconsistent damagevalues(0 for that combo on suitless, lol), it reflecting from the wrong side of the sprite and the suspended beam not working correctly because the beampattern is dependant on the shot beam, while the projectile is dependant on the equipped beam...it very clearly is both unfinished(Game already came out pretty late, so yeet), aswell as doesn't fit the limitations of how they programmed the memory-related part of the game.

    Is it possible to use the Chainsaw Beam or Space/Time Beam or Murder Beam on the Reflec and get it to move back and forth? And does the same effect happen with the Hyper Beam as well?

      Hey, Tetrafuse! Check out my pinned comment. In short, the glitched beams are pretty boring in this case. They can make some fun colors, but that's about it. And Hyper Beam behaves essentially the same as any other beam.

    I wonder what would happen if you shoot a beam into parallel reflect enemies and then turn on the murder beam. What would happen to the beam in midair?

      Hey, thank you for watching and commenting, WMM! They appear in some ROM hacks of Super Metroid, and I'd read about them before as well (for example, here: tcrf.net/Super_Metroid#Reflec). To replicate what's seen in this video, use the 9 "cheat codes" in my video description. I used PJBoy's Bank Logs (which he was kind enough to make public) to figure out the codes. :)

      Reflecs are unique in that they also attempt to flip bombs if you try to bomb one. This results in a crash. Someone I believe recently had a patch that actually corrects this behavior so you can bomb reflecs. There's quite a few other unused enemies in the game as well.

      With specific inputs and timing, you can select both at the same time. The result is glitches like the murder beam, since memory limitations prevent a non-broken combination of the two from happening.

    WHY weren't these implemented?! These would've made an already epic game even more awesome. I could think of some spots where these would've made the game more interesting. Both in the helpful direction as well as increased challenge.
    Well...we have the ROMhack community. All's well that ends well.
